Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 82: Sentient Zombies
Chapter 82: Chapter 82: Sentient Zombies
Taking a deep breath, she wrapped her arms around his waist as well. To be honest, the fight with the zombie had truly shaken her.
It wasn’t the kind of danger that she couldn’t handle if she was calm, but because it was her first time fighting with a zombie, it caught her off guard. Especially since it had been a sneak attack.
After a while, they let go of each other and looked around them. Apart from that zombie lying on the floor a few feet away, there wasn’t another one nearby. It looked like Lu Zhen’s trap had worked.
"This zombie was way more intelligent than others. It sneaked an attack on me from behind." Leng Pan commented as she moved towards the zombie.
"I did notice that some of the zombies, although in the minority, have evolved faster than the rest. I fought another one outside that had inhumane strength. If I hadn’t trained for a while and my fire ability was just regular, I might not have defeated it.
The strength from its punch could break bones if faced head on. After a few exchanges I had to light it up and burn it. But it helped me gauge my strength and also tested the limit of my fire ability." Lu Zhen added as he had also realized that there were different zombies among the multitudes.
"Let’s take the truck and go, but what about the bikes?" Leng Pan asked after thinking about their plans.
"I’ll go bring them here. You can put them away while we are in the shop so that no one sees you. Even if someone outside sees us bringing the bikes inside and don’t leave with them, they won’t know what happened." Lu Zhen volunteered and also expressed his sentiment.
"What if they come to check and don’t see the bikes?" Leng Pan was still worried about someone figuring something out.
"There are motorcycles for sale in this shop. If they were all burned, who could tell the difference? I’ll set them on fire when we leave." Lu Zhen of course wouldn’t take a chance with his wife’s safety, so he had already thought of a solution.
"Okay, let’s go bring them in together." Leng Pan thought that was a good idea and agreed.
"Can you ride?" Lu Zhen asked. The reason he had suggested bringing them in himself was because he was afraid she was too shaken to do something like riding.
However, if she could, he would be happier because honestly even though they had killed all the zombies they could see, he wasn’t entirely reassured about leaving her alone again.
"I can, let’s go. I was just surprised because it was my first fight. You don’t have to be so worried about me." Leng Pan replied as she pulled his hand and walked outside.
Soon, both motorcycles were inside the shop and finding a place that had an intact wall, they placed the bikes there and then Leng Pan put them back into the space.
After that they went to the crane and began removing the debris and cleared most of the roof and the truck at the back.
As soon as it was able to move they got inside with Lu Zhen driving and left the place heading to where the meteorite was.
On the way there they noticed that the number of zombies had reduced significantly. This didn’t seem like a result of Lu Zhen’s actions in the gas station.
Even though he had burned many zombies there, there weren’t more than a few dozen. But with the foot traffic in this area and the business owners here being such a big number, there was no way a simple burning could have reduced the number so much.
Moreover, when they came in earlier, there were a lot of zombies staggering around and others attempted to follow them when they heard the noise of the motorcycles and smelled the vitality in them.
However, it was as if this wasn’t the same street they were in before. Even though they could see zombies, compared to the number before, it was practically nothing.
"Where did all the zombies go?" Leng Pan couldn’t help but voice her thoughts.
Looking at the deserted streets, she started to become uneasy. Such a situation wasn’t normal. Something must have happened to cause it.
"I have no idea. But I have a feeling that it has something to do with that rock on the road." Lu Zhen said as he kept driving. He had also noticed the peculiarity of the situation too.
"Could you stop the truck for a moment?" Leng Pan suggested it when she heard that.
She had not forgotten about the feeling of fighting with dwindling power.
She had not recharged after the fight and probably Lu Zhen hadn’t either.
Lu Zhen listened to his wife and stopped the crane on the road and turned to look at her. He didn’t know why she had asked him to stop, but he stopped anyway.
"What is it, Baby?" He asked.
Leng Pan took out a bottle of water from the space and drank half of the water inside and gave the other half to Lu Zhen.
"Let’s recharge in case we have to fight again." She said with a smile.
She was no longer terrified because of the fight.
"Okay." Lu Zhen said as he took the water bottle and emptied it into his stomach.
The two sat silently in the truck as they meditated for ten minutes and recovered their strength to the peak.
After the fight, their superpower felt a little different. They couldn’t describe how but, it was different.
Once they had recovered, they continued to drive and when they arrived, they found the meteorite surrounded by zombies as if guarding it.
There were too many zombies there to count. Now they knew where the zombies they hadn’t seen had gone to.
Looking at those zombies, they didn’t know what to do with them or how to fight, but one thing was for sure, that meteorite was special and it could enhance the zombies’ growth.
If left alone, nobody knew how those zombies would evolve with its help and how that could affect the humans who had survived.
