Chapter 85: Chapter 85 Roommate

Seeing three pairs of questioning eyes looking at her, Wan Chu’er lifted the burlap bag in her hand and flashed a smile:

"Hello everyone, I’m Wan Chu’er, a freshman in Computer Science and Technology, and I’ve also been assigned to dormitory 409."

After finishing her words, she glanced at the beds, searching for her own.

The bunk bed where the other girl was, both the upper and lower bunks were already made up with mattresses, and below the opposite bunk bed, aside from the pink bedding, there was a circle of plush toys, while the upper bunk was piled with three or four boxes.

It seems like this upper bunk was being used purely for storing things. She took a look around the dormitory; it was also filled with stuff everywhere.

Following Wan Chu’er’s gaze, the three girls in the dormitory realized the situation.

The girl who was eating snacks stood up first, somewhat embarrassed:

"Hello, Wan Chu’er, my name is Lin Yufei. We thought you weren’t coming, so we put our things on your bed. I’ll move them right away, just give me a moment."

Lin Yufei put down the snacks in her hand and quickly climbed up the bunk bed, ready to move her belongings.

Ma Tianjiao, who was doing her makeup, rolled her eyes, remembering that she had run into Wan Chu’er in the hallway earlier.

She thought she was the first to arrive at the dormitory, so she took the best position by the window where the sun shone in. Now, it seems it should have been Wan Chu’er who got here first.

Not only did she not claim a good spot, but she left, and now she moved in so late; what a fool.

No, wait, anyone who gets admitted to the first university isn’t a fool. If Wan Chu’er had claimed the bed first, wouldn’t that mean I would have had to sleep somewhere else? So, Wan Chu’er must have had other plans in mind. Ma Tianjiao changed her thoughts and turned her head, speaking coquettishly:

"My name is Ma Tianjiao," as a response to Wan Chu’er’s earlier introduction, and then with a slight displeasure, she looked up and spoke to Lin Yufei: "Lin Yufei, please move my boxes too while you’re at it."

She had two boxes there, thinking no one would come; now where should she put her boxes?

Lin Yufei, on the bunk above, rolled her eyes speechlessly; am I that close to you?

Asking for help without any politeness, she originally wanted to refuse, but a new idea came to mind, she smiled and said: "Okay, but don’t blame me if I drop them."

The girl lying down and listening to music took out her earbuds, sat up, and smiled sweetly at Wan Chu’er: "Hello Wan Chu’er, my name is Mai Qiqi." She hadn’t put any boxes on Wan Chu’er’s bed.

Wan Chu’er nodded with a smile as a response.

"Thud!"

Suddenly, a loud sound of something heavy falling startled everyone, and they turned to look. Lin Yufei was half-squatting on the upper bunk, eyes wide open, sticking out her tongue, and giggling:

"Sorry, Ma Tianjiao, your box was too heavy, my hand slipped."

Ma Tianjiao stamped her foot in anger: "Lin Yufei, did you do that on purpose! There are valuable things in my box, can you afford it if they get broken?"

Lin Yufei was not pleased, her smile vanished, she spoke coldly: "What, I make a mistake while helping you? You should get up here and do it yourself if you are so capable. It wasn’t like this when you were giving orders; I am just your roommate, not your maid."

Ma Tianjiao replied: "If you’re not happy, why didn’t you say so earlier? Could I have forced you? It’s clear you did it on purpose to make trouble!"

...

Soon, Ma Tianjiao and Lin Yufei started to butt heads.

Mai Qiqi smiled at Wan Chu’er with shrugged shoulders, looking rather helpless.

One was arrogant, and the other was no easy opponent, not to mention a bystander enjoying the show. Wan Chu’er sighed inwardly, adding to this mix herself who disliked trouble.

Looks like dorm life in the four years of college was going to be lively.

Watching Lin Yufei and Ma Tianjiao in their heated squabble, Wan Chu’er found a spot for her luggage. Then she walked over to the bunk bed, lifted one corner of the mattress on the bottom bunk, pulled out a cloth from her suitcase to wipe things down, placed it on that corner and then stepped on it. She lifted the two remaining boxes from atop the bunker down to the middle of the dorm room. Finally, she came down and restored the bottom bunk to its original state.

Seeing Wan Chu’er efficiently handle everything, Ma Tianjiao, and Lin Yufei momentarily forgot their argument.

Mai Qiqi exclaimed in surprise: "Wow, Wan Chu’er, you are really strong!"

"Pfft," Ma Tianjiao scoffed disdainfully. For a girl, having so much strength was surely nothing to boast about.

Lin Yufei chimed in: "Wan Chu’er, from now on, we’ll call you ’Popeye the Sailor,’ no, let’s call you ’Strong Chu’er’ instead."

In the last two years, Popeye was a popular animated series.

Wan Chu’er nodded, her face showing neither pleasure nor displeasure, only turning to Lin Yufei who was still on the upper bunk to say, "If it’s convenient, I’d like to tidy up my bunk."

Lin Yufei responded with an "Oh," and climbed down. It seemed that this Wan Chu’er was not an easy person to get along with either.

Wan Chu’er fetched some water and started wiping down her bunk, desk, chair, and her locker.

Naturally, the latter two also housed quite a bit of Lin Yufei’s and Ma Tianjiao’s belongings. The two grumbled as they searched for places to put their stuff, while Wan Chu’er chose to ignore them and continued organizing her own things.

Mai Qiqi didn’t join in either, glancing back and forth before turning with a twirl of her eyes to smile at Wan Chu’er, "Wan Chu’er, why did you arrive so late today?"

Without interrupting her work, Wan Chu’er casually replied, "Arriving early wasn’t going to do anything, so I came later."

Getting no useful information, it was apparent that Wan Chu’er was not one for socializing.

Following this, Lin Yufei asked, "Hey, Wan Chu’er, where are you from? Qiqi and I are from Beijing, Ma Tianjiao is from Z province. How about you?"

"I’m from S province," Wan Chu’er said.

Hearing that, Ma Tianjiao immediately commented with deep meaning, "S province, huh—"

It seemed Lin Yufei had forgotten how heated her argument with Ma Tianjiao had been as she continued, "What about S province, Ma Tianjiao?"

"S province is one of the most underdeveloped provinces in the country," her implication was clear.

Wan Chu’er seemed not to have heard their conversation, meticulously placing her belongings in order.

Mai Qiqi interrupted Lin Yufei’s and Ma Tianjiao’s conversation, suggesting, "Now that all our dormmates are here, let’s go out for dinner tonight. I know a place nearby the school that serves good food and it’s not expensive."

Lin Yufei and Ma Tianjiao enthusiastically agreed with both hands, and Wan Chu’er did not refuse.

So the group started to get ready, dressing up. When all three of them had finally changed clothes and combed their hair, Wan Chu’er also finished organizing. She patted the dust off her clothes, grabbed her wallet and was ready to leave.

Lin Yufei looked at Wan Chu’er but didn’t say anything, while Ma Tianjiao figured that Wan Chu’er’s family must be poor since she didn’t bring many belongings and also dressed quite ordinarily.
