Chapter 116: She thought of me

Even now, after an entire lifetime, Ella was still the ghost in their family portrait.

She used to wonder... Both of them were their daughters yet why did Esther receive support throughout all her highs and lows? While, she was discarded in the blink of an eye.

Ella resented her parents for treating her like that. Yet, at this moment, she did not feel any sort of resentment inside her.

She was seeing her father almost after a decade if she had to consider the timeline of her previous life.

Her heart ached but there was a hint of relief in knowing that they were doing well.

Sooner or later, whether they wanted or not, they would have to see her and then, she would make sure that they knew the truth of every single matter over which they had pushed her away from them.

After reaching the Eve Mansion, Ella immediately looked for Riri.

And when she finally saw him, she was taken aback.

On the entire way, she had been concerned about Riri, wondering if he somehow fell sick. With various thoughts occupying her head, she made it to the mansion somehow.

Yet nobody could have prepared her for the sight that greeted her vision once she reached here.

The little puppy was sitting on the space by the windowsill. The windows were closed and raindrops crashed against the glass.

And the pup’s dark eyes sparkled like black jewels. His usually swishy tail seemed to have gone limp and his ears were drooping.

In the background, somebody had played the music and sad notes of piano floated by, amplifying the depressing air.

The sight definitely created a melancholic sight.

Ella’s jaw dropped. Wasting no time, she rushed off to Riri.

But at the last moment, she retracted her outstretched hand. Since her clothes were drenched, Ella grabbed a towel and wrapped Riri in it before pulling him into his arms.

"There there...’’ Ella stroked his hair, "What happened to you?"

The puppy looked at her and for a split second, his eyes sparkled but then he let his head tilt to the side, watching the rain.

"_"

Ella turned to Bertha, ’’Turn off the music.’’

Bertha immediately acted on it, "Miss Yu, it was actually... cough..." the head servant pointed her chin at Rir, "He wanted us to play it. Later, he sat by the window like a heartbroken prince... since morning."

"_"

Ella was a little dumbfounded, "Tell me what exactly happened."

Hearing Ella’s question, Bertha fell into contemplation before she finally explained everything.

It turned out that Adrian reached Vermilion City early this morning. And after Ji Yan left Riri in Bertha’s care, Adrian was gone.

Everything was fine at first. But things went wrong when it started drizzling.

Suddenly, Riri started running around in the mansion, confusing everyone.

And after a while, he eventually settled near the window, watching the rain.

He refused to eat, or sleep or play around no matter how the servants tried.

Nobody dared to mention this matter in front of Adrian in fear of being punished. And after pondering over it for a long time, they resorted to looking for Ella for help.

Ella sighed as she glanced at Riri. She had long realized that this little puppy was quite sensitive and intellectual regardings things in his surroundings.

But at the end of the day, she saw him as her baby so she had chosen to overlook the fact that Riri was a little different from the others of his kind.

However, it led to this new trouble where she did not know what to do. Because by the looks of it, it was obvious that Riri was not sick.

In the end, Ella could not figure anything out so she decided to try to use other methods to cheer Riri up.

After freshening up and changing into a fresh pair of clothes, Ella took Riri to the library, ignoring his little protests.

With snacks, books, and cozy ambience, what could go wrong?

Alas, she forgot that Riri was not a human. He couldn’t care less about those things.

In the end, Riri remained listeless throughout the day.

In the evening, Ella took Riri downstairs and made him sit in front of the television.

Yet, suddenly, it started raining in the cartoon that was played and the puppy listlessly slid off her lap and ran to the entrance.

Ella chased after him mindlessly but her foot landed on a wet spot that the cleaner had just covered.

And the ground seemed to have been pulled out from under her feet as her body propelled forward.

Ella closed her eyes abruptly.

Yet, after a few seconds, the expected pain never came.

Her head bumped into something solid. Yet it was not painful.

Suddenly, a familiar fragrance invaded her senses. Woodfire and cedar. The slight smell of the spring rain.

"Elle?"

The firm surface pressed against her face vibrated as the deep voice rumbled above her head.

"_"

Ella abruptly pulled back and looked up.

Her eyes met with a pair of dark eyes seemingly mirroring the stormy weather outside.

Adrian’s face seemed to be paler than usual, and there were more green lines under his eyes, his features seemed sharp. And he seemed to be enshrouded in a layer of chill.

Ella slowly recovered her senses and flashed a bright smile at him, "Baby, you are finally back from work! These past few days, I did not hear from you and I was thinking..."

"You... thought of me?" Adrian asked as if she had said something unthinkable.

Ella blinked, "Of course, I thought of you and... mmmp!"

The remaining words in Ella’s mouth did not see the light of the day as Adrian punched her chin and captured her lips with his.

’Boom’

’Bam’

’Clang’

’Crash’

The cleaner dropped his wiper.

Two of the maids bumped into each other.

The cook dropped the new dish he had just prepared.

Another servant missed a step and crashed on the floor.

Yet Adrian and Ella seemed to have been separated by everyone, seemingly encased in their own pink bubble.

Adrian was not the least bit bothered by the background sounds.

But Ella got distracted by it for a moment yet suddenly, the man’s lips clamped on her bottom lips, cutting off the trail of her thoughts.

Ella gasped a little and his tongue thrust inside her mouth, spreading the subtle flavor of mint inside.

An arm wrapped around Ella and she was suddenly pulled right against Adrian again. Their bodies clung to each other as he hoisted her up, bent down and kissed her deeply.
