Sighing and dragging herself, Ella entered her room.

"Where did you go?"

The voice froze in her tracks, her heart thundered in her ears suddenly.

And for a moment, her thoughts stilled.

The door was not locked from outside when she entered.

Just as the realization hit her, she spotted him, emerging from the darkness, striding towards her.

As the man stepped towards her, Ella instinctively took a few steps back until she felt the hard surface behind her.

Her back collided against the door.

Ella stepped to the side but a hand pressed on the door, right next to her body.

Ella moved to the right, and another palm slammed against the door.

In a few seconds, she was caged between two strong arms.

"Running off again?"

The man’s whisper by her ear brought a chill of the night, making her shiver slightly. Yet at the same time, a peculiar warmth crept in her body.

He was interrogating her. But, it... sounded slightly teasing? Slightly testing?

Ella almost slapped herself mentally for thinking in that direction regarding Adrian. How could he be doing anything other than interrogation right now?

When she did not respond, two long fingers hooked under her chin and lifted her face.

A cool forehead touched her own as the man lowered his body to her level.

In the next moment, Adrian stiffened. Two soft arms wrapped around his neck.

"I thought you were putting your trust in me?" Ella leaned closer.

All the breath was knocked out of her chest. At that moment, Adrian seemed the most vulnerable she had ever seen him.

In the next second, both Adrian and Ella froze, their gazes still locked onto each other.

Ella immediately grabbed his hand and pulled him towards her bed, "Or are you sick?"

Adrian looked at her silently.
