Chapter 25 - Tank a shot.

Shrrrr!

Like the cry of a dancing hawk.

The lightning followed her every movement, the blade an extension of her own body as she raced towards the box.

Orlando, fast enough to understand what was happening, reached out with his huge hands to grab Lucy before she could get anywhere near the box.

But even he wasn't foolish enough to stop the full force of a moving power storm.

Rethinking his steps, he hesitated and pulled his hand back, causing Lucy to grab the box and run back to Jared's side.

"Dammit."

Orlando uttered with a whisper, his fist clenched in anger as he contemplated storming over there to take it back.

Being a man of few words, he couldn't shout to let them understand his frustration, so instead, he looked at Olsen, already expecting some kind of reaction after Lucy stole the box.

Alas, Orlando was met with disappointment.

Olsen was barely awake, his face swollen and mouth barely closed.

"W...h? Are they... robbing us?" Olsen asked as he pointed.

To which Orlando nodded.

"Hey! No one steals from me! Give whatever you stole back!" Olsen shouted.

Meanwhile, Lucy had already safely torn open the box to release Kiara from the confines.

At first, Kiara was afraid, but her fear quickly faded when she saw Lucy.

"Lucy..." She called out, relief settling in her chest as the warm breeze around her settled on her rough skin. She was so thin that it was almost hard to imagine she ever ate anything throughout her stay at Ragoon village.

"Yes, Kiara, sorry we took so long, but you're free now, just a little more time, and you'll be back home," replied Lucy, as she used her hand to clear the woods away from them.

Still shocked and confused, Kiara turned her gaze to the left, where she could clearly see Jared, seated on the wood, his gaze filled with concentration.

Throughout the whole thing, Jared didn't once lose focus, he was locked in, eyes solely fixed on Olsen.

'He is here...' Kiara thought to herself.

Baam!

Olsen slammed his feet on the ground.

"What in the hell is happening?! Why are you taking my box from me...uhnnn?!" He yelled while still clearly being sober.

"I didn't take anything, you handed it over to me yourself. Don't you remember?" Jared said, both his hands locked together.

Of course, Orlando knew this was a lie and total bullshit.

As such, he wanted to interfere, to let Olsen know something weird was going on and that he was being played.

He was too late, Jared already dropped the gun.

"Right now, you probably don't understand what is going on. Because you are drunk..." Jared revealed with utmost seriousness.

"Drunk? Don't be silly, I don't get drunk... I can drink as much alcohol as I want and I still won't be affected, haha, look at this dude..."

"Yeah, that's what you think. How many fingers am I holding up right now?"

Jared raised three of his fingers, further up front so Olsen could see.

Not that it mattered.

Even with that effort, Olsen could see seven fingers, and even then it was very blurry.

He blinked several times, but his eyes were not in the mood to obey.

"W...hat the hell..." Olsen blurted out.

"Do you finally understand? You are drunk," Jared said as a fact, and he stood by it.

Olsen, now glaring at Jared, asked, "Drunk or not, I can still kill you for stealing from... steal...stealing from me."

"Let's play a game, Olsen," Jared began, "You pride yourself on your strength, so why not prove it right now, see who is truly stronger between the two of us."

"Oh? You are challenging me?"

"Yes, precisely. The winner gets to keep the box, and the loser will do whatever the winner wants. A good deal, do you not agree?"

Jared made a calm expression throughout, not once did his mask slip.

Lucy, who watched from the sideline, could only stand there, wondering why Jared would hope to challenge someone like Olsen of all people.

Even Kiara had the same thought, except she thought he was being stupid and playing a game he doesn't understand.

"If I win, you know I can take the watering hole from you without having to give you back your princess," Olsen saw this as a win.

"I know. All the more reason to play the game, no?"

"Okay. I'll bite. What is the game?" Olsen inquired.

[The god of information is confused by your ignorance.]

"It's simple really..."

Jared began to explain the rules of the game.

"We each pick someone from our side to play a shield, your shield can use whatever defenses they have in their arsenal, while we do the attacking. Any one of our shields to first fall or receive damage, loses."

The rules were simple as he had said beforehand, and everyone understood it.

[The god of information is now impressed, understanding where you are going with this.]

'Is he being serious? There's no way he thinks he can use any attack strong enough to harm Orlando of all people!' Kiara pondered in her mind, her eyes moving from left to right.

Olsen smiled, the smile of a man who knows he had already won.

"No need to ask questions. I can already see how this will end, and I'm drunk, mind you, but no one you bring from your village can tank my attack, not in a million years. Let's do it!"

He stood up from where he was sitting, staggering backwards multiple times before finding his footing.

"Orlando here will be my shield. Hurry up and pick, I don't have all the time...hahah..."

Orlando wasted no time and stood in front of his master, his form gigantic, with his shadow almost covering everyone.

Jared joined him and stood to his feet.

"And I pick, Lucy."

Hearing her name, Lucy flinched.

While she knew she had gotten stronger from what she was before, taking an attack from someone like Olsen and not receiving damage was a different issue.

And judging from the look on Jared's face, he didn't seem like he was joking either.
