Otherworld Advance Team-Chapter 63 - 59 The Trap
63: Chapter 59: The Trap
63 -59: The Trap
As Luo’er had planned, if this Dunuo led them into a trap, the deployed sniper team would cover their retreat.
Meanwhile, he brought Ziang, a close combat expert, hoping that if they were ambushed, he could deal with the surrounding enemies quickly.
After all, in such otherworldly city battles, swords were usually more effective than guns.
Once the arrangements were completed, Luo’er asked Tangmo to send a magical messenger to the frontline command, requesting funding support.
Soon they received a reply: a collaborative Blaiqi merchant corporation had taken instructions from their headquarters.
Luo’er could collect the necessary funds for their action.
This intelligence network, relying on the Blaiqi commercial espionage web, had been set up by headquarters over ten years.
In order to establish it, the command spent a large sum and granted many benefits to the Blaiqi people.
In return, they gained much information about the Otherworld, including military and political trends in various Otherworld countries.
The next morning, Baiyue arrived early at the boys’ room.
Ziang kicked the sleeping Hu Daoke awake.
The latter, bad-tempered, left with Baiyue while Luo’er went early to collect the necessary funds from the merchant corporation.
200 gold coins was a hefty sum.
Luo’er fit it into a bag and together with Ziang began preparing the necessary weapons.
In city warfare, rifles were a poor choice.
Besides the limitation by the terrain, more importantly, if patrolmen discovered them using weapons unlawfully in the city, there would be serious consequences.
Therefore, after careful consideration, Luo’er decided to bring Tangmo’s magic crystal pistol.
This powerful pistol could blast an enemy to pieces at close range.
Ziang reluctantly carried his revolver, while checking his long and throwing knives, ensuring that they would be ready in case of an emergency.
By noon, the sniper team had returned to the inn.
Hu Daoke reported their reconnaissance to Luo’er.
According to their inspection, there were more than these five high points in the bar’s neighborhood, and three of the highpoints marked by Ziang were confirmed to be unusable.
They revised five high points as potential sniper spots, and assigned each a number.
These five sniper spots encompassed a kilometer radius around the bar.
As long as they adjusted the corresponding sniper spots based on Luo’er’s movements, they could provide sniper support.
After this preparation, in the afternoon Luo’er and Ziang officially set off with the sniper team – consisting of Baiyue and Hu Daoke – following them.
If Luo’er needed to change locations, the team would find appropriate high ground for a sniper spot to cover them.
Both of them arrived at the entrance of the bar, they glanced at each other.
They wore ragged cloaks to cover their weapons.
Ziang scoped out their surroundings, confirmed there was no danger, and secretly made a gesture to the sniper team not far away.
“Let’s go!” After Ziang finished communicating with the sniper team, Luo’er called for them to move.
The two entered the dilapidated bar, which was not crowded as per usual.
The air was filled with a sour stink of alcohol and a strong odor of body sweat.
Ziang gagged once he entered the door.
Seeing his reaction, Luo’er suggested he wear a scarf over his face.
Dunuo still sat in the same spot, drinking alone, but today he had switched to an Earth-made dark beer.
This beer, expensive due to it being imported from Earth, gave away that Dunuo was not just an ordinary drunkard.
“Mr.
Dunuo, nice to see you!” When the two approached Dunuo, Luo’er respectfully inclined his head and said.
“Where’s the money?” Dunuo asked, sleepily glancing at Luo’er as he belched.
“Here!” Luo’er pulled a bulging purse filled with a hundred or so Otland gold coins from under his cloak.
Dunuo grinned, reaching out to get the money bag, but Luo’er quickly pulled it back.
“As you promised, you’ll lead us to the Assassins Union!” Luo’er said calmly.
Dunuo retracted his hand, gulped down the remaining beer from his cup, and painfully rose from his seat.
He turned slowly, fixing his gaze on Ziang who stood by Luo’er’s side.
“Who’s this guy?” Dunuo pointed to Ziang and asked.
“You don’t need to worry about that.
Is who he is that important?” Luo’er responded indifferently.
“Of course, who knows what he’s up to.
Not just anyone can meet the Assassins Union!” Dunuo retorted stubbornly.
“He is my companion.” Luo’er briefly introduced.
Dunuo scanned Ziang from head to toe.
He seemed like an Aud person of mixed blood, which was not uncommon in a multi-ethnic city like Holy Heart City, so Dunuo harbored no suspicions.
“Let’s go!”
Dunuo called out, lazily heading towards the door.
The two followed him out of the bar and onto the street.
Following Dunuo over several crossroads, Ziang secretly signaled the sniper team following them to change positions.
Luo’er kept an eye on the surrounding landmarks to determine their current location. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
Based on the map information imprinted in his brain, Luo’er was sure they were moving northward, towards a more chaotic slum.
In the slum area, there was a prominent high point, a tower.
From up there, one could overlook the entire slum, which the sniper team had marked as the fourth sniper point.
The three of them wound their way deeper into the alley.
This made Cheng Ziang and Luo’er somewhat nervous, but before they left the street, Cheng Ziang had already signaled the sniper team to move to the fourth sniper point.
All the way, Luo’er kept looking back at the distant tower to make sure they were always within the range of the sniper point.
Turning a corner, Dunuo halted.
The two men sensed something was wrong.
In front of them, the route was blocked by piles of junk.
Suddenly, the rustling sounds came from behind.
They noticed a few sturdy men that had appeared around them.
Dunuo turned around, his face wearing a despicable grin, revealing his black and yellow teeth.
Luo’er and Cheng Ziang glanced around without showing any signs of panic.
Luo’er looked up at the distant tower: they were directly under its view.
If nothing unexpected had happened to the sniper team, they should have their guns set up by now, so Luo’er didn’t feel anxious.
“Mr.
Dunuo, what do you mean by this?” Luo’er asked calmly.
“A mere elf hybrid like you wants to find the Assassin’s Alliance.
Hand over all the money you have, and I might spare you.” Dunuo sneered disdainfully.
“Do you really know where the Assassin’s Alliance is?” Luo’er asked, no longer using honorifics in response to Dunuo’s insult.
“What if I do?” Dunuo answered confidently.
“Are you always so arrogant?” Luo’er and Cheng Ziang stood back to back, staring at the brawny men closing in.
“Just hand over everything you have, and you will save yourself a beating,” Dunuo threatened.
The two exchanged a glance before Luo’er sighed and made a hand signal.
“If you take us to the Assassin’s Alliance now, I will pretend that none of this happened,” Luo’er warned one last time.
“You’re a real hybrid, still putting on a stubborn face,” Dunuo replied with a vicious smile.
At this moment, Baiyue and Hu Daoke of the sniper team had set up their sniper rifles on the tower.
To avoid causing a disturbance with gunshots, Baiyue had attached a silencer and loaded a subsonic bullet.
“Luo’er is signalling!” said Hu Daoke, who was peering through the binoculars.
Baiyue aimed at Luo’er, who made a signal for a limited attack.
She then shifted her aim to a brawny man closest to Luo’er but did not fire.
Although Hu Daoke was the spotter, he was also somewhat of a team leader for the sniper team.
Without his order, Baiyue could not fire at will.
“Pick your target, limited attack!” Hu Daoke gave the order as he observed the situation.
Baiyue remained quiet as she slowly pulled the trigger.
There was a dull sound at the rifle’s muzzle, but due to the silencer and subsonic bullet, the sound wasn’t loud and was within an acceptable level.
One of the brawny men at Luo’er’s side suddenly fell to the ground, crying out in pain.
Everyone looked to see his calf covered in blood, with a deep hole in it.
They were all startled, not knowing what had happened.
Luo’er continued giving signals, and another brawny man screamed as he fell, a similar hole in his leg.
The others retreated a step in fear, clueless about what Luo’er had done.
“Magic?” Dunuo was startled and instinctively took a step back.
Although Dunuo couldn’t perform magic, he had received brief magical training and could sense the magical fluctuations in the air.
However, when the two men fell, he didn’t sense any magical fluctuations around.
Meanwhile, in countries dominated by the Church of Light, only nobles were allowed to learn magic.
Regardless of a commoner’s aptitude for magic, they weren’t qualified to learn it.
Luo’er was a half-breed Wood Elf, who would never be accepted by the Wood Elf Kingdom.
If he knew magic, then he could possibly be the offspring of a Wood Elf and a human noble.
Even though elf hybrids were generally discriminated against in the Otherworld, those born to elves and nobles were still accepted by the noble class, and these were individuals they could never afford to offend.
Dunuo looked at Luo’er in terror, and the desire to survive drove him to abandon his companions and run clumsily in the other direction.
