Secret World of Occultists-Chapter 47: Mirror World
Chapter 47: Mirror World
Abel felt like his head had passed through a soft membrane.
A mysterious, cold feeling brushed against his face when his head passed through the mirror.
He slowly opened his eyes, his heart gripped by anticipation as well as traces of nervousness.
The sight that greeted him left him stunned!
"So this... is the world beyond the mirror!" He muttered in amazement.
This place was exactly like his bedroom, except...
"Wait a minute." He frowned. "Something doesn’t feel right."
He immediately pulled his head back, going through the same feeling of passing through a mystical membrane.
Now, back in the real world, Abel saw that the surface of the mirror was gently rippling outwards. It continued for a second or two before the surface regained its normalcy.
He turned around and looked at his bedroom—carefully looked at it.
To his right, which was east, there was the window. And beside the window, to the right was the washstand with a ceramic basin and a pitcher.
Directly in front of him, which was north, was where his single-frame bed was placed, positioned next to the wall.
To his left, which was west, was the wooden cupboard—also positioned against the wall. Lastly, the door to his bedroom was to his left, meaning the entrance to his room was south-facing.
Abel carefully observed the layout of his room, taking in every small detail. Almost a minute later, he finally turned around and pushed his head through the mirror once again.
The same magical feeling of putting his head through water washed over him.
He opened his eyes and looked at the world beyond the mirror. It was a replica of his bedroom.
Except...
"As I thought," the youth murmured, looking around the room in fascination. "Everything is reversed!"
He then looked up at the ceiling, and then down at the floor. "Hmm, except up and down, everything else is turned the other way around. The Left is right, and the front is back. How very interesting!"
Abel turned to his right, where the door to his bedroom was, and couldn’t help but frown. "Wait, why is it..."
He pulled his head back again—back in the real world now—and looked at his door.
It was wide open.
He put his head back again inside the mirror and turned to look toward the door.
It was shut!
"How is that possible?" He muttered under his breath, quite stunned by his findings.
"Everything in this world is supposed to be a replica of the real world, then how come the door is shut?" He mumured, looking intently at the shut wooden door.
Needless to say, his curiosity was immensely peaked.
He continued to look around the room, noticing the tiniest of details. Except for the fact that the door was shut, and that left and right, and front and back were reversed, everything was the same.
No, there was one other difference!
Abel’s gaze landed on the window on the left. His eyes narrowed because the scene outside the window was pitch black!
Once again, he pulled his head back out of the mirror and turned to his window in the real world. It was bright and sunny outside as it was still afternoon.
He started to stroke the light stubble on his chin, thinking out loud, "How strange. Inside the mirror, the door is shut, and the scenery outside the window is dark. But here..."
The youth stood there for a long time, thinking just what could lay beyond the door inside the mirror world.
In the end, curiosity got the best of him.
He looked at the mirror, his eyes blazing with the fire of adventure. He noticed that the mirror was just large enough for his entire body to pass through.
"Eh, fuck it!" He removed his coat and tossed it aside. Then, he rolled his sleeves up to his elbow and finally stepped forward.
He then put his right hand through the mirror, finding support on the wall on the other side. Then, he put his left hand in. Finally, he pushed his head inside.
The youth pressed his feet against the ground, and within a few moments, his entire body had passed through the mirror.
An eerie silence descended in his bedroom. The surface of the mirror rippled outwards for a few moments before it returned to normal.
...
In the mirror world, Abel found himself awkwardly landing on the floor of his bedroom. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
"Ugh!" He grimaced. "Note to self, gravity seems to work the same way it does in the real world."
He dusted his waistcoat and his trousers and got to his feet. Looking around, he took a deep breath and exhaled.
I don’t know where the supply of oxygen is coming from, but I’m able to breathe just fine, he thought.
He turned to his left and walked towards the window. Everything was pitch black outside. For some reason, the back of his hair stood on ends when he gazed at the blank nothingness outisde.
"What’s out there?" He muttered under his breath, subconsciouly taking a step back.
His gaze was drawn to the washstand by the window. He stepped forward and grabbed the basin on top, trying to move it.
Much to his surprise, he found that he was unable to.
"Could it be..." he thought of a possibility.
He then walked to his bed and tried to move it as well. But same result. Then, he walked toward his wooden cupboard and tried to do the same. Again, nothing.
"I see." He nodded to himself. "Objects are immovable in the mirror world, but perhaps... if I move them in the real world, they’ll shift in this world too?"
The youth looked around his bedroom and added, "If it’s a replica of the real world, then that would also explain the source of light in here despite it being pitch-black outside the window and no lamps or candles lit inside the room... But why is black outside? Strange."
He had to confirm his speculations when he later visited the place after night had fallen in the real world.
"For now..." He looked at the entrance to the bedroom. "Let’s see what lies beyond the door!"
With bated breaths but steady steps, he walked towards the door. He placed his hand on the doorknob and twisted it.
Unlike the other objects in the room, the doorknob moved easily the moment he applied force!
Great! This means I can open the door, he thought excitedly.
Then, he finally pulled the door open.
CREAK!
A gust of wind blew from the otherside of the door, sending chills down Abel’s spine.
As he fully opened the door, he saw that the region outside was a pitch-black nothingness just like the scenery outside the window.
His heartbeat sped up as he gazed into the dark abyss.
He couldn’t help but loudly gulp, thinking to himself, Just what is this place?!
It was so dark that he wasn’t able to see anything, even if it was right in front of him.
The light from his bedroom also didn’t spill outwards, almost as if the light was scared to venture into the unknown.
Abel’s breathing became shaky the longer he looked into the darkness. He lowered his head, gazing downward.
He gulped again, lifted his foot, and took a step forward.
But at the last moment, he hesitated, quickly pulling his foot back and slamming the door shut. His knees buckled and he collapsed onto the floor.
Unbeknownst to him, his back was drenched in a layer of cold sweat.
"Fuck!" He cursed out loud. "What the fuck was that feeling!"
Although it was completely dark outsidde the door and he couldn’t see anything, he felt it deep in his heart.
Something was there...
Something in the darkness was looking back at him!
