Lucy could be seen walking back and forth in front of Jared’s room.

One hand on her neck while she bit the nails on the other.

"No! That’s not it! He’s not punishing me!!!" yelled Lucy almost instantly.

"Are you good? You’re acting kinda weird." Kiara leaned closer.

It was so intense that Lucy had to look away, trying her very best to avoid eye contact.

"It’s not what it looks like... you’re just overthinking it...."

"..."

"Anyway...where are you heading so late at night? With Lady Ria’s sniper, no less."

"Oh, this? Heheh, trying to get some practice in. Unlike you lot, I’m not strong, so hunting is all I have. If I practice more, the better I’ll get at it."

Lucy’s face dulled.

She remembered back then, when the scavengers attacked, Kiara helped in killing some of them with the sniper.

Kiara had never killed a human before.

The only reason Lucy was able to kill without any sort of regret was due to her upbringing. Fighting for survival was all she had ever known.

Kiara wasn’t the same; she never belonged in the north to begin with.

"Are you alright?" she asked.

"Uhn? With a sniper? Of course. Did you forget my aim is almost perfect?"

"No, that’s not what I mean." Lucy pointed at her own forehead, "Up here, do you feel... guilty, for killing those men at the hunting ground?"

The question was a direct bullseye, as seen with how Kiara’s expression changed. It was as if Lucy had reminded her of something she wanted buried.

"I’m sorry I made you do it. And I’m sorry I was ignorant about it too. As your friend, I should have—"

"Don’t make this some sorry tale, Lucy. I did it because I wanted to. Isn’t that what being a family is about? Showing up when needed. If anyone tries to hurt anyone from this village, I will definitely do the same thing again."

Kiara stretched, "And besides, I can’t have you always outperforming me. So don’t even worry about it; it’s not worth thinking about."

Kiara had always been like that, finding positivity in almost everything around her.

People like these were always the light that rubs off on others.

Smiling, Lucy uttered, "I’m glad then. Don’t let me stop you; carry on with your practice."

"Same to you."

Kiara carried the sniper back and began to walk away.

"Isn’t that sniper really loud? You’ll end up waking everyone up!!!" Lucy warned with a loud voice.

"Relax, Lady Ria gave me this round thing; it’s supposed to silence the sound. You worry too much."

Lucy sighed, ’That’s because you people make me worry.’

Just then, the door to Jared’s room suddenly opened.

"How long do you intend on staying outside?" There came Jared’s voice.

Lucy flinched before turning around to have a look at him.

Hearing his voice and the sound of the door was enough for her to tell he was already outside, watching her from the back.

And she was right.

Jared stood in front of the door, wearing blue pants with his shirt completely off.

Lucy’s jaw could have dropped from shock if it were allowed to.

Though she knew it had been a while since she had seen Jared shirtless, still...she didn’t expect him to look this attractive.

He had the right muscles everywhere; his hair was wet, allowing it to fall on his face while his pecs shone under the moonlight like he were the son of the sky.

In a single word, he was majestic.

"S..sorry ..I ..I just... spoke with...Kiara..."

She stammered, the embarrassment causing her to cover her face.

"I see. Quit standing out in the cold and come inside."

Inside? That sounded like she was walking into a lion’s den.

Gulping down her saliva, she began to take fast steps towards Jared’s room..
