Rebirth: CEO's Sweetheart Reaches the Life Pinnacle!-Chapter 82 - 79 Dismissal
Chapter 82: Chapter 79 Dismissal
Leng Mochen had just returned from outside when he learned about the general situation from Sister Tao after a few people had already left. He picked up the phone and called Old Cui, ordering him to immediately dismiss Zhou Rou and Li Guozhi!
He knocked on the door and entered Li Si’s room. She hadn’t gone to sleep yet and was playing on her computer at her desk.
"Why are you still up so late?" Leng Mochen asked indulgently, stroking the top of her head.
"Brother, can you stop messing with my hair? It’s all messy now!" Li Si felt that Leng Mochen was acting like a weird uncle. She hadn’t noticed it before, but recently, he had started to frequently touch her beloved hair.
"How is it messy? Looks like you’re alright!" He observed her from head to toe and, apart from a red mark on her neck—probably from a scratch—her exposed skin seemed fine.
Li Si raised her head proudly: "Well, of course! The three of us fought one person, how could we get injured? That would be way too weak!" Although fighting one against three wasn’t something to boast about, she still found it rather satisfying. Perhaps, deep down, she had a violent streak?
"Kid, I had Old Cui dismiss Zhou Rou and your aunt!"
"Okay, it’s fine. Zhou Rou can be dismissed, but Aunt has had it hard. Maybe we shouldn’t do this to her!" Li Si’s voice became softer as she spoke, but Leng Mochen’s gaze turned icy.
"Kid, do you know what your biggest flaw is?"
"I don’t know!" Li Si shook her head. She had many flaws, but she truly didn’t know which one was the biggest.
"Your biggest flaw is your softness. You’re always considering others! Think about it—if the roles were reversed and you were in their shoes today, would the Li family spare you out of sympathy for your struggles?"
Li Si let out a bitter laugh: "That’s a pretty accurate comparison. I admit, I was soft-hearted! From now on, I’ll be ruthless!"
Leng Mochen lovingly touched the red mark on Li Si’s neck with his hand: "Does it hurt?"
"Ow!" Li Si took a sharp breath—it didn’t really hurt but felt somewhat ticklish and numb.
"Did I hurt you?" Leng Mochen quickly withdrew his hand.
"No, it’s just a bit ticklish! Maybe I have sensitive spots there!"
Li Si recalled a former classmate—what was their name again—that had sensitive areas on their neck. They refused to wash it, and whenever their mom tried, they’d run away. Even the hygiene teacher had brought it up once!
Leng Mochen chuckled deeply: "You silly girl! Let me apply some ointment for you!"
"It’s fine, really. I looked in the mirror; it’s just a red mark. It’ll probably be gone by tomorrow!" Li Si truly didn’t think much of it.
Old Cui hung up the phone, still puzzled. What sort of drama was this? Weren’t those people Li Si’s relatives and friends? Could it be that Mr. Leng and Li Si were in conflict? He shook his head after considering it. The boss’s orders are the boss’s orders.
Zhou Rou, who was nursing her injuries at home, was now told not to come back to work. Her whole body was aching, but what made her angriest was losing a tooth on the right side and discovering three bloody scratches on her right cheek. She worried they might scar.
Hearing the news didn’t surprise her. Since things had come to a breaking point with Li Si, it was expected she wouldn’t be returning to the restaurant. Even if she hadn’t been dismissed, she would have resigned herself. But in her heart, she swore fiercely that she would stop at nothing to lead a better life than them—to rise above them and crush them underfoot!
Li Guozhi, however, reacted very differently. She was extremely upset and questioned Cui Hao about the reason, but he brushed her off with a few sentences.
Holding onto her work uniform, she stepped out of the restaurant, tears streaming down her face. She had worked there for over six months and truly developed an emotional connection to the place. Leaving at this moment hurt deeply.
Especially since her family’s financial situation had greatly improved after she started working. Now, with Wu Yue about to start high school, the tuition for self-funded admission would be 20,000 yuan. She hadn’t thought much about it because she had some private savings, but she never imagined that Grandma Li’s birthday celebration would result in her current predicament. Who should she blame?
When she got home, only her mother-in-law was there. Seeing Li Guozhi looking distraught, the old lady raised an eyebrow and asked: "What’s wrong? It’s so early—why are you home from work?"
"Mom, I’ve been dismissed!" Li Guozhi sobbed, feeling utterly wronged.
"What? Why were you dismissed? Did you do something wrong and get caught?" Mrs. Wu stood up, visibly agitated. If she hadn’t done anything wrong, then why was she fired? Losing such a good job—how would they manage going forward?
"No, I didn’t do anything wrong! Didn’t Dachuan tell you anything when he came home?"
"Tell me what?" Mrs. Wu, impatient by nature, couldn’t stand Li Guozhi’s hesitant demeanor.
"Li Si isn’t our family’s child—she’s adopted!"
"So what? What does that have to do with your job?" Mrs. Wu had heard this news before and figured the Li Family couldn’t have been that kindhearted. Out of all the folks in their group, only her eldest brother seemed reliable. novelbuddy.cσ๓
That evening, Wu Dachuan returned home and found out about Li Guozhi’s dismissal. He took her on his bicycle and headed to Li Guofu’s house.
Grandma Li hadn’t gone back to her hometown since her birthday celebration and was still staying at her second son’s house.
It seemed the saying "Distance makes the heart grow fonder" proved true. When they didn’t live together, she thought her second daughter-in-law was a good person. But after moving in, conflicts arose.
Her second son was rarely home, so now the house consisted of Li Fei, who was on summer vacation, and Zhang Meihua, who only returned from work in the evenings. Grandma Li, unable to stay idle, would spend her time tidying up, cooking meals, and doing laundry.
Within a few days, she began to feel aches and pains, and the more she worked, the more mistakes she made. Gradually, the idea of returning to her hometown surfaced in her mind. Yet each time the thought arose, her second daughter-in-law would persuade her to stay, so she held off for the time being.
When Li Guozhi and her husband Wu Dachuan arrived, the three women—Grandma Li, Li Fei, and Zhang Meihua—were having dinner.
"Why are you here?" Grandma Li put down her chopsticks and asked, "Have you eaten yet?" She glanced at the small portions on the table and refrained from saying more.
"I’ll go stir-fry a few more dishes—there’s no way you’ve eaten with such little food!" Zhang Meihua, though reluctant, quickly went to the kitchen to make two more dishes, seeing that they hadn’t eaten.
While she was cooking, Grandma Li and Li Fei, who were seated at the dinner table, finally learned about Li Guozhi’s dismissal.
Grandma Li angrily slapped the table: "Are they bullying us because we have no power? Just dismissing someone like that?"
"Mom, don’t get angry. It’s their business, and they hold all the authority. If they want to fire someone, they can!" Wu Dachuan said with a fawning smile, feeling the need to seek advice from Grandma Li and the others about what to do next.
"If worse comes to worst, we can go to the restaurant and talk to the manager—see if we can reason with them. Do you think that will work?" After a while, Grandma Li’s tone softened as she asked hesitantly.
She quickly pieced together the situation. After all, the job had originally been arranged by Li Si. Now that the Li family didn’t acknowledge her as one of their own, it made sense for them to terminate her employment.
Still, as much as the logic made sense, having her daughter out of work was a serious concern.
