Chapter 137: CH 137: Escape (MUC 5)
Kim Hyun’s eyes gleamed with a mixture of calculation and desperation as he slowly raised his hands in surrender. Unbeknownst to Dave, he was secretly summoning about 300 beasts he’d previously tamed but were spread out across the city.
He gave them order to converge on his location. It would take a little while for them to arrive, but Kim Hyun had intended to use that time to stall Dave.
"Before you do whatever you want to do to me, I have a question," Kim Hyun said, his voice laced with a hint of curiosity. "What’s your relationship with Kim Sun? I noticed she cares a lot about you. Why?"
Dave’s sword remained pointed at Kim Hyun’s neck, but he didn’t flinch as he replied, "She’s my school principal, are you done?"
Kim Hyun’s eyes lit up with interest. "School principal? Oh, that school she ran to," he said, his tone dripping with intrigue.
But Dave had decided to ask a question of his own. "I have a question for you too, why did you capture her in the first place?" He said with a serious tone.
Kim Hyun’s expression remained neutral, but his eyes narrowed slightly. "You really don’t know?" He asked, a sly smile spreading across his face.
"Do you even know who she really is? Or the fact that she’s using a fake name?" Kim Hyun’s words hung in the air, piquing Dave’s interest.
"Who is she? And why is she using a fake name?" Dave asked, his patience wearing thin.
Kim Hyun’s smile grew wider. "Do you really have to hear it from me? I think hearing it from her is best."
Dave’s response was swift. He sheathed his sword and grabbed Kim Hyun by the neck, his grip firm. "Tell me yourself and stop playing games," he demanded.
Kim Hyun tapped Dave’s hand, signaling for him to let go. "Okay, okay," he said, his voice strained before Dave eventually let go. "She’s my wife."
For a moment, Dave’s brows had widened slightly in surprise and amusement. He couldn’t help but wonder how Sun had ended up as this criminal’s wife.
"Actually, she’s my ex-wife," Kim Hyun began, a hint of malice creeping into his voice. "I divorced her years ago, and since she couldn’t bear the humiliation, she had to change location and obtain a new identity."
Dave’s expression turned skeptical. "Oh really?" he said, a snug smile spreading across his face. "Cause this sounds like a made-up lie. Why would Kim Sun change her identity because she was divorced by you, a whole hardened criminal?"
Dave’s eyes locked onto Kim Hyun’s, his gaze piercing. He could tell that the real story was the opposite. Kim Sun had probably divorced Kim Hyun and then decided to change her identity so as to escape from him, and prevent him from finding her. freeweɓnøvel.com
’If she’s his wife, then it must mean she’s the lady whose female cousin was raped by this psycho. I shouldn’t be too surprised, after all, he’s a psychopath.’ Dave thought within as he grabbed Kim Hyun by the neck again.
"Do you think I’ll believe your lies? After everything that was heard on the news?" Dave said. For a moment, as his grip on his neck tightened, but he quickly regained his composure.
"I’m telling you the truth," Kim Hyun insisted, his voice strained from the pressure on his neck. "Sun couldn’t handle the shame of being divorced by me, so she ran away and started a new life."
Dave’s expression remained skeptical, his eyes narrowing as he studied Kim Hyun’s face. "I don’t believe you," Dave said, his voice low and even. "The way you say it, even a five year old could tell that it’s a fabricated story. I know Kim Sun divorced you, but you couldn’t handle it, so you’re trying to spin it to make yourself look like the victim."
Kim Hyun’s eyes flashed with anger, but he quickly suppressed it, replacing it with a mask of calmness. "You don’t know what you’re talking about," Kim Hyun said, his voice dripping with venom. "You don’t know what kind of woman Kim Sun is. She’s manipulative, cunning, and ruthless. She used me for her own gain, and when she got what she wanted, she discarded me like trash."
Dave’s grip on Kim Hyun’s neck remained firm, but his expression didn’t change. He was listening to everything that was said by him, but he was more concerned about the system.
It should have shown him a quest completed notification by now. But it hasn’t, which was why he hadn’t acted since. And since the system hasn’t shown anything, he quickly interpreted it that his quest isn’t completed yet, which means, there’s still one more thing he has to do.
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Dave, the 300 beasts that Kim Hyun had summoned were getting closer and closer, their massive footsteps echoing through the streets as they closed in on their target.
As Dave’s grip on Kim Hyun’s neck remained firm, a sudden, sharp sensation made him flinch. A small, bat-like beast had latched onto his head, its tiny claws digging deep into his scalp. Dave’s eyes widened in surprise as he instinctively released his hold on Kim Hyun’s neck, his hands flying up to defend himself against the unexpected attack.
With a swift motion, Dave formed his hand into a slap, and with a single, precise strike, he knocked the beast off his head. The creature’s tiny body crumpled to the ground, lifeless. But as Dave turned his attention back to Kim Hyun, he realized that his opponent had vanished.
Kim Hyun was already making a break for it, sprinting through the empty streets as he escaped. Dave’s instincts screamed at him to give chase, but before he could take a step, a swarm of bat-like beasts descended upon him. The creatures clung to his arms and legs, their claws digging deep into his skin.
As Dave struggled to shake off the beasts, his gaze fell upon a more ominous threat. Towering beasts, their massive bodies looming large, as they emerged before him. Their eyes were fixed on Dave, and they began to close in, with a deep ferocity.
The air seemed to thicken with tension as Dave faced the new threat, his eyes locked onto the behemoth of beasts as they advanced towards him.
