Snowstorm: I'm Super Rich in the Apocalypse-Chapter 219 - Discharge
Chapter 219: Chapter 219 Discharge
Chapter 219 -219 Discharge
Gu Pan looked at her father-in-law’s inscrutable smile, and thinking about everything he had done, she couldn’t help but admire him. Indeed, it took someone special to be the Base Commander.
Lu Jianguo turned to them and said, “By the way, when the time comes, we’ll need to change all the locks at our place too. When you have time, go buy some new locks. We can’t let them sneak back in—my reputation would be at risk.”
Gu Pan couldn’t help but laugh, realizing he had a point. She also noticed that her father-in-law really treated his son with casual familiarity, ordering him around smoothly, which was quite amusing.
Lu Ruisheng said, “Dad, we have all sorts of locks at home. Once they leave, I’ll change them for you. I was in renovations before the apocalypse—I can handle these small tasks myself.”
Lu Jianguo nodded immediately, “Good, choose a safer lock when you do.”
Lu Ruisheng agreed, “Hmm, don’t worry, no ordinary thief would be able to break in.”
Listening to their father-and-son conversation was quite interesting for Gu Pan.
Seeing that it was getting late, Gu Pan said, “Ruisheng, you stay here with Dad, I’ll go home and cook.”
Lu Jianguo said, “Go together, I don’t need company. Frankly, I’m thinking about being discharged from the hospital now.”
Gu Pan said, “Dad, the doctor wants you to rest more. Why don’t you take another couple of days to rest? We two can go, and we’ll deal with the renting out process while we’re out too.”
Lu Jianguo agreed, “Alright, I’ll listen to Panpan then. Go ahead, and don’t rush back.”
Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng concurred and left.
They first went to the housing center and met with Chen Lu.
Chen Lu was happy to see them, “What brings you here?”
Gu Pan said, “We need your help renting a bungalow, for someone else.”
Chen Lu was somewhat surprised since there were still many apartments left in their building, and their friends weren’t likely to rent a bungalow, “Do you have friends who need it?”
Gu Pan replied, “Not exactly, it’s for an acquaintance.”
Chen Lu nodded, not prying further, “What are the requirements?”
Lu Ruisheng said, “Just the cheapest, how much is the cheapest?”
After thinking for a moment, Chen Lu replied, “Thirty-six contribution points for a year, minimum lease of three months, ten contribution points.”
Gu Pan took out ten contribution points, “Just give us the key and address, we don’t need to see it.”
Chen Lu didn’t ask further, and went directly to process the paperwork.
Gu Pan pulled out two White Rabbit Milk Candies from her pocket, “Thanks, and when we’re less busy, come visit us.”
Chen Lu happily accepted the candy which, incidentally, was more expensive than the rent; knowing they had their reasons, he didn’t inquire further and saw them out.
Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng bid farewell to Chen Lu and drove home.
Passing by Dr. Feng’s house, they saw Lu Xuerong in the yard, staring blankly at the soil.
They stopped the car and walked in.
Hearing someone come in, Lu Xuerong came back to herself, “You’re back.”

Gu Pan asked, “What’s on your mind, sister-in-law?”
Lu Xuerong said, “This soil issue is driving me mad. It just won’t yield anything, despite my bringing seeds to plant, what a pity.”
Hearing this, Gu Pan sighed, “Don’t get worked up. The base is researching soil and fertilizers. Plus, over time, the soil will likely change.”
Previously she had stored a lot of soil in her Space, but it was like a drop in the bucket—sufficient only for her own use over the years and wouldn’t impact humanity’s seed of survival.
She knew the soil was slowly recovering, only the climate prevented planting, and her knowing was limited to the three years post-apocalypse.
Lu Xuerong stood up, dusting her hands, “How’s the Base Commander doing?”
Lu Ruisheng replied, “Dad’s doing well. He’s just been emotionally up and down these past days, he should be better after some rest.”
Lu Xuerong said, “That’s good.” And then added, “Cheng Yang started working too, not sure how he’ll do since he had never worked before the apocalypse.”
Because Cheng Yang had been staying with Feng Zhekai and Lu Xuerong for a while, Lu Xuerong viewed him more as a child, so she was particularly worried about him.
Gu Pan reassured her, “Cheng Yang’s personality can thrive anywhere, don’t worry. By the way, we’re cooking lunch and will bring you a portion, so you don’t need to cook.”
Knowing they had to bring food to Lu Jianguo anyway, Lu Xuerong didn’t decline, “Okay, I won’t be shy then.”
Gu Pan said, “You don’t have to be, and also, we have plenty of fabric at home. Come and take some when you’re free, you might need to make things for the new house.”
Lu Xuerong sighed, “Fabric is starting to run low now, I won’t make much at home, just need curtains for the bedroom. Keep your fabric, don’t waste it.”
Everything was in short supply, and although the apocalypse had been ongoing for just under two years, their resources were dwindling rapidly due to the extreme weather causing rapid degradation and spoilage of materials.
The weather remained irregular, so no renewable resources were available. Thrift was the only option.
“If you need anything essential, just come and get it from me,” said Gu Pan to Lu Xuerong.
Lu Xuerong nodded, “Hmm, you two go back and rest for a bit. Need help cooking? You must be exhausted these days.”
Gu Pan smiled, “It’s okay, we don’t need to stay overnight at the hospital or anything, so it’s not too tiring. I’ve got the ingredients ready this morning, it’s convenient, don’t worry about it. I’ll call you when it’s ready.”
Lu Xuerong said, “You guys are always quick and organized. I’ll wait for the meal then.”
“Okay, we’re heading home.”
After bidding farewell to Lu Xuerong, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng went back home.
Once home, they took out the food ingredients, selected what was suitable, prepared everything, and since it was still early, they just sat at home and rested.
Lu Ruisheng brewed two cups of coffee, and they sat silently together, enjoying the peaceful moments.
When it was time, they cooked lunch together, set aside a portion for Lu Xuerong, and simply called her over from across the yard to pick it up—no need for an intercom.
This was unlike outside the base, so they had fewer concerns. Additionally, with their homes by the woods, outsiders didn’t pay much attention to them.
Lu Xuerong praised Gu Pan’s cooking skills after picking up the meal, always remarking that Gu Pan’s dishes had a richer flavor.
This was likely due to Gu Pan having a complete set of spices, which other households lacked, making her dishes reminiscent of the pre-apocalypse flavors.
Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng took the food and ate with Lu Jianguo at the hospital. His hospital room was unlike a regular one, very clean.
The next day, Lu Jianguo was discharged from the hospital. He truly disliked being confined in the hospital and was also anxious to return home to evict the mother and son.
After being discharged, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng accompanied Lu Jianguo to his office quarters to collect his belongings, and they drove to Lu Jianguo’s home.
It was not far from their place, just across the building.
