Chapter 108: Chapter 108

- KILLIAN -

Someone knocks on my door. I look up. I really hope it’s not one of the professors or school staff. Worst case scenario, it’s Lorelai. freeweɓnøvel.com

“Come in.”

Someone pushes the door forward gently and a figure pops out from the side sheepishly. She finally lets her full body to my sight and I sigh with relief. Since when did she have to knock?

“Goodness, Hazel,” I stand up from my seat behind my desk to go to her. A hand stops me from closing in with a hug when I meet her from the door.

Hazel pushes the door close with her other hand and takes a step back from me. Her head is faced down to the floor. “Please, no.” She murmurs under her breath.

Ouch. That hurt. She doesn’t want me to touch her?

I put my hands behind me, locking my fingers together and take a step back. I’m trying to hide the hurt look reflecting off my face.

“Are you okay?” I ask suavely, lowering my gaze to look at her. She’s not returning my gaze. I swallow the lump that formed in my throat. A few minutes ago, she was sat with Asami and now she doesn’t want me to touch her. I’m trying hard to not let my thoughts waver to the worst outcome yet. “Hazel, look at me.” My voice is warm. I’m trying to come of as caring and concerned as I can, which I am.

Her face shoots up to look at me. What’s striking about her gaze is, it’s not anger written across her face but fear and disdain. As water forms at the corners of her eyes, I feel my eyes shatter slowly.

Did I cause this?

“Oh God, kitten what’s wron-“ I take a step forward with my hands stretched out to comfort her but she takes a leap backwards. Hazel shakes her head.

A sob trails out her lips after. “Don’t.” She gasps, fanning her face with her fingers. “Please, I don’t know who’s watching.”

My jaw tightens. My girl’s sad and I can’t even comfort her because of the demon school? I will send my resignation letter if I must just to be able to hold her. I’ve come far off with my private investigation and I don’t need this school as a back up anymore, yes I didn’t find the child(ren) of the murderers but that can wait.

Let me fucking hold you, please. My chest is burning with guilt and I don’t even know what’s wrong.

“Tell me what’s wrong? Let me sort it out and end your misery.” I say. I want to understand her. The only time I’ve seen her feeble was in the pool. I never want to be the reason she cries again. “Did I do something wrong?” I ask, concern etched at the back of my tone.

Hazel’s silent.

“Please talk to me.”

“The whole school knows!” She blurts out. Her voice is cracked. What does she mean by ‘the whole school knows’, know about what? “Or are about to anyway.” She quickly adds after a long, painful gulp. Her eyes meets mine. “Killian somebody uploaded our photo of us being intimate yesterday on the school blog and set it for everyone on campus to see.” Her palm meets her forehead as she wipes the tears rolling down her face with her other hand. Even from here, I can see her body quivering. “Killian I-“ Her words fumble. “I’m scared.” She shut her eyes briefly, still panicking in front of me. I just want to pull her for a hug and let her know it’ll be okay.

I will take care of it as long as I get my hand on that blog.

“Can I touch you?” I ask. She turns to look at me. My hands are still behind me.

“Not in school premises.” Hazel mutters. Her words are almost unheard. “But yes please.” She gushes.

I pull her in for a tight hug, keeping my arms wrapped around her slender back. “It’ll be okay.” I say, running a hand up and down her head to her neck, slowly. Her small fingers clutch into my skin.

“I heard there might be a thing like an expulsion.” Hazel subs. “I can’t risk being expelled. . . . My. . . Parents are going t. . . to kill me. No Ivy League will accept me with a bad record. Then there’s Kate and I can’t-“ Her voice melts into a whisper. She gasps. “I can’t ruin my life before it’s even begun. I just can’t.”

I clutch into her tighter. Liam was right. All this time, I thought the only risk I was putting her in was getting involved in my world, but my selfish self didn’t one day think about what would happen to her if we were caught. It won’t just be a student-teacher relationship but an affair considering the fact that I’m engaged. I won’t be the cause of her ruin.

“I promise to kill the story.” I say to her. “Just give me a few days and everything will go back to normal. It’ll be fine.”

“What about the rumours? People talk.” I can feel the wetness of my clothes due to her tears. What have I done? I should’ve been more careful.

“I’ll give them something new to talk about. Please don’t cry.” I say to her. Hazel shifts her head off my chest and looks up to face me. I raise my thumb and stoke underneath her eyes and cheek, cleaning her tears. “You have my word. Everything will be okay.” She sinks back into my body, holding me tightly.

I let my hands rest on her skin. “It’ll be fine.” I reassure, I need those words to sink in . It has to be.

“I hate that this will be our last time being together in public.” Not necessarily in public, but I get what she means.

“We’ll work something out. In the mean time, my home is always open for you and feel free to get comfortable in your dorm.”

“God no. Those girls will be bolting about it being me. They know.”

“Hm.” I say. There’s not much to say about that statement.

“Can I bring someone over? Sometimes?”

A smile forms on my lips. That will only rise the rumours for non-secrecy. “Anyone you want.” I say. “But ensure it’s someone you trust. Who isn’t a blabber mouth.”

“She’s not.” Hazel sobs.

“Then I have no objections.”

“Thank you.” She murmur, still resting on my skin.

“Anything for you to be okay.”
