Pretending to Cultivate in Kindergarten-Chapter 286: Jingshi Loses Her Temper
After hailing a cab, Lin Zhengran sat in the backseat scrolling through the latest news about Zhengshi Company.
It had been about ten days since Jiang Jingshi was discharged from the hospital.
The name “Daughter of Angels – Jiang Jingshi” was still trending, with no sign of slowing down.
Any post you clicked on was filled with amazed and excited comments.
Netizen A: “This whole thing is everywhere! The hype is insane. And if it’s true—holy sh*t, that’s incredible!”
Netizen B: “President Jiang from Zhengshi is seriously stunning! I was lucky enough to see her once in person—her skin, her aura—she’s honestly out of this world! If she’s an angel, I believe it. Doesn’t matter if you do—I’m all in.”
Netizen C: “I heard resumes have been pouring into Zhengshi Company lately. Their benefits sound amazing. I’m tempted to apply too. I wanna be part of the Angel Lady’s team! L('ω')┘三└('ω')」”
Netizen D: “Healing a terminal illness on her own? That’s next-level. Does our Angel Lady have a boyfriend yet? What kind of guy could even be worthy? I’m so jealous of whoever gets to be with her.”
The comments came in all shapes and sizes. Lin Zhengran only gave them a quick skim before swiping them away.
Though he hadn’t been paying much attention to the company’s financial reports lately, this level of hype clearly meant the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
【After returning from the summer resort with Fairy He, Miss Jiang, and the Demonic Cult Witch, you found out that a senior from Fairy He’s sect had a lingering illness, which you healed with a pill.】
【Grateful for your help, the senior now sings your praises and hopes Fellow Daoist Lin can visit their sect personally next time—they’ll be sure to treat you with the utmost respect.】
【Meanwhile, back in the Imperial City, the Empress has made tremendous progress in her cultivation since your departure. Not only has she recovered to peak strength under your care, but her power has recently climbed even higher.】
【Thanks to these events and the feedback from your contract bonds, your Spiritual Energy Level has increased once again.】
【Your current level is now 73.】
Lin Zhengran felt the subtle enhancements that came with the level-up. He was surprised—why did it happen so quickly this time?
He had just leveled up twice while goofing around in Lin Mountain, and only a few days had passed since then.
Usually, based on how the system worked, the higher you climbed, the slower your cultivation progress should become.
Could it be because of the contract with Jingshi?
After all, as long as someone he had a contract with improved, he’d receive triple the feedback. That would explain it.
Compared to those three always playing around with him lately, Jingshi really had been focusing on cultivation.
The cab pulled up to the Zhengshi Company building not long after.
Staring up at the seven-story building, Lin Zhengran couldn’t help thinking how rarely he came here.
This time, the security guards finally recognized him.
The one on duty straightened up the moment he saw him, and the one inside the booth quickly stepped out.
That young security guard from before—Jiang Ming—actually greeted him first this time. “Good morning, President Lin!”
Lin Zhengran smiled and nodded. “Good morning,” he replied, brushing past them.
Once he was out of earshot, a guard inside the booth whispered, “Holy sh*t, why’s President Lin here by himself today? Sister Pan didn’t come down to meet him?”
Jiang Ming said, “Should we tell Sister Pan? Doesn’t feel right letting him go up alone.”
Another guard chimed in, “Nah, better not stick our noses in this. You think we can just casually report stuff about the big boss? Besides, I heard President Jiang’s in a really bad mood today. Word is, one of our department heads seriously screwed up. Bet that’s why he’s here.”
Lin Zhengran hadn’t told anyone he was coming today.
He walked into the building alone and headed for the elevator. Just as he was about to press the button for the seventh floor, his sharp ears picked something up.
Instead, he pressed the button for the third floor.
Zhengshi’s third floor housed two large meeting rooms—one for upper management, the other big enough for all office staff.
Following the sound, he stopped outside the executive meeting room, peering in through the blinds.
Inside, all the senior staff sat silently, heads down, clutching notebooks and pens.
And there was Jiang Jingshi—always so gentle around him—now sitting upright, her expression icy. Her long hair draped over her shoulders, and her eyes looked absolutely fierce.
Lin Zhengran had never seen her this terrifying before.
Her usually pleasant voice now carried a cold, pressing authority:
“What the hell happened today?! A mistake this massive and you just handed it straight to the client?! Have you even considered the consequences?!”
Her voice wasn’t loud, but her expression was so intense, Lin Zhengran blinked a few times in surprise.
Behind her, even her secretary Pan Lin was trembling as she frantically took notes. Her forehead looked like it was starting to sweat.
Lin Zhengran listened outside for a while, until Jingshi finally leaned back in her chair and said,
“Pan Lin, go get me a glass of water.”
Pan Lin flinched. “Yes, President Jiang!”
She grabbed a cup and stepped out, only to freeze mid-step as she saw Lin Zhengran.
Her fear immediately melted into relief like she’d just seen her savior. With a soft smile, she whispered,
“President Lin? What brings you here?”
Lin Zhengran nodded with a smile. “What’s going on?”
Pan Lin glanced back at the meeting room and lowered her voice again:
“One of the department heads accidentally sent an internal product file meant for one client to a different client. President Jiang completely lost it. No one in the office even dares to speak loudly today.”
Lin Zhengran asked, “Is the issue resolved?”
Pan Lin replied, “They’ve already got someone handling it. President Jiang drafted compensation terms for the affected company—it should be resolved soon.”
He gave a quiet “Mm” and looked back toward the meeting room. Inside, the atmosphere was so tense it felt like everyone was carrying a boulder on their back.
He couldn’t help asking, “Is Jingshi always this scary?”
Pan Lin chuckled nervously—no way she’d talk bad about her boss.
“I wouldn’t say scary. She’s just… serious when it comes to work. The public thinks she’s all soft and gentle, but that’s just the image. Of course, she’s definitely different with you. I’ve never seen her lose her temper when you’re around.”
Lin Zhengran thought back to their time at the pet shop—there had been a few slip-ups by employees, but every time, Jingshi had visibly held back because he was there.
Turns out she really did have a bit of a temper—must be the years of professional pressure.
Suddenly, a voice called out from inside the room:
“Pan Lin? What’s taking so long?”
Pan Lin nearly jumped out of her skin. “Coming! Just a moment!”
Jingshi turned around, wondering why it was taking so long to get a simple glass of water—only to spot a familiar figure outside.
She blinked, confused at first, then immediately stood up and rushed to the door.
The moment she saw the man outside, her whole demeanor changed. The stern ice queen vanished.
A blush spread across her cheeks, and her soft peach blossom eyes trembled with light.
She closed the door gently and spoke in the sweetest, softest voice, like a kitten:
“Zheng Zheng… you’re back?”
Pan Lin was dumbfounded. Yup, the moment President Lin shows up, she’s saved.
President Jiang in front of President Lin was a whole different person—unbelievably gentle.
