Chapter 213 - Pokemon: I Transmigrated Twice [213]

Two boys from Pallet Town in Kanto had just received their starter Pokémon and set off from their hometown.

At first, no one paid any attention to this event.

Compared to other towns, Pallet Town, aside from the title "Hometown of Professor Oak," had nothing particularly special about it.

Moreover, due to Stephen's influence, Professor Oak, who should have been the leading authority in Pokémon research, was relegated to second place.

So, their journey naturally didn't attract much attention.

But within just two months, these two had stirred up quite a storm among the Gym Leaders of the Indigo League.

Brock from Pewter Gym and the three sisters from Cerulean Gym all commented in their group that these two boys from Pallet Town were simply monsters.

They had defeated the main teams of these Gyms with overwhelming force.

Other Gym Leaders in the Indigo League, upon seeing these comments, all scoffed and laughed.

Who didn't know Pewter and Cerulean Gyms were there to pad the numbers in Kanto?

Most trainers who challenged those Gyms got free badges.

These so-called strong new trainers—how strong could they be?

...

Half a month later.

Lt. Surge commented in the group: "Are those two really rookies? They're just like Leon was back in the day!"

When even Lt. Surge said that, the elite Gym Leaders realized these two kids might not be so simple after all.

Who is Leon?

A monster who, within a year, became unbeatable throughout Galar and claimed the title of Champion.

Although the reigning Champion Peony was already considering retirement and may have held back in the final battle, it was still terrifying.

And yet, Lt. Surge compared these two rookies to Leon.

Looks like Kanto produced two extraordinary newcomers this time.

But Giovanni, who always appreciated talent, didn't pay much attention to this.

After learning from Stephen that Pryce had kidnapped many children as his minions, Giovanni concluded that it was that old bastard who'd kidnapped his son back then.

But the problem was, the old guy was dead.

The children he'd kidnapped had probably all scattered.

If they were older, maybe they could find their way home.

But Silver was only two years old when he was taken—barely able to speak. How could he possibly return by himself?

So Giovanni had to find a way on his own.

But as Stephen had said, children are a parent's soft spot.

Giovanni wanted as few people as possible to know about this.

So, he wasn't about to use Team Rocket's network to look for his son.

Instead, he pinned his hopes on legendary Pokémon.

Just like Pryce spent decades trying to catch Celebi to go back in time, Giovanni hoped to use a legendary Pokémon's power to find his son.

"A Pokémon that can do that... as far as I know, only Dialga has that power, right?" Stephen mused during a video call after hearing Giovanni's idea.

In the original story, Giovanni found Silver using Deoxys's psychic powers, similar to Hermit Purple's divination.

But Deoxys hadn't been discovered by the Pokémon world yet, so Stephen didn't mention it to Giovanni.

Besides, even if he did, neither of them could just go to space to catch it.

So, the only one with the power was the God of Time, Dialga.

Have Dialga open a time tunnel to see where Silver went after Pryce died.

But if Dialga knew about this, it would probably have a mental breakdown.

"Ever since Sheena's abilities were exposed, the Sinnoh League has been keeping a close eye on her. It's not easy to kidnap her," Stephen said.

Giovani was considering copying Pyce's approach from six months ago: kidnap Sheena and force her to summon the God of Time.

But this would be much harder now.

After learning about Sheena's powers, the Sinnoh League guarded her as strictly as the Jewel of Life.

Except when sleeping or in the bathroom, she was always accompanied by at least one Sinnoh Elite Four member.

After all, she could summon Sinnoh's three dragons.

"Uncle, I think you should just use Team Rocket's network to find Silver," Stephen suggested.

Even for the largest criminal organization controlling Kanto and Johto, finding a child missing for more than five years would be tough.

But it was still easier than forcing Dialga.

Besides, with Pryce dead, Green and Silver wouldn't have to hide their identities like in the original.

It shouldn't take too long to find him.

Giovanni was about to respond when his office phone rang.

He didn't avoid Stephen and pressed the speaker.

Matori's voice came through: "Giovanni-sama, Sird requests an audience."

No one was allowed to listen in on Giovanni's conversations with Stephen, not even his close aide and secretary, Matori.

Giovanni glanced at Stephen, saw him nod, and said, "Let her in."

Soon, Sird entered, wearing the silver Team Rocket uniform exclusive to the Beasts, and bowed to Giovanni in the boss's chair and Stephen on the projection screen.

"Sakaki-sama, My King."

"What is it, Sird? Didn't I tell Matori I didn't want to see anyone today?" Giovanni said irritably.

"My apologies, Giovanni-sama. This matter is of great importance."

Sird reported: "The research department has reported that Dark Mewtwo's condition is now optimal. The Dark Mewtwo Project is complete."

This was the only good news Giovanni had heard since the Lily of the Valley Island incident.

"So, Blaine and Fuji are about to leave Team Rocket," Stephen pointed out.

This had been discussed a year ago: once the Mewtwo project was done, they'd retire.

Reminded by Stephen, Giovanni nodded and ordered on the phone:

"Matori, notify all executives who know about Blaine and Fuji: neither name is to be mentioned again, internally or externally. Act as if they were never part of Team Rocket."

A clean break—never force people to stay.

As Stephen had told Cynthia months before, Team Rocket had done countless bad things, but their treatment of people was genuinely good.

Later, Team Rocket never bothered Blaine again, and Blaine never leaked information about Team Rocket to the League. It was a model of an amicable split.

"Such vision..." Even Sird couldn't help but sigh inwardly.

"Uncle, let's get back to the topic. I still think you should just deploy Team Rocket's network to find Silver," Stephen said.

Giovanni raised an eyebrow and glared at Sird.

Sird quickly bowed lower.

Stephen laughed: "Don't worry, Sird won't leak anything. When we returned from Lily of the Valley Island, Sird had already guessed. If she wanted to use this information, she wouldn't have waited until now."

Sird, whether genuinely or pretending, said fearfully: "Thank you, my King, for your understanding."

Giovanni withdrew his murderous glare and, after a while, sighed: "I've said before, the next Team Rocket boss will be the strongest. Now, many in management already suspect Silver exists. If this is confirmed..."

Giovanni's concerns were valid.

Currently, management only suspects Giovanni has a child. If confirmed, it could spark a rebellion.

"I think you're overcomplicating things, Uncle," Stephen suddenly said.

"Oh?" Giovanni looked at Stephen again. "What do you mean, Stephen-kun?"

"You're only worried about a few things. First, if Silver's existence is confirmed, some might rebel," Stephen explained. "Easy fix. If there's a rebellion, just crush it. Honestly, even without me, with Dark Mewtwo, how many in the world could stop you?"

Giovanni agreed but frowned again: "It's not rebellion I'm worried about. Mainly... a leader can't go back on his word."

The thought of being seen as untrustworthy by subordinates worried Giovanni the most.

He felt somewhat guilty.

Because he had once personally said, "The strongest will inherit the position." Now that he had a son, he wanted to pass it on to him.

Giovanni was a good boss, but also human.

Given the chance, of course, he wanted his son to succeed him.

Now over forty, Giovanni's final wish in life was for Team Rocket to become the undisputed ruler of the underworld.

Then Stephen would be king, Silver the boss, and two emperors ruling together.

He would serve as the power behind the scenes, supporting them and enjoying a perfect old age.

But this would break his original promise.

A leader who breaks his word—who would follow him?

"Uncle, you're underestimating Silver," Stephen laughed. "I've never met him, but he's your son. How bad could he be?"

Though not as freakish as Red or Blue in the original, Silver's talents were champion-level.

Maybe not on par with Lance or Leon, but with Giovanni's bloodline, he could match Steven or Cynthia.

"If I had to guess, the only one who could threaten Silver's succession would be Sird," Stephen laughed. "How about it, Sird, do you want to take over Uncle Giovanni's job?"

If Silver developed normally and reached a champion level, only Sird could match him in the organization.

"I wouldn't dare!" Sird quickly knelt on one knee. "If that day comes, I'll assist the King and Young Master Silver with all my strength."

Sird truly had no interest in the boss's position.

"...So, according to you, just come clean?" Giovanni squinted.

"Exactly," Stephen said. "Let the rebels rebel, and use this as a chance to flush out all disloyalty at once."

Giovanni tapped his desk with his finger, barely interested in petting his cat.

As he was about to agree, Sird suddenly spoke:

"Giovanni-sama, my King, why not let me handle this matter completely?"

"Hmm?"*2x

Stephen and Giovanni looked at Sird together.

...

...

Stephen left the room and saw three game-addict Pokémon shouting in the living room.

Zoroark grumbled: [I told you, this mission was capture, not hunt! Hoopa, why'd you kill it?]

Hoopa looked guilty: [Sorry, I didn't read the mission properly.]

Mew comforted: [It's fine, just use your Hunting Flute to help me next time.]

Zoroark snapped: [You're no better! How many times did you cart the last hunt? If you can't play Great Sword, don't!]

Since Hoopa moved to Alola with Meray, the game-addict group grew stronger.

But after Hoopa moved, Stephen noticed that criminal organizations across the regions grew much quieter.

Not surprising.

Everyone now knew that with Hoopa's ability to open portals anywhere, if a criminal caused trouble, Hoopa could just open a portal and the Alola League would send Bewear to get you.

Who dared mess around now?

But it's not like Team Magma, Team Aqua, Galactic, and those other groups would give up their goals. Stephen didn't think so.

Those leaders and members all had unhealthy obsessions with their abstract ambitions.

Most likely, they were planning something big.

...

Meanwhile, after getting permission from Giovanni and Stephen, Sird fully took over the [Young Master Silver Search Operation].

By the way, Sird named the operation herself.

After taking on the mission, the first thing she did was contact every Team Rocket executive in Kanto and Johto, telling them to look out for a red-haired boy about seven years old during missions.

Once this order went out, all the executives—beasts, generals, everyone—were shocked.

They had heard rumors, but this order confirmed their boss truly had a son!

As expected, panic spread through Team Rocket as Giovanni predicted.

...

At Johto's Cliff Cave, Team Rocket's Johto base—

"What kind of joke is this!?"

As one of the Beasts and a Johto base leader, Carr raged:

"The latest mission is to help the Boss find his son? Are you kidding me?!"

The surrounding Johto Team Rocket members froze, not daring to breathe.

"Do you have a problem, Carr?"

That distinctive eunuch voice sounded behind him. Carr turned, furious, to see Sird, hands behind her back, walking in with Orm.

"Sird, how can you stay so calm?" Carr demanded.

"I'm more curious why you're so angry," Sird smirked. "Team Rocket belongs to Boss Giovanni. He can do what he wants. Are you going to oppose him?"

"He said himself! The next boss would be the strongest member. That's why I've been risking my life!" Carr shouted. "Now what? Bring back his son so he can take over?!"

"..."

A short silence, then Sird said calmly, "If that's the Boss' will, so be it. What about you, Orm?"

"I have no opinion," Orm replied simply.

He knew his place—just a worker. Whoever's boss, as long as the pay is good.

"Damn! You two are hopeless!" Carr cursed.

"Are you planning a rebellion, Carr?" Saki's eyes narrowed. "Defy the Boss and the King?"

When Saki said "Boss," Carr was only wary.

But when she said "King," he was deeply terrified.

The other Johto members buried their heads, not daring to look up.

That man's deterrence in Team Rocket was at least as high as Boss Giovanni's!

Carr gritted his teeth: "If Boss Giovanni wants to make his son the new boss... the King has no objection?"

"Heh, didn't know you were short both in height and brains, Carr," Saki laughed. "To the King, it doesn't matter who's boss. The King's status is supreme; the boss doesn't threaten him."

Carr frowned, "So he won't get involved?"

"Who knows? Who can guess the King's mind?" Sird looked to the sky, then back at Carr. "At least for now, the King has no intention to interfere. For those unhappy with Boss Giovanni, that's probably good news."

Carr frowned suspiciously at Sird, "Why are you telling me this?"

He wasn't as sharp as Sird, but he wasn't an idiot.

Sird was hinting—no, openly telling him—that "the King won't intervene, so go ahead and rebel."

"Boss Giovanni's health is failing," Sird said shockingly, making Carr's face change.

Even many base members looked at each other in shock.

But Sird's expression remained calm, "This illness can't be cured by current human medicine—only legendary Pokémon's power."

"Boss Giovanni can't travel far now; only the King can help him catch legendary Pokémon to cure him, like Ho-Oh or Xerneas."

"But even for the King, catching a legendary isn't easy—it's a hassle to find them."

"Boss Giovanni is anxious to find his son, to establish an heir. But the King has no interest in a seven-year-old kid, and he's worried about Team Rocket's future. Honestly, rather than letting some random kid inherit, it's better to pick a capable current executive."

Sird shrugged.
