Chapter 149: CH 149: Ajax’s secret plan
Anthony left his office, his footsteps echoing through the corridors as he made his way to the room where the two kids were being held. Although they were locked in, they were still treated with a modicum of care, being fed regularly and provided for like children in need of protection. Anthony’s thoughts were consumed by the information they had provided, and he was determined to learn more.
As he reached the room, he was met with an unexpected sight: the door was open, swinging gently on its hinges. For a moment, Anthony paused, his brow furrowed in concern. Why was the door open? He acted quickly, pushing aside his doubts and stepping inside the room. The sight that greeted him was one of chaos.
"What’s happening?" Ajax asked, his voice laced with confusion, but Anthony didn’t respond. Instead, he rushed forward, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on a figure lying on the ground. The man was passed out, his body limp and still. Anthony’s gaze narrowed as he took in the scene. It was the fellow who had been tasked with serving food to the two kids. They must have attacked him when he came in, taking advantage of the fact that their hands weren’t bound.
Anthony checked the man’s pulse, relief washing over him as he felt a steady beat. He was still alive. But his expression turned serious as he turned to Ajax. "Go now, find those two kids for me," he ordered, his voice firm and commanding. "They must be among the crowd."
Ajax didn’t hesitate, immediately rushing off to carry out Anthony’s order. The sound of his footsteps faded into the distance as Anthony remained behind, his eyes fixed on the unconscious man.
Anthony’s eyes scanned the room, taking in every detail as he tried to piece together what had happened. He examined the floor, the furniture, and the air vents, searching for any clues that might reveal how the kids had managed to escape. After a few minutes of searching, he decided to leave the room and join the search for the two kids. He gently helped the passed-out man to his feet, supporting him as they made their way out of the room.
As they walked, Anthony’s gaze fell on the clinic, and he guided the man towards it. The attendants rushed to assist, carefully lifting the man onto a stretcher. Anthony watched as they tended to him, before turning to seek out the matron.
"Please take care of him," Anthony said, his voice filled with concern.
The matron smiled, her expression warm and reassuring. "Of course, I always do," she replied, her words dripping with confidence.
Anthony nodded, a hint of a smile on his face. "Thank you," he said, before turning to leave.
He made his way to meet Ajax, who was waiting for him with a look of determination. "I haven’t seen them anywhere, sir," Ajax reported, his brow furrowed in concentration. "I think they must have escaped with the people that went out of the casino," he concluded, his voice laced with a hint of certainty.
But Anthony’s expression remained skeptical. "Continue searching for them!" he ordered, his voice firm and commanding.
Ajax nodded, a crisp "Yes sir" escaping his lips. But as he turned to leave, a faint smile played on his lips, and he couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction. Internally, he was grinning to himself, his thoughts racing with the implications of the kids’ escape.
Hearing the news that the kids might have left with the crowd, Anthony’s eyes narrowed, and he decided to check the CCTV footage to confirm. He sat down in front of the monitor, his fingers flying across the keyboard as he browsed through the footage from ten minutes ago. The images flickered and changed, showing different angles of the casino, until finally, he found what he was looking for.
On the screen, he could see the two kids walking out of the casino with the crowd, their small faces visible among the sea of people. It was just as Ajax had claimed. Anthony’s expression darkened, and he let out a low growl. "Shit!" he exclaimed, slamming his hands on the table.
The force of his blow sent shockwaves through the room. The television on the table shook violently, and the glass screen cracked before it toppled to the floor, shattering into a hundred pieces. Papers and pens went flying in all directions, and the table itself creaked and groaned under the impact. Even Anthony was taken aback by the ferocity of his own reaction.
For a moment, he sat there, his chest heaving with exertion. Then, his gaze dropped to his arm, which was covered by a sleeve. He instinctively checked it, and then he saw a certain familiar mark on his hand. Instantly, he covered his arm back up, his expression remaining impassive, a mask of calmness that belied the turmoil brewing inside him.
He then looked around him, taking in the sight of the destruction he had caused. Just as he was contemplating how to clean up the mess, a knock on the door had interrupted his thoughts. Not wanting to reveal the damage he had caused, Anthony quickly got up and made his way to the door. He didn’t want anyone to see the state of his office, so he decided to exit the room instead.
As he stepped out into the corridor, he saw Ajax standing by the door, a calm and collected expression on his face. "You don’t have to worry so much about it," Ajax said, his voice soothing. "I already have someone chasing after them." Anthony’s eyes narrowed, his curiosity piqued. "Someone? Who?" he asked, his tone firm.
Ajax smiled, a hint of confidence playing on his lips. "Someone reliable," he said. "He’ll come back to give us news of their whereabouts, even if he’s unable to capture them."
Anthony’s gaze lingered on Ajax’s face, searching for any sign of doubt or uncertainty. But Ajax’s expression remained serene, his eyes gleaming with a quiet assurance.
