Chapter 99: Dragon Eater: Fear and Helplessness (3)
CRUNCH!
At that moment, the sky shattered in Drakion’s mind.
"Stryx!!"
CRUNCH! CRUNCH!
The world turned black and white before Drakion. He couldn’t feel anything—only the sound of the Dragon Eater devouring Stryx, and the horrific sight unfolding before him.
Drakion’s eyes were wide open, frozen in place, disbelief swirling endlessly within them.
"So delicious," the Dragon Eater muttered.
"Now... for the remaining dishes."
Drakion watched as every dragon before him was eaten by the Dragon Eater. All of them—dragged helplessly, crunched and devoured like ants beneath its fangs.
"Zephyr."
"Blaze."
"Finn."
"Noctheria."
"Lizzy."
"Kaidros."
"..."
Drakion called out their names as he stood in shock—but there was no response. It remained only him. His eyes were void of emotion; even tears could not come.
The heart-wrenching pain shattered him into pieces, to the point he felt suffocated. The agony surging within Drakion was beyond explanation.
He held his head as he collapsed to his knees.
"Aaaaaargh!"
A scream of anguish ripped from his throat as excruciating torment struck his chest. Before him, the fellow dragons—his family—had been eaten alive by the enemy, while he hid in fear, watching them gnawed and devoured.
He loathed himself.
As the Dragon Emperor, meant to lead and protect his clan, he had cowered before the enemy and watched his brethren be consumed like insects—never even raising a hand.
Ding!
[Detecting that Host’s emotions are going beyond limit.]
[Initiating precautionary measures to stabilize Host’s emotional state.]
But Drakion was already devastated. He stared at the Dragon Eater with ice-cold eyes. It was because of that creature—all of it. The hatred, the pain, the helpless rage—it all surged toward a singular desire:
To annihilate the Dragon Eater.
Ding!
[All precautionary measures... failed.]
The onlookers watched as the Dragon Eater devoured every dragon, sending chills down their spines. Even though they weren’t dragons themselves, fear and horror took hold.
An apex race—dragons—reduced to mere snacks.
They trembled.
What kind of enemy was this? If such a creature walked among them, they would be helpless—mere infants in its presence.
They looked to Drakion and shook their heads. Those dragons, who had just revealed themselves, had been massacred without mercy. Some among the crowd relished the pain that gripped Drakion—like the icy young lady whose Emperor had been slapped, Leo and his gang. Even Lyla watched the scene, expressionless... yet something pricked at her heart. A strange, unfamiliar ache.
"Yes... that aura of revenge. Kill me!" the Dragon Eater laughed maniacally.
Drakion’s mind was consumed by hatred. He glared at the Dragon Eater, roaring to the skies before charging forward like a living storm.
With a wave of his hand, his fury igniting every cell of his being, he summoned the Death Reaper—his killing intent overflowing—as he surged toward the Dragon Eater with a single, savage purpose.
Drakion charged.
The Dragon Eater was looking at him with an amused smile, watching Drakion hurl himself forward.
It didn’t even move from where it stood as Drakion’s Death Reaper struck.
As the Death Reaper hit the Dragon Eater, the onlookers watched in silence—yet the blade merely passed through its body.
No injuries. No damage. Nothing.
"Ouch, that hurts," the Dragon Eater cried out, pretending to be in pain.
But Drakion didn’t stop. He continued slashing at the Dragon Eater with all his might.
"Ouch. Ouch. Ouch," the Dragon Eater mocked, glancing at Drakion while feigning agony.
The onlookers shook their heads.
The Dragon Eater was toying with him.
Drakion knew this. He felt it in his bones. But he refused to give up, attacking again and again.
More than ten minutes passed—and still, Drakion had failed to land a single damaging blow.
Helplessness crept over him.
"Well, that’s enough playing for now," the Dragon Eater laughed, and with one of its gruesome legs, it kicked.
No one saw the movement.
All they saw was Drakion flying.
He had been striking, lunging—yet in the next instant, it was as if the entire world had crashed into him.
His vision shattered. His senses tore apart.
The next thing he knew, he was airborne. The Death Reaper had been flung elsewhere.
Drakion’s body felt broken—his Devouring Dragon bloodline struggling to mend the wounds.
But it couldn’t match the chaos the Dragon Eater had unleashed inside him.
Helplessness surged through his heart.
So this is the difference between us...
Drakion thought, gazing at the crimson sun of the Dragon Ruins.
Yet for a brief moment, it shimmered with golden splendor.
"Ah, the feast is prepared..."
The Dragon Eater’s mouth watered. Suddenly, tentacles slithered out, coiling around Drakion and dragging him toward its gaping maw.
As he neared the creature’s jaws, one of the runic brands on Drakion’s body lit up with golden brilliance.
The Ruined Golden Dragon Palace ignited with sacred radiance.
The Dragon Statue blazed with light—and in a blink, vanished—reappearing above the Dragon Eater.
Then, together, the Dragon Palace, the Dragon Statue, and the Dragon Bridge unleashed a blinding beam of light that struck the Golden Draconic Rune.
"Aaargh!"
The Dragon Eater screamed in agony, dropping Drakion as its tongue recoiled violently.
"Ah, Aurithon... you old dragon... why can’t you just give up!?"
The Dragon Eater roared, thrashing across the earth, writhing in pain.
The onlookers were stunned.
They watched the Dragon Eater—a terror made flesh—suppressed by the very dragon relics they had once thought ruined.
Meanwhile, Drakion...
He could see none of it.
His vision blurred.
"It’s time to take a nap..."
Drakion’s lips curled into a faint smile as he closed his eyes.
The onlookers watched this in shock as Drakion closed his eyes with his last breath. They shook their heads—this was expected.
Meanwhile, in outer space...
A lone figure hurtled through the void.
The only thing visible now—its half-gold, half-black hair streaming behind it like comet fire.
