Chapter 23 - VOLUME 2 Chapter 6: Tge Principal Arrives?
Chapter 6: The Principal Arrives?
The large hall buzzed like an overstuffed beehive.
Everywhere Hitoshi looked, groups of freshly arrived students had abandoned their formal airs in favor of gossiping like market vendors.
The whispers rose like a swelling tide. scattered voices filled with snickering and excited conversations continued on.
"Where's the principal? We've been waiting forever!" A random student in a 3 piece noble suit gnashed his fangs.
"Maybe something happened. Or maybe they're testing us?" A scholar like noblemen sitting next to him, replied
"I heard Count Yorutsuki's daughter is in our year. Can you believe it? The swordsman prodigy!" A female Fox-man in another part of the hall squealed.
"Pfft, big deal. Tsukishiro Sayaka's way cooler. They call her the 'Icy Genius.' Did you know she froze a full-grown wyvern at thirteen!" Her seatmate replied.
"Did you hear? They're saying a royal bloodline might be attending too! A real prince!" A girl sheep-beastman in another area of the hall admitted with a voice completely smitten.
"Seriously? This year's gonna be crazy..." a student who happened to hear her muttered.
The rumors swirled thicker and thicker, every new whisper stacking on top of the last until Hitoshi felt like he was sitting in a boiling pot about to spill over.
' Ughhh... ' He slumped back into his chair, arms crossed, cheeks puffed out with barely-contained irritation.
' Tch... Nobles are the worst, ' he grumbled internally. ' They're like kids fighting over candy. Noisy, nosy, and their heads are way too big for their necks. Bet half of 'em would faint if someone told 'em the cafeteria ran outta cake.' He grumbled.
After awhile, He tilted his head toward Aiko, expecting to find her eavesdropping with the rest.
' Huh?'
Instead, he found her propping her chin in one hand, elbow balanced elegantly on the armrest. Her crimson eyes were half-lidded, expression carved into perfect boredom, as if all the noise barely even existed to her.
Hitoshi blinked. ' She's not joining them?...'
For some reason, seeing her look like that irritated him even more.
' What, you're too good to even listen to the circus around you, huh?' he thought bitterly.

She caught his stare without even moving her head. A slow, lazy smile tugged at her lips.
"Staring again, puppy?" she teased, voice dripping with fake sweetness. "I'm starting to think you're obsessed with me."
Hitoshi didn't even flinch.
He just narrowed his eyes and, in the flattest, most savage tone a ten-year-old could muster, replied.
"Yeah, sure. I always stare at trash to remind myself what not to turn into."
' Huh?...' Aiko's smirk cracked the instant she heard his reply. She blinked, Once. Twice as if trying to process the quip she'd just heard. Her lips twitched like she wanted to reply. but no words came out.
For the first time, she was rendered speechless by the grumpy boy who now turned his head away with a victorious huff.
' Hah. Take that, Ojou-sama.' Hitoshi thought smugly.
Before she could recover enough to retaliate, something shifted.
A prickling sensation danced along the back of her neck but she wasn't the only one. Everyone within the orientation hall felt the same chilling sensation as if a cold blade was suddenly pressed against their napes.
Additionally. The air itself seemed to thicken, pressing down like an invisible hand.
Hitoshi jerked upright in his seat, instinctively clutching the sides of his chair.
From the center of the grand stage, the air ripped.
A jagged spacial rift tore open with a low shrrrrrk, dark and crackling at the edges like a tear in reality itself. The students gasped, conversations freezing mid-sentence as every head snapped toward the sudden phenomenon.
Through the swirling tear, a single figure stepped out.
His armor was blacker than pitch, matte and brutal, with sharp-edged plates that interlocked seamlessly across his towering frame. Crimson etchings ran along the lines of his armor like veins of living fire. His face was hidden behind a blank helmet, save for two faint slits that glowed an eerie, subdued red.
The rift behind him closed with an ear scratching sound after he stepped out.
For a long heartbeat, the figure simply stood there.
Motionless, his ominous presence chilling the hearts of most of the students in the venue.
Then, without warning. A wave of oppressive, heavy power spilled out from him.
It wasn't just magic. It was suffocating authority, raw and ancient. Something one could only attain after surviving thousands of bloody encounters.
The very floor seemed to groan under the weight of it. Every student in the hall instinctively stiffened. Some winced, others clutched the sides of their chairs, one or two even whimpered under their breath.
"Silence." The figure said while emitting his brutal pressure. His voice wasn't loud yet, it didn't need to be. Because the weight of that single word crashed over the audience like a collapsing mountain.
The hall which had quieted down a little after his arrival, turned as silent as a graveyard, except for the few groans of the students that struggled to withstand the pressure from his brutal aura.
Even the chandeliers seemed to dim slightly, their soft light flickering.
Only when the dark armoured figure disperse his aura did a few whispers start to emerge once more.
"Who... who is that?"
"Is he... the principal?"
"He's scary...!"
"I thought the principal was supposed to be a dragon.....just who is he."
From his seat, Hitoshi felt a bead of cold sweat trail down his spine.
' Are these idiots serious?!' he screamed inwardly. ' That guy could probably squish us all into pancakes with just his pinky finger, and they're here whispering like gossiping geese after he went to those lengths to silence them?!
He shrank into his seat, casting wary glances at the muttering students nearby.
' Spoiled, crazy noble brats... we're all gonna die because you can't keep your traps shut!'
Meanwhile, Aiko sat straight-backed beside him, her arms folded neatly across her chest, expression blank and unreadable—but Hitoshi who stole a glance at her, noticed the faintest tightening around her mouth.
Even she wasn't completely unaffected.
The figure on stage waited, as if watching and measuring the students.
' Could he be marking our faces for later?!' Hitoshi felt his heart skip a beat at the thought.
