“You filthy witch!
Where did you get your powers from, huh?!
No Undeviginti has dominion over red sand!” to say that the human prisoner was a little bit feisty would be a vast understatement, if he was not tied up to a pillar, he would be jumping around like a rabbit fighting an eagle, it was rather impressive how much he was managing to move around at all in fact, certainly spoke to his state of mind as he was leaving rather dire abrasions over his bare body.
Naturally, he was only provided with the bare minimum, just in case he figured out how to escape, they wouldn’t want to provide him with enough fabric to create a makeshift shield around one of his arms.
Ir’Houwl wasn’t certain how effective that was, but she had heard that some undeads were practiced rapier skills that used a sort of cloak as a secondary weapon, and in any case, a good thickness of fabric was much better at stopping blades than one might expect.
“Answer me!
Who do you serve, you vile strumpet!-” the living’s head was thrown to the side, the whiplash was nearly enough to knock him unconscious on the spot.
“Be careful what your mouth says, living, you’re talking to a lord” spoke the doctor, who wasn’t even the one who had struck, but another undead further away who had thrown his buckler right at the prisoner’s chin.
“Do avoid breaking his jaw, we need him to be capable of speech” with a flick of one finger, the shield and given back to the undead with a thin tendril of red sand, whilst the doctor dusted his shoulder in spite of having done nothing, before speaking again.
“Now answer, are you a servant of Illusory Undeviginti?”
The living stayed silent, spitting out saliva mixed with blood on the ground.
“I am, Illusory Undeviginti is the brightest out of all”
“Oh, that’s funny”
“Silence orc!
You are a lesser species”
“Prisoners, stop bickering like two teenage living girls, if you don’t have anything of substance to add, you should consider silence” the chieftain quieted down.
“Alright then, Undeviginti refers to the sun which does not move, correct?” continued the undead.
“Of course, where do you even come from to not know that?” the man, whose arms were still missing, gave a dirty look toward the undead, clearly meaning that he thought that he was conversing with absolute ignorants.
“How many of them are there?” ignoring the captive’s expression, the doctor spun his scalpel on his bony hand.
“Currently, there are five”
“Currently?
Am I to understand that this could change?
Could one disappear, or more manifest?”
“As far as I am aware, they can not disappear, even Sanguine Undeviginti, despite having very few worshippers who are spread out and regularly hunted down, continues to exist, at worse, the time during which it reigns is simply shortened, but it still governs the same power as it always did” if it was possible, the doctor would have squinted his eyes at the living, finding him suddenly much too talkative, but he saw no signs of deception, and there didn’t seem to any presence of the pink vapour anywhere that might mess with his perception.
“I see, keep going”
The living sighed.
“I guess I’ll have to recite the basics to you, uneducated in the divine!”
“In the beginning, there was only one Undeviginti and the roaming suns, that would be Prime Undeviginti, the first of them all”
“Its light is resplendent and can heat up anything, causing fires upon the air and forcing sand into glass, and can even create copies of itself, as much as fifty, if the ancient texts are to be trusted, which can cause rays of destruction when their sunlight overlap”
“Prime Undeviginti is the first, and all of the other where born from it, copies of itself that gain their own independence” freewebnøvel.coɱ
“There was Watchful Undeviginti, who was tired of the murderous heat cast upon those below, it took pity upon us dwellers of the desert and became pale blue, during its time as sovereign, the temperature drops sharply, freeing us momentarily from the heat… And with its eyes, it watches upon us”
An undead near Ir’Houwl was noting everything down as the living spoke, whilst the doctor simply nodded along, encouraging the captive to keep on speaking.
“Afterward, in opposition to the kindness of the watchful one, Sanguine Undeviginti appeared, the sun of the living dead, seizing control of the skeletal remains buried deep within the desert to lay assault upon the cities and towns of us humans”
“It’s true that the creatures mostly ignore us if we don’t attack them…” sheepishly added the orc chieftain.
The human snorted.
“Naturally, your kind is so foul that even this heretical sun wants nothing to do do with you”
“Keep on with speaking” the bird-headed undead placed the scalpel’s gold blade against the living’s temple.
“…Then there is Illusory Undeviginti, it tends to take on the appearance of Prime Undeviginti and mimic it, but as you might have noticed, its true ability is in the creation of incredible mirages and illusions through sunlight”
“Illusory Undeviginti is neither virtuous nor evil, it simply does thing as it pleases, just like us humans, which is why it is the greatest of all”
The living paused and exhaled heavily.
The orc chieftain looked at him with a bored expression, not too impressed with the theatrics and building of tension.
‘This idiot is missing both arms and still acts like he isn’t helpless, well, at least he understands my tongue… Wait, does that mean that the newcomers all do and just pretend to not have a clue what I am saying?!’
“Cleansing Undeviginti is the youngest of them, it is said to have first appeared a hundred years ago, during its short and rare time as sovereign, the desert will be inundated by an incandescent white light, the heat will rise incredibly high, the air will ignite like never before, and it will obliterate anything or anything that dares to move too quickly where it light can reach, if one isn’t crawling when under its sunlight, they will simply be erased” he spoke with a shudder, there was no Undeviginti that was more feared than this one, the antics of Sanguine Undeviginti could be dealt with.
Cleansing Undeviginti however was simply tyrannical, even its mad followers would be destroyed if they dared to move too quickly, it made no exceptions for anyone, which was why those who swore allegiance to the incandescent sun believed that eradication was the answer to all problems, all could be solved by simply slaughtering.
“Interesting… This Undeviginti would make a fine addition to the ranks of our empire”
