Snowstorm: I'm Super Rich in the Apocalypse-Chapter 161 - Thats it
Chapter 161: Chapter 161: That’s it?
Chapter 161 -161: That’s it?
Gu Pan looked at her and laughed, “Are you okay? Are there wild chickens on the base? If we stole one, could we strut around the base with it in plain sight? Do you have water in your brain?”
Song Xiner knew the other person was right, but she genuinely couldn’t figure out how they had gotten the chicken. Her health was poor, and her father had begged so many people just to get her chicken twice for soup—never a whole one, but just a carcass or a chicken leg.
But these two had only been here for a few days, and now they were carrying a wild chicken. How could she not feel envious and jealous?
She also knew they hadn’t stolen it; no one would parade around so openly with stolen goods.
She confronted Gu Pan, “Even if you didn’t steal it, you must have used some other trick. This base is not the place for your crooked schemes. How did you get this chicken? Did you pull some strings? Did you do something improper?”
Gu Pan just laughed at her accusation, “Sister, you’re always scheming behind people’s backs, abusing your power, and bullying us ordinary citizens. Now you want to appear fair? Not even a hypocritical dog is as two-faced as you. Are you renowned for your double standards?”
Song Xiner’s face turned bright red as Gu Pan berated her, pointing at Gu Pan, “You, how dare you insult me? Let me tell you, crossing me won’t do you any good.”
Gu Pan still smiled, “What can you do if we offend you? Haven’t you already given a heads up to the employment center to make things difficult for us at work? And then what?”
Song Xiner, fuming with clenched fists, had indeed gone to the employment center. She had found out their names and, of course, that they had chosen the occupation of Scavenger, which allowed them freedom.
Truth be told, she thought anyone would be silly not to choose that job; even in her mind, it was a very low-end job. Scavenger, wasn’t that just another word for picking up trash?
She was clueless about the true significance of the Scavenger role. To her, this was the worst job based only on superficial appearances.
So, before, she thought she had them tightly in her grasp and that eventually they would come pleading and apologizing to her.
But who would have thought they would voluntarily choose the Scavenger occupation? No, Scavengers could leave the base, so did that mean they had gone hunting?
Thinking about it comforted Song Xiner a bit, “Did you go hunting? All for just one chicken? Can one chicken even be exchanged for two contribution points?”
In the base, meat was generally priced by weight, without detailed classification due to its recent establishment, recruitment, and many areas still undergoing adjustments. Thus, all meat was bought at a uniform price. And honestly, large livestock could be sold in the market, while these wild chickens seldom made it there, with only a few people knowing where they went.
Gu Pan didn’t want to say more to her, “What’s it to you? It’s not like you can eat it anyway.”
Song Xiner’s expression regained its arrogance, taking out five contribution points from her bag, “I’ll buy that chicken from you for five contribution points.”
Gu Pan looked at Song Xiner as if she were an idiot, “Did I say I was selling?”
Song Xiner let out a cold laugh and took out two more contribution points, “Seven, isn’t that enough? Don’t be too greedy.”
Even Lu Ruisheng couldn’t help but laugh, “How can you tell we’re in need of your measly sum? Are your eyes there just for decoration?”
Gu Pan also couldn’t contain her laughter, admiring her husband’s improving skills at throwing shade.
Song Xiner looked down on them, “You just want more money, don’t you? Then name your price.”
Gu Pan had had enough, turning to Lu Ruisheng, “Let’s go home. Talking too much to a fool might make us foolish.”
At Gu Pan’s words, Song Xiner, flushed and choking with rage, blocked their path, “What do you mean by that?”
Gu Pan frowned and said, “To say you’re stupid, you’re not so stupid that you can’t understand this, right? If so, you’re truly hopelessly stupid.”
Having said that, she looped her arm through Lu Ruisheng’s: “Husband, let’s go home.”
Lu Ruisheng walked with his wife in the direction of the car.

But as they approached the car door, Song Xiner caught up again, pressing her hand against it: “You can’t leave.”
Gu Pan looked at her, her gaze icy: “Aren’t you finished yet?”
Song Xiner said, “If you sell the chicken to me this time, I won’t hold the previous incident against you.”
Gu Pan asked her, “Wasn’t the previous incident your fault?”
Song Xiner said, “Fine, even if it was my fault, okay? Can you sell the chicken to me now?”
Gu Pan looked at Song Xiner like she was braindead: “Like hell it matters if you admit it’s your fault. Did a donkey kick your head? And this is how you ask for a favor?”
At that moment, spectators began to gather.
Seeing the onlookers, Song Xiner immediately switched faces, looking pitifully at Gu Pan: “I really just want to buy your chicken. I was once injured outside the base, and my health has been poor ever since. I need to replenish my nutrition. I genuinely want to buy the chicken you hunted. Can’t you show some compassion?”
Now, the crowd looking on began to discuss the matter, some feeling pity for Song Xiner.
Gu Pan wouldn’t be held hostage by her moral posturing, retorting, “Who at the base isn’t lacking in nutrition? Who doesn’t want to eat a bit more meat? Why shouldn’t we use what we’ve hunted with our own abilities to nourish ourselves?” Gu Pan knew all too well these manipulative tactics.
Hearing Gu Pan’s words, the onlookers felt that she wasn’t wrong; their own possessions didn’t have to be sold if they didn’t want to.
Tears forming in her eyes, Song Xiner said to Gu Pan, “You, with your healthy appearances, obviously have never suffered from hunger. You can’t understand the difficulties of those of us who have been injured. I almost died back then. The doctor said my health had seriously deteriorated, and if I don’t replenish it, in the future…”
She started crying before finishing her sentence, leaving the rest to the audience’s imagination.
Comparing the two sides, indeed Song Xiner looked frail, whereas Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng appeared to be in good health.
An old man stepped forward and addressed Gu Pan, “I think this young lady really does seem quite pitiful. Why don’t you just let her have the chicken?”
Gu Pan looked at the old man and laughed: “Isn’t it possible to purchase meat once a week at the base? How about it, sir, you give your weekly meat to this young lady, right? She needs it, and you seem kind-hearted. You really are exemplary citizens of the base, helping each other out. It’s admirable. Chat amongst yourselves, we have other matters to tend to, so we’ll be heading home.”
Having said that, Gu Pan, with her arm through Lu Ruisheng’s, waved at the old man: “Sir, I admire you big-hearted folks, dressing so simply yet feeling pity for someone decked out in designer brands. Too kind-hearted.”
With that remark, the people surrounding them took note that Song Xiner was indeed dressed in no cheap attire. Not only was it expensive, but it was also carefully coordinated, not something picked up at random in the apocalypse. And those high heels, so lofty, clearly not meant for someone who did hard labor. And the jewelry? Whose family hasn’t sold theirs for food?
Song Xiner clenched her Hermès bag tightly, her heart ready to burst with anger. How could Gu Pan be so detestable?
She lost the desire to stop Gu Pan and instead rushed to explain to everyone: “These clothes were things I found while searching a shopping mall.”
Before getting into the car, Gu Pan added one last jab at Song Xiner in the middle of the crowd: “Miss Song, you got your hair done just a few days ago, right? Who would’ve guessed the hairdressing skills at the base were so advanced. Must’ve cost a pretty penny, huh?”
