Regressor Instruction Manual-Chapter 1170. Army of the Forsaken Saint (1)
Chapter 1170. Army of the Forsaken Saint (1)
The moment I walked out while wearing the wreath of light...
[Mainstream Event: Monarch of Sunset’s Second Story—the Army of the Forsaken Saint has started.]
I heard a voice.
‘Second story?’
I finally understood how this mainstream event was going to go. Based on the situation, the first story was probably the dethronement of the Commander of the 21st Legion.
Since it was an incident that happened at a place that had nothing to do with the players of Rohen, then it wasn't strange that this one was the second story.
The first expedition team that went against Jo Hye-Jin was forced to retire before they could even do anything.
The operation to reclaim Saint Bell was certainly worthy of becoming a key chapter in Rohen’s history, but using a trash mob like Chalkis of Flesh and Gore as the second story of the mainstream event wasn’t good enough.
Obviously, the system also didn’t want to use a lower-ranking demon for the mainstream event.
In that sense, the system probably judged that the Army of the Forsaken Saint was fit to tie the grand stories together. It was like the first bridge that led to the mainstream event story—Monarch of Sunset.
‘Technically, it should be called the Army of the Forsaken One’s Saint.’
It was like she had gotten a new nickname upon receiving a new skill. Anyway, we had to cross this bridge properly. There could be another way around, but we had no idea what that was, so we had no choice but to go head-on.
Since this was a story recognized by the system, there were rewards. Since Rohen’s overall stats had to improve drastically, this was like a much-needed blessing from the heavens.
‘The harder it is, the bigger the reward.’
I thought the only thing we were going to get out of this was experience, as the monsters were all undead creatures, but it felt like a fitting reward was given at the right time.
‘It could also motivate them as well.’
No one here cared about rewards or increasing their stats like me. Right now, everyone was busy stopping the forsaken ones with their lives. For those driven by an unknown excitement, the key was that this fight was a mainstream event, and they were taking part in a battle worthy of a page in history.
“Stop them!”
“Stop them! Stop them in their tracks!”
“Come at me, you dead bastards!”
Thinking that the system was on the human’s side probably boosted their morale.
Although the system was completely neutral...
‘Humans tend to think that history and stories are centered around them.’
They obviously thought that the mainstream event, Monarch of Sunset, was their story.
The soldiers were clearly pumped up; the warriors spat and yelled with fury, while the archers aimed their bows at their targets. The battlefield seemed like it was intoxicated by the heat of the battle.
Of course, everyone was focused on a certain place.
“Let’s head out.”
They looked at the Flower and Fertility Familia with high expectations.
‘This kind of epic hero tale is always great.’
Their faces were saying that the familia was going to handle this, and it was the same look the Blue Guild had received countless times before.
Hyun-Sung always felt burdened whenever people looked at him that way, but that wasn’t the case for the Flower and Fertility Familia.
The members had pride in being the first familia to lead Rohen, and they also had faith in the Goddess of Flower and Fertility. They also trusted William, and the faces of the members as they looked at William was familiar to me.
After all, their expressions were the same as the members of the Blue Guild.
Based on my experience, people with that kind of mindset often performed miracles.
‘Miracle.’
I turned and saw the battlefield. It was filled with undead creatures, but there was a path for us to take.
The shortest route to reach Sun Hee-Young.
No one thought that we were trying to kill ourselves.
When William took a step forward, the members of the Flower and Fertility Familia took a step forward as well. The familia members squeezing through the narrow gap were filled with tension and excitement as they chopped off the heads of the forsaken ones.
“Don’t stop,” I ordered.
“Don’t stop!”
“Run!” I shouted.
“Keep running!”
“It’ll be dangerous if we get isolated. Move to the next coordinates,” I informed them.
“To the next location! Move to the next location!”
Blood splattered before me.
I heard the screams of the forsaken ones, but their attacks couldn't reach me.
“Flower Wind!”
Emilia, who was a famous Spirit Swordsman, cast buffs on us that increased our movement speed. Even though I only took a step forward, it felt like I took two to three steps forward. I wasn’t physically fit, so by the time I was out of breath, I really wanted to collapse to the ground, but I was sure the vanguards were having a harder time.
They were performing extreme physical labor by blocking the giant wave of undead monsters. They pushed the monsters back with their shields, and William would chop off their heads. My feet kept stepping on the corpses of the undead. I almost lost my footing because of the unpleasant squishy feeling, but Emilia kept me steady.
“Are you okay, Mr. Lee Ki-Young?” Emilia asked.
“Yes, I’m fine. We should hurry...” I answered.
“Okay.”
Everyone looked out for each other. The mages pushed the enemies back while scattering flower petals, and the priests continued casting their spells, afraid that their buffs would expire.
“Move forward,” I instructed.
“What? But... at the front—”
“Mr. Lee Ki-Young, the front!” William shouted.
‘These guys still lack faith.’
“Move forward! Don’t stop; move forward!” I yelled.
“What?”
‘These bastards.’
“William! Move forward!” I shouted.
“Okay!” William answered.
A giant, undead creature raised its shield and confronted us.
However, a giant sun descended toward it from somewhere.
“Cast a protection spell,” I ordered.
The explosion was so loud that we could get caught by it.
However, a barrier engulfed us, allowing us to charge into the smoke and the fire.
“Don’t breathe in the smoke!” I told them.
It was so hot that it felt like I was on fire. The humid air clung to my skin as if I were in a sauna. The smoke and the flames had obscured our vision, but we still managed to find the right path.
“Forward! Forward!” I shouted.
“Move!”
“Move! Move!”
Those who got out of the smoke gasped for air as if they were whales surfacing above the sea.
“Pwah!”
“Haaaaa!”
“How many more... haa... haa... more times are we going to do this?”
‘Shit, I really can’t run anymore.’
I couldn't remember the last time I ran this long without my wings.
“Are you okay, Mr. Lee Ki-Young?” William asked.
“Haa... haa... haa... haa... I-I’m okay,” I answered.
‘I’m not okay, damn it.’
The members of the Flower and Fertility Familia exchanged glances. They seemed to have judged that I couldn’t run any longer because Emilia grabbed and carried me.
“I... haa... haa... I can run as well,” I said.
‘Thanks. I was really at my limit.’
Overall, the rearguards looked pale; they had low stamina, after all. They probably weren’t suffering as much as me, but because of their jobs, I was sure they had never run like this before.
The lack of oxygen just now made it worse.
‘But the ride is really uncomfortable.’
'The members of my familia seem to be comfortable with carrying me, but this ride shakes too much.'
“A little more!” I shouted.
“A little more! Move it!”
“Don’t stop moving! Keep going!”
“Haa... haa... haa... haa...”
“Next coordinate! To the next coordinate!”
“Forward! Move forward!”
“Magic support!”
“Hold your breath! Hold your breath!”
“Haaaaap!”
“Pwaaaaah!”
‘We’re slowing down because of the rearguards.’
We were running while recovering just a tiny bit of our stamina, but the accumulated fatigue couldn't be relieved. The mages were stumbling with exhaustion on their faces. I was worried about the possibility of them being unable to cast more spells.
‘I think it’s best if we leave them behind.’
We needed to deal with the stragglers so the team wouldn't get isolated.
‘Just stay behind, guys.’
“Haa... haa... just leave me,” a member said.
‘Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about.’
“Leave this place to me... and go ahead!” they added. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
'Yeah, you can’t do anything without that kind of selflessness.'
“The Flower and Fertility Familia doesn’t leave their family members behind.”
However, these stubborn fools had just said that they wouldn't leave their family members behind. It was like they’d rather die here than abandon their family.
Obviously, I had to step in.
“Yes, they’re right. The Flower and Fertility Familia never abandons its family members.”
I really hoped my heartfelt line would change their minds, but this guy seemed like he really wanted to live. He was shedding tears of complicated emotions, but he didn’t tell us to leave him behind again.
‘Why did you tell us to leave you in the first place? Stop making me have expectations.’
I thought perhaps it would be better to slow down, but we couldn’t do that. When I looked back, I noticed that the forsaken ones had started climbing the walls. The soldiers were fighting desperately, but they were falling apart.
The walls built by the mages were constructed at the last minute, and unlike the forsaken ones, humans would eventually get exhausted.
Eventually, they would lose the strength to pull their bowstring, and their sword swings would slow down. The mages would also complain about how they were out of mana.
‘We can’t slow down.’
We had to save those troops no matter what and take them with us.
It’d be meaningless if only the Flower and Fertility Familia survived this.
‘Once this is over, they’ll prepare for a bit and charge into the Demon King of Sunset’s Castle.’
We couldn't sacrifice those meat shields for something like this.
At this point, the best choice was to push them into the Demon King's Castle and transform them into our meat shield once this event was done. I couldn’t help but feel nervous. After all, if things went wrong, we'd lose it all.
“Clear the path!” I shouted.
“Okay!”
“We’re almost there. We’re almost there!” I yelled.
It was a white lie.
“Haa... haa...”
“Ugh!”
“Hold on longer! Don’t stop!”
“We’re almost there!” I told them.
Another white lie...
“Yaaaaaaaaaah!”
“We’re really close! Keep moving!” I shouted.
However, the third time wasn't the charm, as I noticed them grumbling about how exhausted they were feeling. As expected, their formation started to collapse. Most of them were physically exhausted, and they had been trying to hold on by sheer willpower.
To make things worse, the vanguards looked really exhausted as well.
The situation at the walls was worse. Some parts of the wall were collapsing. Fortunately, the enemies’ goal wasn’t Saint Bell, and it wasn't our goal as well, which made the defense possible, but the players almost had no wall to stand on.
“Hold on! For Rohen! For Rohen!!!”
It was admirable how they shouted at the top of their lungs to lift everyone’s spirits, but they were no different from a scared dog barking its lungs out.
“We must protect it! For Rohen!”
“Don’t take a step back! Fight until the very end!”
“The 24th wall is coming down! Hurry up and move!”
‘Damn it.’
“For Rohen! For Rohen!!!”
‘This won’t do. We need to abandon the stragglers even if the Flower and Fertility Familia doesn’t abandon its family.’
Just as I had that thought, a forsaken one charged at a warrior busy catching his breath. He couldn’t really react because he was focused on the enemy on his left, and the party members who were supposed to back him up couldn’t help him either.
Just then, a giant Blood Golem got up and crushed the heads of the forsaken ones.
“Reinforcements! They’re here!”
It wasn’t just one. Blood Golems rose and confronted the forsaken ones blocking our path. I didn’t know who was providing support, but I had an idea about their identity, so there was no need for me to check.
“Arhendel... The reinforcements must be from Arhendel,” I said.
And that was when I heard a loud voice from the wall...
“S-S-Sora!!” Jung Ha-Yan screamed.
