Snowstorm: I'm Super Rich in the Apocalypse-Chapter 136 - Someone Has Gone Mad
Chapter 136: Chapter 136 Someone Has Gone Mad
Chapter 136 -136 Someone Has Gone Mad
Apocalyptic madness wasn’t rare because too many people went insane due to the psychological torment they couldn’t bear.
Most people were adapted to living in a stable environment, having grown up in a time of peace, so the advent of the apocalypse caused many with weak psychological endurance, who had no one to confide in or rely on, to develop mental issues. This was one of the reasons Gu Pan hadn’t survived alone in her previous life.
Previously, Huihui’s mother thought of making her daughter Lu Ruisheng’s concubine, which wasn’t a normal mother’s decision. Huihui’s father had recently died in an accident while scavenging for supplies, and with not enough food to eat, it seemed almost reasonable for a female college student to lose her mind under such circumstances.
While running, Huihui would yell that she was going to be late for school, probably a university student before the apocalypse. If not for the end of the world, she would have been enjoying the best years of her life.
Gu Pan sighed, realizing that now was not the time for sympathy, because everyone was in the same predicament. In the apocalypse, no one was pitiable; it was just expressed in different forms, with many afraid even to sleep soundly.
Of course, that didn’t include antisocial individuals, some of whom even felt grateful for the apocalypse, which allowed them to blatantly disregard the rules and even kill at will.
At that moment, Huihui’s mother chased after her. Seeing Gu Pan, she stopped with resentful eyes and said, “Are you satisfied now? You could have let our family live a good life, but you were so cruel and malicious, driving us to this state. My husband died in an accident while searching for supplies, and now my daughter has gone mad. Are you happy?”
She hated Gu Pan deeply. If they had taken in Huihui, then Huihui’s father might not have died while scavenging, Huihui wouldn’t have gone mad, and they would have had food and drink.
Gu Pan looked at the woman with a haggard and emaciated face and chuckled coldly, “We have no connection with each other; I have no obligation to help you. If you can’t survive on your own, that’s your problem, not mine.”
Huihui’s mother, finally finding an outlet for her anger, didn’t know how she had made it through the past days. At last, it seemed she could blame someone for all her misfortunes.
Her eyes were menacing, her expression twisted as she viciously addressed Gu Pan, “How is it irrelevant to you? If you had allowed your husband to take my daughter in, how could it have come to this? If something happens to my daughter, you’re a murderer.”
Before Gu Pan could retort, Lu Ruisheng couldn’t hold back and, furrowing his eyebrows, spoke up, “I don’t like your daughter. I have a legal and loving wife. Why should I take your daughter? When your husband was alive, why didn’t I see you offering him concubines? Your daughter’s well-being is your family’s matter; what does it have to do with my wife and me?”
Huihui’s mother, gasping with anger, questioned, “Why can’t you share some of your supplies? Just a little from your fingertips would be enough for us to live on.”
Gu Pan simply stated, “Because we have no relation with you, no such obligation.”
Although Huihui’s mother knew that people could choose not to share their things with others, she thought that if only she didn’t know, she could let it pass. But her home was right next to them; they saw it. How could they remain so heartless?
She said, “Saving a life is more virtuous than building a seven-tiered pagoda. Don’t you have any sense of public morality?”
Gu Pan replied, “It’s the apocalypse now. Who doesn’t need their supplies to save their own life? People like you deserve your plight. Oh, and by the way, I’m still pretty kind to remind you, if you don’t go after her now, you might not find your daughter again.”
With Huihui as her only family left, her mother had no choice but to chase after her, cursing Gu Pan countless times in her heart.
Gu Pan wasn’t bothered. There were plenty who couldn’t survive nowadays. If she had to take care of everyone, she wouldn’t make it either.
Duan Shumei approached Gu Pan, “People like her are bound to be eliminated in the apocalypse. They still don’t realize where the problem lies. Surviving up to this point is already lucky.”
Gu Pan agreed, “Indeed, if they hadn’t had money to stay here, with that kind of mentality, they would have been eliminated first.”
“It’s good that we all have brains,” Lu Xuerong added.
Gu Pan nodded, “Exactly. It’s getting late; let’s hurry back and sleep. Wasting time on her isn’t worth it; we have a lot to do in the next few days.”
So everyone continued on their way back. To them, this kind of incident didn’t make much impact; at most, it prompted a few reflections.
When they returned to the gate, Squad Leader Fang and Fang Lanlan arrived. Now that Fang Lanlan had more interaction with them, she was no longer afraid and even her social anxiety eased, as it wasn’t an ingrained trait.
Seeing them, Gu Pan knew they must be there about the base. Everyone went together to the meeting room at Cheng Yang’s place to discuss this matter.
Once they sat down inside, Cheng Yang offered them water.
Squad Leader Fang began to speak about the situation at the base, “I heard the broadcast too. I suppose you’ve already started preparing. I was wondering if there was anything we could help with.”
Lu Ruisheng said, “Actually, we’re pretty well-prepared. We’ve been out looking for suitable vehicles. We found two today, already had one, and we’re looking for one or two more to be sure. It’s better to drive several vehicles in case one breaks down en route, so we have backups.”
Squad Leader Fang understood, “I’ve hidden two cars, originally planned for emergency escapes. I’ll bring them back tonight, so you won’t have to look further.”

This was unexpected, but the cars couldn’t be brought back just yet. Gu Pan inquired, “Squad Leader Fang, are the cars far? It’s inconvenient to bring them back now. If they’re in a safe place, we can just leave them there until it’s time to go.”
Squad Leader Fang assured, “They’re safe. I prepared right after the outbreak and even kept a bit of gasoline at home. I check every three days, and it’s always secure.”
Lu Ruisheng decided, “Alright, then we’ll get them when we leave.”
After the main discussion, Cheng Yang and Chen Lang showed Fang Lanlan around.
Lu Ruisheng and Squad Leader Fang discussed marching plans. This journey was much like a military march, and as former soldiers, they had more insights.
It was morning before everyone went home. Still, they continued to listen to the broadcast for more information about the base, though they learned nothing new.
Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng went to bed around eight in the morning and didn’t wake up until the evening. Upon waking, they kept tuning the radio for news.
Like the day before, there wasn’t much news, just the usual messages; they would have to wait for specific information in two days.
For the next couple of days, Gu Pan and the others didn’t plan to go out, as the car issue had been resolved. Squad Leader Fang checked his vehicles; all were there and in working order.
