Reborn as Mr.CEO's Fat Wife-Chapter 548: If She Dies, It Must Be My Fault
Chapter 548: Chapter 548: If She Dies, It Must Be My Fault
Kennan Max’s eyes instantly turned red. When had he ever seen Brandon like this?
He and his brother had known Brandon for ten years. Even though they were of the same age as Brandon, they were practically raised by him. They had seen all sides of Brandon.
Sometimes indifferent, sometimes gentlemanly, sometimes ruthless, sometimes cunning, but never had they seen him so out of control.
He knew Abigail Green was different for Brandon. She made him look more like a living person, surrounded by the smoke and fire of the earthly world.
Not only was the old man grateful, but those who had followed Brandon for years were also grateful. However, looking at the scene before him, Kennan felt some regret. If they had known this would be the outcome from the beginning, they should have shielded Brandon from her, not letting her appear in his life at all.
"Young Master, please calm down. There was just an explosion here, and there’s still a danger of collapse at any moment." Kennan’s usually indifferent face was now tinged with sorrow as he softly tried to stop Brandon.
Brandon’s hands were already bleeding, yet he had barely dug out anything. He couldn’t hear Kennan’s voice, only softly and repeatedly calling, "Abigail, Abigail can you hear me? Abigail, Abigail... answer me if you can hear, I’ll take you home..."
But no one responded to him.
The dirty little leg exposed amidst the piles of rocks lay still, without any sign of movement.
Brandon closed his eyes forcefully, his whole body trembling uncontrollably as he continued to dig bit by bit.
The security guard who had been scared by Brandon earlier was initially furious, but when he turned back and saw this crazed scene, he was at a loss for words, just staring numbly at the handsome man frantically digging through the stones.
Some softer-hearted people nearby already had red-rimmed eyes.
Kennan watched Brandon’s near-madness, feeling a stabbing pain in his heart. Just then, the police and journalists arrived at the scene.
Everyone froze when they saw this scene.
Particularly many journalists on-site recognized Brandon’s face. After the initial shock came a frenzy of photo-taking.
Kennan waved his hand, and immediately someone stepped forward to stop the reporters, but there were simply too many of them, and they couldn’t be stopped.
The lead police officer stepped forward. "Sir, please step aside. The rescue team will be here soon. What you’re doing is too dangerous."
"Young Master, did you hear that? The rescue team will be here soon," Kennan quickly added.
Brandon said nothing, just silently continued digging. Suddenly, there was a second collapse above, and stones rolled down.
Startled, Kennan shouted, "Young Master, move aside..."
But instead of moving aside, Brandon bent down to shield the falling stones with his body.
"Young Master..." Kennan hurriedly tried to block the stones himself, but many still struck Brandon, leaving streaks of blood on the face that countless people were infatuated with.
Yet Brandon seemed impervious to pain, staring down at the area he had painstakingly dug out, now buried again. His eyes were bloodshot as he resumed his earlier actions. How could Abigail, who had fought so hard to be reborn, leave just like that?
He couldn’t believe it!
Kennan’s hand was also hit. Seeing the Young Master like this was heart-wrenching.
Numerous people around had red eyes. Finally, the rescue team arrived.
Kennan gritted his teeth. "Young Master, the rescue team is here. They’re faster than us. Let them handle it; that way, you can see the Young Mistress sooner."
Brandon’s lips moved. Just then, the lead police officer stepped forward and, ignoring their protests, dragged them to a safe area.
Brandon’s hands were now bloody, with several wounds on his face, and his body covered in the dust and debris from the falling stones, looking utterly disheveled. But he felt none of it, his gaze fixed steadily on the rescue site.
He had just touched that exposed little leg, so even if he wanted to deceive himself, it was impossible. The person lying in there had long ceased to breathe.
He had killed her!
If Abigail was dead, it was definitely his doing.
He had killed her...
She came to him with a face full of hope and joy, but because of anger, jealousy, and distrust, he broke her heart and even proposed a breakup. He could have calmed down and given her a chance to explain.
Last time, she had been so sad, almost facing his violence, but in the end, she still listened to his explanation and gave him another chance.
And what had he done?
If he hadn’t said those hurtful words, if he hadn’t proposed a breakup, how could she have stayed in that place for so long?
If she had left early, none of this would have happened.
If he hadn’t waited for her to chase after him but had instead turned back to accompany her...
But there were no ifs.
"Young Master..." Kennan saw Brandon standing stock still and didn’t know what to do, softly calling his name, but Brandon seemed to hear nothing.
He was entrapped in immense guilt and regret, unable to extricate himself.
"What’s that?" Just as everyone’s attention was on the rescue, someone exclaimed, looking at the large screen in the arena.
Then, more people turned to look.
"Oh my God, where are all those people?" someone asked, puzzled, looking at the chaotic crowd on the screen.
"It looks like the underground boxing arena." Someone sharp-eyed noticed the boxing ring in the middle.
More people then recognized the scene, and suddenly the screen switched to the huge stage screen, showing the prize pool already at sixty billion and still ticking up.
Sharp-eyed journalists immediately realized something was off. This was gambling? And looking at the event scores on screen, besides boxing matches, there were other competitive events, indicating this was an underground casino... and likely situated right below where the collapse happened.
This realization excited many journalists. They quickly raised their cameras to the big screen. If everything up there was real, they were about to witness history.
Soon, sharp journalists were captivated by the data and the trapped people on the screen. They recognized many familiar faces, some often appearing in entertainment news, others in financial news...
Kennan, hearing the commotion, immediately contacted Kelvin Max, warning him that someone was broadcasting images from the underground casino, possibly the one responsible for Abigail’s death.
Kelvin had already noticed it. Though the exits were blown up, everything inside was still operating. He found Luke Scout. Just as he was about to share his findings, Kennan’s last statement made him stiffen. "Brother, what nonsense are you talking about? What killer?"
Kennan then realized his brother was unaware of the situation above. In a pained voice, he softly recounted Abigail’s murder and Brandon’s breakdown.
After the connection cut off, Kelvin remained shell-shocked for a while before casting a cold glance at Sophie Hope.
Sophie, vaguely overhearing the conversation, turned pale. How? How could she die...
