Sons of a devil-Chapter 92: Severance
Chapter 92 - Severance
The battle had ended, but the storm in their hearts had not.
Cain stood in the center of the battlefield, breathing hard, his fists still pulsing with the final sparks of his power. Around him, the dust was beginning to settle, the echo of their clash with their father—no, the demon possessing their father—still ringing in their ears like an old curse refusing to die.
Selene leaned against him, her energy drained from the battle. The others—Leo, Eren, and even Eira—stood close, bruised and exhausted, but very much alive.
And before them, on his knees, was their father.
Or what was left of him.
His body trembled, his face flickering between rage and pain, eyes dark as night. Smoke still curled from his skin where Cain's final blow had struck. His mouth opened, trying to speak—but what came out wasn't human.
It was a growl, low and haunting, like it crawled up from the deepest pit of hell.
Neriah moved past the children and knelt a few feet from him, her expression torn between anger and heartbreak. She looked at the man she once loved, the man she had fought, the father of her children—now shackled inside a prison of his own body.
"He's still in there," she whispered.
"No, he's gone," Leo muttered bitterly.
"No," Cain said quietly, eyes focused. "He's trapped. But not gone."
Their father looked up, and for a split second—just a second—his real eyes appeared. Human. Blue. Shaking. Full of regret.
"Help... me..." he choked out.
Selene gasped, stepping forward.
"That was him," she said. "That was real."
The demon's laughter followed, sharp and jarring. Their father's body convulsed, eyes flashing red, and the demonic voice returned.
"You think you can save him?" it hissed. "Fools. He let me in. He wanted me."
Cain clenched his jaw. "That may be true. But that doesn't mean he wanted to stay lost."
Eira placed a hand on Cain's shoulder. "We can try. I know how to reach him. I can see what binds the demon to his soul."
The siblings gathered around. They didn't know what they were doing exactly, but instinct and their bloodline told them this was possible. Together, they formed a circle around their father. Selene and Eira joined hands with Neriah. Cain knelt in front of him, locking eyes with the shifting soul inside.
"Father," Cain said, voice low. "You have one chance. Fight him. Give us a window—and we'll pull him out."
Their father—eyes flickering back and forth between demon red and human blue—nodded once.
Eira closed her eyes. "On three. We pull."
"Pull what?" Leo asked.
"The soul," she said softly. "The demon has it wrapped in chains. We need to sever the bond."
Eren reached into the air, summoning a silver flame between his palms. It was small, but warm—pure magic.
"Ready."
"One..." Eira whispered, holding out her hand, which began to glow.
"Two..." Selene's eyes turned white with raw power, her fingers crackling with light.
"Three!"
They unleashed their powers all at once.
A beam of golden light erupted from Selene's hands and hit the chest of their father. Eren thrust the silver flame directly into his heart. Cain and Leo each grabbed one shoulder, channeling everything they had into pulling the demon's essence away from the soul buried within.
The demon screamed—a horrid, guttural sound that made the ground shake.
Chains burst into view—black, spiked, cruelly wrapped around their father's chest and limbs like monstrous vines. They could all see them now, bound with ancient symbols that pulsed with dark magic.
Eira reached into the ethereal plane with her magic, whispering in a language none of them understood. Her eyes rolled back, her voice calm, resonant. "I call upon the fire of truth. Show me the path. Sever the evil."
The chains tightened. One of them snapped.
The demon shrieked. "You dare rip me from the throne I built?!"
"You were never king," Cain spat. "You were a parasite."
With another flash of energy, a second chain broke.
Their father began to scream—not in agony, but in release. The red glow in his eyes faded, replaced again by that human blue.
Selene pushed more power into the bond. "Hold on! Just one more!"
The final chain around his heart began to crack.
The demon roared one last time, sending out a pulse of energy that knocked Leo and Eren back several feet. Cain dropped to his knees, blood trickling from his nose from the force of the backlash.
But Selene and Eira held steady, their powers forming a protective shield around everyone.
"Now!" Eira shouted.
Eren, despite the pain, hurled the last of the silver fire into their father's chest.
The final chain snapped.
And the demon... was ripped out.
It left their father's body in a whirlwind of black smoke, shrieking and screeching as it was flung into the air. Neriah raised her hand, chanting softly, and sealed the demon into a glowing crystal that snapped shut with a hiss of finality.
The world fell silent.
Their father collapsed, unconscious—but breathing. Whole. Free.
Cain stumbled forward, falling to his knees beside him. "He's alive," he whispered.
Selene touched his back gently. "We did it."

Neriah looked at the crystal in her hand, eyes shining with tears. "He's gone. The demon is gone."
Leo sat back on the dirt, dazed but relieved. "Holy hell... we actually pulled it off."
Eren laughed breathlessly. "And we didn't die. Bonus."
Eira walked to their father and placed her hand over his chest. "He'll sleep for a while. But... he'll be himself when he wakes up."
The family sat in silence, the weight of their actions washing over them.
Cain looked around at his siblings, Selene, and his mother. And then down at his father.
He didn't know what the future held. There was so much left unsaid, so much pain still to process.
But for the first time... there was hope.
