Ning and Shara met Romus, the Necromancer, moments before he was to do his necromancy. They couldn't see his face properly in the lantern light, but he looked quite handsome, now that he wasn't missing part of his arm and the deathly look on his face.

His long hair was washed and cleaned and with the fresh set of clothes, he looked like he could woo any woman he wanted to. He was still young, barely in his late 20s.

"I do not remember much from when I was sick and wounded, as I was going in and out of consciousness. But I still remember you are the one I need to thank for keeping me alive until Miss Mari could heal me."

Ning smiled at the man. "You're welcome," he said. "I'm glad to see you're doing fine. Not just that, I'm glad I managed to save a necromancer."

"Yes," the man said. "And I am glad you didn't burn these corpses."

"I had planned on doing that," Ning said. "I thought we were going to haul the bodies over today and then burn them tomorrow morning. But it seems there is a reason why no one seemed worried about being around the corpses."

The man turned around to look at the nearly 50 different corpses that were still usable. "I'm sure we will have enough to burn if that is what you are after," the man said.

Then, he looked toward Shara and gave a slight bow. "You are the one who saved our people from being run over by killed the enemy General. You have my deepest regards, and my utmost apology that you had to do such a thing."

Shara blinked a few times and slowly nodded. "It's alright. They were after me anyway."

"Yes, I was told that," the man said. "Reaper, huh? I never knew such a thing even existed."

Shara raised an eyebrow. "You know?" she asked.

"Our leader told me," the man said. "Oh, don't worry. I will keep it a secret for now. I am told not to tell anyone else about it for now." frёewebηovel.cѳm

Shara felt relieved, although she wasn't sure if that was what she was supposed to be feeling right now.

"Anyway, I better get going. The longer we wait, the more the muscles harden in the corpses, and they lose their flexibility. It's better to do this immediately."

Ning gestured for the man to continue, and Romus went on ahead toward the two piles of corpses. One was corpses stacked on top of each other with no regard for respect. And the other pile was a few corpses, neatly stacked side by side.

They were the corpses of the people that they had lost. If their spirits were still around, they wanted to bring them here and release them afterward.

Romus took a deep breath that everyone could hear. He raised his two hands out to the side, palm facing downward. Then, with a voice that seemed to have a reverberation to it, he said a single word.

"COME!"

Spectral Pull was one of the two powers Necromancers had that they could use at any time. With Spectral Pull, they could pull a spirit belonging to the dead bodies before them from anywhere in a large radius, should they exist, and have them flow into their respective body.

As soon as Romus used Spectral Pull, Ning saw flickers of white light all around the area, a dozen different ones floating toward the corpses.

Ning focused on the spirits as they made their way back toward the corpses, seeing their true shape.

Each was a male figure, that looked quite strong and sturdy. They all seemed without thought as they were wandering aimlessly.

Mari stood to the side, her eyes suddenly glowing white. "So many of them," she said.

Ning turned to look at her and noticed her eyes. "Oh! You were a Spirit Channeler," he said. "You didn't mention it."

"Hmm? Oh yeah," Mari said. "It never came up in the conversation."

"Well, it's good to have a variety of Spirit Awakeners in the group," Ning said. "I am a Spirit Detective."

"I see," Mari said. "You know they used to call your kind Spirit Communicator early on. The name changed when 'detectives' started being a common thing."

"I think I read that somewhere," Ning said. "I'm glad they changed it."

They focused back on the necromancy where Romus placed the spirits into their respective dead bodies. It took a moment, and then the bodies began stirring, standing up.

The bodies from the pile dragged themselves outside and away from the other corpses before standing still.

Romus moved back and nodded as he looked at them.

"Everyone, sit!"

The now undead sat on the floor one by one, 10 on one side and 2 on the other.

Matthew walked toward the two and stood right before the two. The group all went silent at the same time, waiting for Matthew to speak.

"Good work, soldiers. You lost your life, but you did the job you swore to do," Matthew said. "Your work is done. Now, go rest in the afterlife."

He placed his hands on top of the two undead and began using his Spectral Soothing skill to calm the spirits. Since they weren't violent already, soothing them any further made it so that they felt satisfied with their current life entirely.

Romus waited for his leader's cue and let the spirits out of their body when he got it. The spirits that flew out were nearly invisible as they vanished away, gone from the world.

"They're gone," Mari said to the side. "No longer in this world."

Ning nodded. He looked around the surroundings and saw the few soldiers trying to keep their tears at bay. They cried for their comrades, their fellow soldiers, and their friends.

They had died, but they would not be forgotten.

"Prepare the funeral," Matthew said and soon dried timber was gathered in one place, creating a large pyre, within which they would say their final goodbye to the deceased.
