Anubis Crow— considered officially as one of the strongest demigods alive. Also known as the Usurper of Divinity, the Harbinger of Death, the Herald of Destruction, King of the Dead, Lord of the Underworld, and so many more nicknames that one could barely list them. Least of all the man in question.

Most of those nicknames were from the era when he was at war against the goddesses and the divinity as a whole. Vilifying the enemy was a proven true tactic after all. This ultimately proved to be quite useless.

After all, Anubis did not need to recruit allies to fight alongside him. He simply had to kill people and then turn them to undeath and he would have their unquestionable loyalty and strength. The quality of an undead depended on many factors but thanks to his power, he could allow even undead to grow to a certain extent and as his control over death increased, his undead became more and more powerful. Growing alongside him one could say.

Currently, Anubis, a man who was recognized as the boogeyman of the whole universe, was sitting calmly in a pair of yellow, a string of flowers were beautifully etched on the pants, contrasting heavily with his moniker and infamy. He also had a fishing rod in his hand. The boat he was fishing on was drifting aimlessly in the endless sea while his eyes curved into crescents, glowing in an amused and relaxed light.

Next to him was Nephthys. His first wife and the love of his life. She was clad in a small white bikini that contrasted greatly with her chocolate-colored skin and red hair.

The Queen of the Phoenix realm was used to wearing very revealing clothes, but even for her, this bikini was simply outrageous and the only reason she even accepted wearing such clothes was because she wanted to make her husband happy.

She also needed to distract herself from everything after the shocking news she had received not long ago.

“What is the matter, dear? You have been in quite the brooding mode lately. Was that news so surprising?” Anubis asked without taking his eyes from the sea, concentrating on the cues of his fishing rod.

“I do not know. I knew the chances of a Pure Blood Phoenix becoming a King were extremely low. This is why all our hopes were placed on a perfect hybrid like Isis. But I did not expect that the first Phoenix to become a King rank would be Nefertiti. As for Nent, Mother told me she requested permission to descend to the Mortal Realm.”

“Oh?” Anubis raised an eyebrow but then nodded. “I guess that is perfectly normal. After all, this is practically her life’s work coming to fruition. It is only natural that she would want to be there, next to Nefertiti.”

“You don’t seem surprised that our daughter was overtaken.”

Anubis chuckled as he watched his adorable wife pout like a little girl. He loved how cute she could be in certain moments. “Firstly, becoming a King is not a competition of speed. The true level is the Demigod rank. You should understand what I am talking about.”

Nephthys gave a bitter smile but accepted Anubis’ words. After all, she was born at the King's rank and had not managed to go beyond that realm despite all the years she was given.

“You shouldn’t put yourself down, dear. Don’t you think life would be unfair if creatures created through energy had the same potential as those created naturally? This is the price you have to pay for being born strong, unlike mortals who need to crawl from the ground for the possibility of growing somewhat strong.” freeωebnovēl.c૦m

“You really need to work on how to comfort people. Sol has way better skills than you on this matter, at least.”

“Hahaha! What can I say, I am not a diplomat, unlike my son-in-law.” He laughed out loud before continuing, “More seriously though. I am not surprised that girl, Nefertiti was it? I am not surprised she managed to reach that level so fast. If you had seen her soul…” He gave a fake shudder. “The last time I saw that level of pure madness and obsession, it was none other than Echidna herself.”

“Is it really to this extent?” Nephthys gave a skeptical look. After all, she had known Nefertiti while the girl was a baby. From her memory, Nefertiti was just a demure and submissive woman who had been trained all her life to become the perfect wife so to speak. There was nothing special about her outside of her unworldly beauty.

“Her nature was simply hidden. All she needed was a trigger, and I guess Sol has a knack for attracting women who are not particularly right in the head.” Anubis shrugged.

“Need I remind you that our daughter is also one of those women now?”

“Well. Isis is definitely more on the sane side. Speaking of our dear daughter, she could have reached the King realm a long, long time ago. The only reason she did not was because the poor girl was trying to find a new Path that would not clash with mine. Adorable, don’t you think so?” In that instant, the man was neither the feared Lord of the Underworld nor a respected husband. He was just nothing more than a goofy father who doted extremely on his favorite daughter.

Nephthys shared the same smile as Anubis. But she still had one question, “I distinctly felt like She finally accepted the concept of Death not long ago.”

As her daughter, there was a connection between them that could not be repressed by space or time. Nephthys knew that while still not a King, Isis had embraced her power not long ago.

“Do you think Sol is using our daughter to fight against you?” Nephthys asked, uneasy even as she worded her question.

Out of all the demigods who could ascend, Anubis had undoubtedly the highest chance of them all. No one knew what it meant to advance to the god level or even if that was even possible.

Some also speculated that the Throne to Godhood was limited and perhaps only one could rise to that level out of all the mortal creations. If Sol believed in this, it would not be impossible for him to try and harm Anubis so that he could take the Throne of Supremacy.

Anyone who spent time with Anubis would know that he would not block Isis’ road if she wanted more of the Divinity of Death.

Anubis nodded, “That could be a ploy, yes. A very clever one. But as clever as it is. Sol would not do such a thing.”

“You trust him to that extent?”

“No. I simply trust that he is the kind of man who would never use his loved ones in such a cruel way. This would go against the very conviction that formed his Path. I also trust that I raised a girl smart enough to not get so easily manipulated by someone so vile and low that they would use their lovers for their goals.”

Nephthys nodded but her uneasiness showed no signs of diminishing. It was not so much as she did not believe in Sol or thought he might be an enemy. She simply wanted to see her daughter and make sure everything was alright with her.

Anubis understood her feelings and as such took a monumental decision.

“Since you are so worried—why don’t we descend to the Mortal Realm as well?”

His rod twitched as a fish finally got caught. All he needed was patience after all. It was now time to reel in and have a wonderful feast with his beloved wife.

Nephthys showed a hopeful look. As a King ranked Phoenix she could come down to the Mortal Realm as long as she had her mother, Gabriel’s, permission. Of course, she would be forbidden to act in any conflict or leave Lusburg but that did not matter to her. All that mattered was that she was able to meet with her beloved daughter.

“But what about you?”

“I was born in the Mortal Realm. Even as a demigod, I face no rejection from the realm. The goddesses might be a little unhappy, but what can they do about it?” His smirk, full of confidence and power, caused Nephthys to blush heavily.

Anubis had become more reserved nowadays, but this unbridled, rebellious side of him was what initially attracted her to him. The desire to follow a scandalous bad boy and leave her gilded cage had been too much back then.

“Speaking of. With Isis now close to becoming a King rank. Don’t you think it’s time to make her a little brother or sister?” He slyly approached his wife before embracing her tightly, making her gasp in his arms.

In the end, though, she did not reject his touch and simply enjoyed the growing pleasure as the two of them mingled their flesh. Perhaps having a second child wouldn’t be so bad after all?
