Chapter 811: Gathering Equipment
----------
After the shock had passed,
He Liang led the team members to board the plane one after another.
Once on the plane,
they found that all the flight attendants were male; there were no females at all, which was slightly disappointing. However, considering that this was a foreign country and the airplane would travel among various African nations,
it was somewhat messy here.
If there were female flight attendants,
they would not feel at ease.
These flight attendants were all dressed in Security Company uniforms, each one looking robust and familiar. Since they had no tickets, they just found seats nearby, and soon, most of the seats in the cabin were filled.
There were still about a dozen seats left.
They thought no one else would come aboard.
But to their surprise, about ten Africans boarded at that moment, all dressed formally, looking like they were not simple folk. These Africans weren’t noisy but sat quietly in their seats, chatting softly.
If they hadn’t known this was their company’s airplane,
they would have started to feel anxious.
"Captain, who are these people?" Chu Sheng whispered, his eyes darting towards the Africans in front.
He Liang shook his head.
"I’m not sure, perhaps they are collaborators of the company, or just people being helped along," he knew the company had recently planned to recruit African security guards, considering the language and regional advantages.
But as the Deputy General Manager of the Congo Gold subsidiary, he knew it was still just a plan, and formal recruitment had not yet started—at least not until next month. These people were clearly not here to be security guards.
They must be "friends."
The company’s smooth operation here and the connections with local powers and interest groups were undeniable; to him, mutual aid was normal business.
Chu Sheng muttered an acknowledgment.
Unable to get an answer,
he decided to let it go, though he remained cautious, his quick mind even wondered if this could be a company test, like those unexpected drills in movies. It would be fun if something like that happened.
Unfortunately,
Chu Sheng was destined to be disappointed.
During the next two hours of the flight, the Africans showed no signs of abnormality, which relieved Chu Sheng of unnecessary tension. Yet, he didn’t think it was an overreaction; as a soldier in a foreign land, it was better to err on the side of caution.
"Looks like you’re slightly disappointed, aren’t you?"
Watching Chu Sheng’s expression, He Liang couldn’t help but speak with a trace of amusement.
Chu Sheng chuckled, "Better safe than sorry, right? In non-secure areas, maintaining a skeptical attitude toward everything around us is necessary. Every doubt is a potential danger, isn’t that what you taught me?"
"Good lad," He Liang nodded in satisfaction. Chu Sheng hadn’t let his guard down, and of course, neither could he. As the leader, it was his duty to bring them all back safely—no room for carelessness.
After some turbulence,
the airplane landed at the destination airport.
This was no small aircraft, but a medium-sized airliner with a capacity of one hundred twenty-six passengers. Due to its size, the plane could only land at the largest airport in the province.
Bei Ji Province.
Fei Yi City.
This was their layover site.
The final destination was on the border between Bei Ji Province and Nan Ji Province, but still under the jurisdiction of Bei Ji Province, near Lake Kivu—the highest lake in Central Africa—with Rwanda on the opposite shore of the lake.
The team members’ first impression upon stepping off the airplane was summed up in one word—shabby.
Apart from the maintained runway, they felt the entire airport had ceased maintenance for many years. There were not many planes coming and going, mostly small passenger aircrafts. Their Boeing 737-700 was already the largest behemoth here.
Form ranks.
Count off.
Even the people from Wan Qing Mining were the same, lining up, carrying their belongings and some equipment. This time, it was mainly the management that had arrived, with a large number of workers and equipment yet to arrive.
At that moment,
He Liang saw a Chinese man walking over from inside the airport, shaking hands with one of the Africans who came on the ’Shunfeng Aircraft’, speaking something. He Liang recognized this person and was somewhat excited.
Because this was the director of the equipment mobilization department of the company overseas, Tan Ze.
He had met him a few times, not familiar,
but not a stranger either.
Tan Ze also had another identity, that of Deputy General Manager at Headquarters, several ranks higher than him. However, Tan Ze was usually active overseas and was only nominally in China.
He Liang and the mining field’s manager were waiting for further instructions, as they had been ordered to listen to Tan Ze.
It wasn’t long before
it seemed Tan Ze had finished talking.
He jogged over and said, "Deputy Manager He, Manager Guan, I am Tan Ze. Follow me to collect your transportation vehicles; you will be escorted by people from here for the next part of your journey."
Manager Guan referred to the mining field’s manager, Guan Songhua, a man in his forties with many years of management experience in African mining fields. He had been poached by Wan Qing Mining with a high salary to manage the soon-to-be-built largest mining site in Congo Gold.
"Thank you," Guan Songhua said with a smile.
"It’s no trouble at all," Tan Ze said, taking the lead with Wan Qing Mining’s employees and security guards quickly following. They did not take the airport’s passenger route, but instead took the cargo route.
Most of the Africans had already left, leaving only two leaders in front leading the way. He Liang guessed that these individuals were either airport leaders or held significant positions, as neither the airport police nor staff would be nodding and bowing otherwise.
They exited the airport enclosure.
After two turns,
they arrived at a warehouse.
The courtyard of the warehouse was overgrown with weeds, and each warehouse door was rusty, but the locks were new. Also, the ground showed signs of many vehicles having passed, hinting that the so-called transportation vehicles were inside these warehouses.
Tan Ze stepped forward to unlock a door.
He opened the first door.
He Liang saw two military trucks inside, recognizing them as American-made, which he could understand. Huaxia’s military trucks are not something ordinary people could buy, but with American ones, money talks.
"Manager Guan, these are the main transportation vehicles for your personnel moving forward, four military trucks, all filled with fuel," said Tan Ze, as he opened another door revealing two similar trucks.
Sometime later,
Tan Ze opened three more doors.
"These eight pickups and sixteen motorcycles are also yours, belonging to Wan Qing Mining’s property. Apart from this, you also have a diesel transport truck parked in a nearby small town close to the mining area. This truck is also Wan Qing Mining’s property, but the diesel can be used by everyone."
After that,
Tan Ze walked over to Guan Songlin, handing him a document.
"These are the handover procedures, please sign after confirming there are no errors, and give them to me later." After handing over the document to Guan Songlin, he promptly called more than a dozen people to come out and inspect the vehicles.
With so many eyes,
and other company personnel present, this wasn’t just a formal walk-through.
Then, Tan Ze walked up to He Liang, seeing the excitement in He Liang’s eyes, and smiled, saying, "Deputy Manager He, were you getting anxious?"
"Heh, a bit." He Liang chuckled, looking at the remaining warehouses, his eyes sparkling with satisfaction despite not owning any of the content inside, but just looking at them was very satisfying.
