Rebirth: CEO's Sweetheart Reaches the Life Pinnacle!-Chapter 55 - 53 Permanent Residence in North City
Chapter 55: Chapter 53 Permanent Residence in North City
"I’m at Beijing Airport now, about to board the plane. I’ll arrive in North City at the usual time!" Leng Mochen’s magnetic voice came through the receiver.
"Brother Leng, how did you know I was bored all alone? You’re coming—this is perfect! I’ll have someone to keep me company! I’ll head to the airport now to wait for you!" Li Si quickly bypassed the ice sculptures and walked toward the street.
"You little rascal, it’s still so early! No need to rush over yet! Stay at home and relax—wait, judging by the sound, are you outside already?" His laughter was tinged with a sort of enchanting charm.
"Brother Leng, you’re incredible! I’m out eating with friends, but now I’m on my own outside."
"Alright! Then wait for me at the airport café, okay? It’s cold—don’t wander around! I’m boarding in just a moment; see you soon!" The ambient sounds of airport announcements could be heard in the background.
"Got it! Brother Leng, take a nap on the plane, and when you land, let’s go eat something delicious!" Feeling buoyant, Li Si flagged down a taxi from the street and headed straight for North City Airport.
In the airport café, Li Si was happily sipping on her cappuccino, her mind already preoccupied with picking a good restaurant to take Brother Leng to when he landed.
Just then, the phone on the table buzzed. Huh? Who could it be this time?
She picked it up and saw it was Yin Xian. She answered immediately, "Hello?"
"Li Si! You finally picked up my call! I’ve tried three times! If you hadn’t answered, I was going to bombard you with texts!" Yin Xian’s voice carried an amused tone.
"Really? I didn’t hear it earlier. What’s up?" Li Si didn’t want to talk to him for long, especially now with her phone down to only two bars of battery. She worried it would shut off soon.
"So, did you go out to have fun today?"
"I did! And you? How was your New Year?" free𝑤ebnovel.com
"It was alright. By the way, I’ll be heading to North City in a while—let’s meet up for a meal when I’m there! Can you give me a definite answer by then?"
"Well, in that case, let’s talk about it when we meet!"
"Alright! I miss you! Bye!" As he ended the call, he threw those words out casually. Li Si chuckled and hung up.
Even now, Li Si couldn’t quite figure out what she felt about Yin Xian. Her emotions were tangled—maybe a bit of happiness, but mixed with apprehension. Toward this boy who had burst into her otherwise peaceful life, she harbored a contradictory push-and-pull sentiment.
She hadn’t given a clear yes or no answer to Yin Xian because she was actually at odds with herself, fearful of getting hurt.
In the midst of these wandering thoughts, time slipped by quickly. She glanced at the clock and hurried toward the arrivals area.
Amid the bustling crowd, Leng Mochen emerged, dressed entirely in black and pushing a cart loaded with two large suitcases. At a glance, he spotted Li Si scanning for him amongst the masses.
"Hey, rascal!" Leng Mochen called out loudly. Li Si’s gaze darted toward him, and her previously anxious expression broke into a radiant smile.
"Brother Leng! I looked forever and still couldn’t find you!" Li Si complained lightly. When looking for people in busy crowds, even if the person was standing close by, Li Si’s eyes often couldn’t quite locate them—maybe this was her personal version of poor sight.
"You look lively enough—not packing on any weight over the New Year! Let’s go then!" He studied Li Si carefully—this little rascal hadn’t changed one bit.
"Brother Leng, you’re unbelievable—meeting a girl and immediately nagging about weight! Don’t you know how sensitive we are about that sort of thing?" Li Si fell into pace beside him. "Oh hey, Brother Leng, why’re you hauling two large suitcases this time? Last time, it was just a small bag!"
"You’re only noticing now? This time, I’m planning to stay in North City permanently—do you approve?"
"Of course, I do! But... the New Year isn’t even over yet—are you sure you can just leave Beijing like that?" Li Si threw her full support in favor but couldn’t help voicing her doubts.
"It’s fine. When I went back last time, my improved health really cheered up the family. So when I suggested coming here to recuperate, everyone agreed." The reality, of course, wasn’t as simple as Leng Mochen made it sound.
After disguising himself and returning home during the New Year celebrations, Mrs. Leng had been the happiest to see his improved state of health, followed by Mr. Leng Sr. However, the reactions of his uncle’s family had been oddly strange, leading Leng Mochen to decide to lay low in North City and investigate what was really going on behind the scenes.
On top of that, he wanted to stay close to this little rascal, taking care of her nearby. By now, he was absolutely certain—she was the girl he’d been seeking.
At the Western restaurant, Li Si and Leng Mochen had dropped off their belongings at the hotel before coming to this venue, located atop the First Department Store building.
After placing their orders, Leng Mochen chuckled while watching her chatter nonstop. "You seem awfully happy that I’m here, huh?"
Li Si nodded vigorously like a bobblehead. "Yes, yes! Brother Leng, you have no idea—this New Year was especially miserable for me!"
"Oh? Didn’t you mention you were going to your grandma’s for New Year’s Eve? Did someone bully you?" Could it possibly be that her relatives had cooked up some scheme against this little rascal again?
"Oh, it wasn’t that. It’s just... well... something happened. I don’t know how to explain it!" She hesitated, unsure whether to lay out the entire truth before him.
"As long as you didn’t get bullied, that’s what matters! But if anyone dares to mess with you, let me know—I’ll handle them for you!"
"Does this mean I officially have someone to back me up?" She could barely contain her glee—the feeling of having a protector was truly wonderful!
"You little rascal, I’m not some gang leader! Just eat your food—aren’t you hungry by now?" He let his imagination run briefly, picturing himself leading a gang with subordinates, and couldn’t bear the absurdity of the mental image.
"Brother Leng, I think you’ve gained some weight!" Li Si observed, noting the cuffs of his azure shirt slightly rolled up, exposing wrists that appeared a bit fuller. Where they had once been thin enough to look fragile, his hands now seemed well-proportioned, sinewy, and tapered.
"What, you think I’ve gained weight and you don’t like it?"
"No, it suits you! Brother Leng, I think you’d look even better with a little more weight on you!" With the added fullness, his facial features had softened yet remained strikingly attractive. Li Si found herself unwilling to look at him as boldly as she once had.
"Li Si? Long time no see! And who’s this?" Jia Yuejing entered with a few friends from outside and immediately recognized Li Si, who was engrossed in lively conversation with her companion.
Li Si silently grumbled to herself—this guy just wouldn’t drop out of her life! She hadn’t even wanted to come here, but this was currently the most upscale Western restaurant in North City. Plus, she had held onto some unrealistic hope that Jia Yuejing, though part owner, wouldn’t be around every single day. That’s why she’d brought Brother Leng here.
"This is my Brother Leng. Brother, this is Jia Yuejing, my college senior!" Li Si introduced the two with ease.
Leng Mochen nodded indifferently, not missing the fleeting resentment in Li Si’s eyes. Jia Yuejing scrutinized Leng Mochen from a man’s perspective—despite the slightly sickly pallor of his complexion, the depth in his gaze was far from ordinary.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Leng! By the way, Li Si, have you been in touch with Yin Xian recently? What’s that kid been up to?"
"Why would I contact him? Aren’t you two good friends? You should know better than me!" Li Si stabbed at her sliced steak irritably. Why did this guy always link her to Yin Xian whenever they met? Annoying!
"I meant no harm, Li Si. Enjoy your meal; I’ve got friends over at another table—catch you later! Let’s talk when we’ve got time." Jia Yuejing exchanged a few pleasantries and left for his friends’ table, though his gaze continued flitting back to the pair every now and then.
