However, Mei Yinan’s anger did not subside just because she had only called out two names, “You two, you two, you were supposed to look after Zhenzhen and Chenchen, and here you two are, lying around, even watching TV, looking all relaxed.”

At home, these two knew to do the dishes, but now it seemed they didn’t bother to lift a finger.

Luckily, Mei Mengzhen’s jar was in Fan Hongwei’s hands; otherwise, it would surely have been smashed onto the couple.

Hearing the commotion, Mei Mengzhen naturally came out to explain: “No, Auntie, Brother Tianyu and Sister Tianhua were too stuffed to move, so they lay down for a bit.”

And let’s not even start on the rice that Mei Mengzhen cooked to go with the soup—each of them had an additional bowl. You could say they were stuffed.

Being unable to move was somewhat understandable, and they had asked her to leave the dishes for them to wash later, but Mei Mengzhen wasn’t used to that, so she cleaned up herself. Little did she know that her aunt and uncle, who had come over to return the bowl, caught them red-handed, which was somewhat unfair.

Learning that the kids couldn’t move due to being stuffed, the couple also looked rather embarrassed because they had just eaten so much themselves and had come downstairs to walk it off.

Mei Yinan softened her tone a bit, “How much did you two eat?”

“Half a chicken each, and then the chicken soup with carrots and Chicken Soup Powder,” Fan Tianyu pointed to the bowl in the kitchen, “After finishing a whole bowl of that, we also divided the rest of Chenchen’s unfinished portion, and there was another bowl of rice.”

The couple was speechless. It wouldn’t kill you to eat less; if they couldn’t finish, they could’ve simply reheated it tomorrow for another meal, but they chose to eat it all in one sitting.

Mei Yinan completely ignored the fact that they too had finished everything in one go without considering saving any for the next day.

Yet, seeing how gluttonous her nephew and niece were, Mei Yinan was annoyed. But she knew when enough was enough. It wasn’t a big deal, and everything was explained. After a point, there was no need to harp on it any longer.

Mei Yinan quickly took the cloth from Mengchen’s hand, wiped the table clean, and then made her way to the kitchen to help Mei Mengzhen wash the dishes and tidy up. Seeing the pile of vegetables and fruits at home, she was curious, “Why did you buy so much? Did you get all these from the same place?”

Mei Mengzhen nodded, “Yes, Chenchen loves it, so I buy some every day. Plus, their selection changes daily, and buying over time, it piled up. Auntie, you should take some home. I’m worried they’ll go bad if kept for too long.”

Going bad was unlikely, as the vegetables from the space wouldn’t spoil while in there and could last several days longer than usual when outside. Therefore, she confidently took them out, “And there’s a lot of fruit as well.”

Seeing all the vegetables and fruits, Mei Yinan felt a pang of distress, “You kid, you keep all these at home, you must’ve almost run out of money.”

“Not at all, Auntie, I still have money. Let me pack some fruits and vegetables for you.” As she spoke, Mei Mengzhen pulled out several plastic bags from a cabinet below and began to fill them with greens for her aunt. Then, she added a large watermelon. Just as Mei Mengzhen was about to grab another bag to pack more fruits, Mei Yinan stopped her: “That’s enough, any more and you’ll be cleaned out.”

Not really, she hadn’t touched the ones in the full fridge; the vegetables she packed were supposed to be eaten over the next couple of days, “I still have more in the fridge, it’s stuffed full.”

Mei Yinan opened the fridge to see for herself and indeed it was, but she still told her to stop, “That’s enough, we have plenty.”

After speaking, Mei Yinan took out a thousand yuan from her pocket and handed it to Mei Mengzhen, “Here, take this money.”

Mei Mengzhen immediately refused, “Auntie, what are you doing? It’s just a bit of vegetables, it doesn’t cost much.”

“You think I don’t know how much they cost? Their vegetables are priced at five, ten yuan a bunch; this big bag would cost a few hundred at the very least. Not to mention, today’s chicken soup had so many ingredients, all costing money. Plus, Tianyu will be eating here for several more days, I even think this thousand yuan isn’t enough.”

She had originally planned to give the kids some living expenses when she left home. Mei Yinan came out of the kitchen carrying the bags of vegetables. Seeing the father and sons sprawled out in someone else’s house and Mei Mengchen sitting firmly on a small stool, earnestly watching cartoons, her anger surged even more, “You lot are too much.” They weren’t young anymore; they should be embarrassed that Mei Mengzhen might see this and laugh.

But as stuffed as they were, it would take a while longer for them to recover. After resting for a good amount of time, Mei Yinan and Fan Hongwei finally took Fan Tianhua back home with them.

Fan Tianhua needed to return to work. Her job was in Jiangcheng, so she had to catch the last bus in the afternoon to leave.
