Chapter 74: Chapter 74: His Explanation
Chapter 74 -74: His Explanation
When she got back home, it was already past 10 pm. After taking a shower, Carolline was in bed around 11 pm, planning to sleep since she had to work the next day. Despite feeling exhausted, she kept tossing and turning in her bed, unable to fall asleep. For some reason, the image of Matilda holding onto Bryan’s arm kept popping up in her mind.
There was also Matilda’s arrogant gaze, which made her feel uncomfortable. Of course, she didn’t think Matilda’s display had any significance for her, but why would Bryan allow Matilda to be close to him at this time?
What bothered her was this, not Matilda herself.
After more tossing and turning, Carolline still couldn’t sleep. Sitting up in bed, she looked out the window at the bright moon and wondered what the date was. The moon was so bright and round tonight.
Just then, Carolline’s phone rang. She didn’t expect anyone to call her at this hour, so she checked the caller ID and was surprised to see it was Bryan’s number.
At this moment, her heart started to tremble, and her fingers followed suit.
Nevertheless, Carolline answered Bryan’s call immediately. “Hello? Why are you still awake so late?” she asked.
“…” Bryan couldn’t help but smile at her words. “Aren’t you also still awake? How come? Did you just get home?”
“Yes, I got home a bit late today.” Carolline naturally wouldn’t admit that she had been home early and couldn’t sleep due to insomnia. “What about you? Are you still busy?”
“Mhm, I’m in the office. I plan to make do and stay here tonight.” Bryan gazed at the starry night outside the window, hesitating for a long time before making this call.
After leaving Carolline’s house dinner party, Bryan had dealt with a few matters, and Matilda naturally kept questioning him. Even though he had skillfully diverted the topic away from Carolline, he knew Matilda wouldn’t believe him.
Initially, Matilda liked to bring up Carolline even when he didn’t have a deep impression of her. Now, he didn’t want Matilda to know about his relationship with Carolline. It wasn’t that he was afraid of Matilda but that he didn’t want Carolline’s life to be influenced by him in any way.
“Ah?” Carolline couldn’t imagine Bryan staying in a small office. Of course, she didn’t realize that Bryan’s office was nothing like she imagined and assumed that all offices would be cramped.
“‘Ah’ what? Don’t worry about me.” Bryan could tell she was concerned, making Carolline immediately blush. Soon, his deep voice spoke again, “Matilda and I have no issues. The reason I appeared with her at the hotel tonight is because…”

“You don’t have to explain. I understand everything,” Carolline interrupted before he could finish. His words about how he and Matilda were fine were enough to make her feel better, and her worries vanished. She knew things wouldn’t be as she had imagined, and now that Bryan had said it himself, she believed him even more. “I trust you.”
“Yeah, you’re a good girl. However, I’ll probably be encountering Matilda at many public events, unavoidably. I plan to open a rural-style restaurant, tentatively named Apricoom Building. Camelia told you as well that I’ll be publicly looking for celebrities’ endorsements. She signed up and passed the preliminary test.” Bryan told her everything.
Matilda’s popularity and capabilities were hard to ignore, and her probability of winning the contest was high. Bryan even planned to help her win without anyone noticing.
“Mhm, I understand and won’t blame you. It’s your job,” Carolline replied almost instantly. Bryan telling her this showed respect and understanding, so why shouldn’t she trust him?
“Then get some sleep and don’t think too much. Anything you don’t understand, just ask me. You have the right to, okay?” Bryan spoke gently.
“…” Carolline was speechless. It seemed that nothing could be hidden from him. In the end, she softly responded, “Mhm.”
Actually, Carolline didn’t even hear his last words. The moment he told her not to think too much, she was already embarrassed and couldn’t bear it.
“Go to bed early. Good night.” Bryan spoke gently, realizing that it was already late, and she should sleep.
“Good night,” Carolline reluctantly hung up the phone.
With her worries gone, she quickly fell asleep and slept very well.
The next day, Carolline went to work in high spirits. As a nurse in the surgical department, she was incredibly busy.
From 8 am until 11:30 am, Carolline finally had a breather. She went to the restroom and got a cup of water to drink. Avery Graham came over from another ward, looking tired, but her face lit up when she saw Carolline.
“Carolline, how was your vacation? Did you enjoy it?” Avery hadn’t taken a vacation for Mid-Autumn or National Day, but after finishing work today, she would be off for three days and had a prearranged blind date. Just thinking about it exhausted her.
The last time she had a blind date, she didn’t even go. She felt young and didn’t want to date, and she still wanted to work under Henry Ruiz and learn from him.
“It was alright. You’re off for three days starting tomorrow, right? I’m envious.” Carolline had swapped shifts with Avery, and since they were around the same age, Avery was willing to trade with her.
“I’d rather not take those days if it meant going on this blind date arranged by my mom,” Avery shook her head. “By the way, have you seen the G City Pass news?”
When Carolline heard about the blind date, she empathized with Avery. Her last blind date had been a misunderstanding and shouldn’t have been with Bryan, but fate and chance led them to actually get married.
“I haven’t had the chance yet, is there any big news?” On weekdays, Carolline used her phone to check the news, often perusing G City Pass since the news there was more relevant to her life.
“Not big news, just that the drunk man who harassed you last time was beaten up in the detention center and can no longer function as a human being.” As a medical staff member, Avery was familiar with human anatomy, so she didn’t feel embarrassed discussing these matters.
Carolline’s eyes widened, and for a moment, she had no reaction.
