The end of the demonic invasion was as abrupt as it was uneventful. While Sofia let her birds commit war crimes out of her sight, sipping on some hot tea, the event just ended.

[All demon lords have been slain, the demonic invasion was repelled!]

It had been less than half an hour since the death of the second demon lord, and it seemed another group had managed to get the third one down.

Did Happy Cloud do it? Or maybe Saria?

[EVENT: Last group standing - Demonic invasion, COMPLETE!]

Without more warning, the group was teleported back to their room, where they were now surrounded by all of Sofia’s skeleton birds.

“Well, that was fast,” Mornn said, the teacup still in her hand.

Sofia nodded, setting her own cup down on the table, “I just hope this didn’t cut out survival timer short…”

“Surely the trial would not be so porrly designed…” Kuli commented, “We will know soon. But at least the first place is ours.”

“One more,” Sofia said, “We’re all on a perfect streak so far.”

“Barely,” Mornn said with a sigh, “It really wasn’t easy to win the hunting event. If it was not for my experience fighting drakes to mine the ore for my swords I wouldn’t have stood a chance against Tartaros and your sister. Doubt I’ll be so lucky every time.”

“Nyeh, same here…” Kuli said, leaning back on her chair, “I only won against Xeros because I knew his tactics too well and managed to use them against him, it was lucky none of the other strong contenders picked the commander event.”

Everyone received a notification, the results were already in.

“Ah shit… They expected us to kill all three demon lords by ourselves for the maximum point?” Mornn complained, “That’s so unfair…”

“It looks like holding onto that demon’s mana heart was a good idea, at least,” Sofia said, but that does come up a bit short… As expected the point repartition is really top heavy… Sending the birds was almost useless even if makes for a funny point recap.”

“That’s to be expected,” Kuli said, “If not every shop would be empty of any uniques by now. I imagine usually the first place goes to fake trial takers so most people can’t even acces the shops to get the unique items, let alone have the point to buy them…”

“I can’t believe someone actually beat us in the historic records,” Sofia complained with a frown, “They’d have to kill all three demon Lords before anyone else and without losing a single team member… Maybe I should have killed all the fakes from the start to prevent them for stealing a lord.”

“Well… That wouldn’t have been so easy, you know. And do you really want to kill your own sister right from the start like this, even if she’s fake?” Mornn commented, “It’s too late now either way, lemme check the historical ranking, I have to admit I’m curious about the first place group.”

[Last group standing - Demonic invasion : Historic rankings]

[Rank 1- EA DELUX EDITION - 65 000 000 TP ]

[Rank 2- Eternal Lights - 38 487 019 TP ]

“What in Sun’s name–” Mornn cursed under her breath, “They have almost twice our score… These fuckers killed every single demon and got the bonus points thrice?”

“The group name is quite strange,” Kuli noted.

Sofia agreed that he name was weird, “I wonder if the person who got Historic second in my first wave event was from the group. Their name was Jewel of truth, I think, the timed score was also stupid, like under a second.”

“Maybe we could ask the Seraphs about the historic ranks,” Kuli suggested, “this one seems a bit strange, honestly… A perfect score like this–”

She was interrupted by a system notification.

‘You have received a new quest’

Wait, already?!

[Third wave: Individual Historic trials]

[For the third wave of tournament events, you must choose to compete in one of two historic individual events. In Historic events, you do not compete with other trial takers, but with their historic rankings. Gold star pins will be awarded to players ranking within the top 0.1%, Silver pins 0.5%, and Copper pins 1%]

[Available third wave events:

[Event: Fresh start at sea - Lost island]

[You are stranded on one of Gamma-b-13’s very peculiar magical islands without any of your magic or items, can you survive the natural disasters, the monsters and the island’s hidden dangers, and make it back to the Ark by yourself? Be wary, the sea is even more dangerous than the land.]

[Event: Unavoidable death - Awakening of the slumbering god]

[Cultists on Gamma-b-13 have awakened an immortal old god sleeping in the planet’s abyss. You are its target, and it will stop at nothing to get you. For how long can you defy a god’s will and survive? Only one thing is certain, you will die.]

Oh, it’s fully individual, so I guess there’s no need to wait for everyone to be done with the second wave…

Which one is the best…

“I will be going for the island,” Kuli announced first, “I can’t even fly, I don’t think the other event is for me…”

“Same here,” Mornn said after a bit, “I’m just not very fond of a fight I can’t win. And if it’s ‘a god of the abyss’, I’m expecting water-related attacks and stuff like that? Not my best matchup. What about you two?” she asked, as Sofia and Pareth were still silent.

“Hmm… I’m thinking in terms of points… How much do you think I would get for killing an immortal god?” Sofia asked, completely seriously.

“Sofia…” Kuli said, “I think you need to refresh your memory on the meaning of the word immortal…”

“It is not like I am unaware of the word’s meaning,” Sofia answered, “But need I remind you I finished the first timed trial with a negative timer? Sure the description says the thing is immortal and it says it will kill the trial taker no matter what… But what if?”

“Well I won’t stop you,” Kuli said, “Getting a gold pin should not be too hard for you anyway, seeing how hard you are to kill.”

“True that. And I will have Pareth with me, so. Should help a lot.”

After taking a few more minutes to relax, the group started their new event. Sofia was particularly eager, hoping that despite the underwhelming results of the demonic invasion event, she would still be able to buy her third specialization point that very same day.

All she needed to do was to perform well in the historic trial.

Upon accepting the trial’s teleportation, Sofia, Pareth, Pestle and Bookie found themselves on an island’s sandy beach. The sun was shining high above their heads, the ocean was calm and the palm trees behind them swung lightly in the salty breeze.

“Bookie,” Sofia said, looking at the sun above with a wide smile, “It’s no exaggeration to say… It’s your time to shine.”

“Immortal against immortal!” Bookie rejoiced, throwing his hands in the air.

“Pesle kill god. Very leg,” the fairy on his shoulder confidently said.

Despite the sun in the sky technically not being Sun’s sun, at this moment, her blessing worked anyway, so Bookie and Pestle shone with a golden hue under the light, making them completely immune to damage.

“Be careful still, this only works while you stay in the sun, Pestle,” Sofia warned, “If you dive into the god’s body like you tend to do, it will no longer work.”

“Pesle know!” The fairy indignantly said.

“Alright, alright. We’re all good then. Now where’s that ‘god’?”

Sofia extended her mana senses as far as she could, scanning the sea first. She expected that the god of the abyss would come from there, but she could not even come close to reaching the bottom with her mana and found nothing of interest, so she turned to scanning the island instead.

Rather large volcanic island, I can’t cover all the way to the other side…

Are these pointy things like huts? A village? It’s on the far end so it’s a bit blurry… I don’t feel the presence of anyone though… Unless the people there have no mana at all, the village should be empty.

“I found something,” sofia told the skeletons, though it was entirely useless as she was already broadcasting her thoughts to all of them at the moment, “let’s go check it out.”
