Chapter 67: CH 067: I want you (MR 9)

As Chris and his group walked away, their footsteps fading into the distance, Dave and the others had turned in the opposite direction leading to their assigned destination.

But Eric’s gaze won’t stop lingering on the hybrid that stood motionless beside them. And since Dave was here, he had decided to ask a question. "Chris said you were able to control this thing, so what do we do to it now?"

Dave’s response was casual, "Well, I’ll just let it go its way." He instructed the hybrid to head back to the laboratory, its purpose now to defend the lab against any potential threats.

With its strength, Dave was confident it could handle any beasts or intruders. So putting it in charge of the lab was the best option since he’ll be revisiting the place tomorrow for a very important task.

As the hybrid vanished into the distance, its form blending with the shadows toward the laboratory, the group stood momentarily still, the weight of recent events pressing upon them. The plan had been to proceed to Willow’s Street, but their current location was several distances away, and the journey would be long and uncertain.

Eric glanced around, his eyes settling on a familiar street sign. "My aunt lives nearby, it’s close to a bakery shop," he said, his voice tinged with concern. "I’d like to check on her before we move on."

Dave considered the request, nodding slowly. "We can wait until morning," he replied, masking his own reasons for the delay. Unspoken was his need to confront Tasha, a task he had planned for the next day. The betrayal still burned, and he sought both answers and retribution.

He kept his thoughts to himself, not wanting to burden the others with his personal vendetta. If all went as intended, he would not only complete a long-overdue mission but also settle the score with Tasha.

If Dave hadn’t possessed his unique abilities or managed to end the system’s punishment, his fate would have been sealed, as he would have been transformed into a mindless hybrid under White’s control. The thought of losing his autonomy, his very essence, to become a mere puppet was chilling.

As he pondered this grim possibility, questions surfaced about the system actions if he had turned into a hybrid. Would it have continued to function if he were no longer himself? Would it still issue quests to a being devoid of reason and purpose? The uncertainty gnawed at him, but there was no one to answer him.

In the silence, Dave’s mind raced through scenarios. Perhaps the system would recognize the loss of its host’s cognitive faculties and cease operations, rendering itself dormant. Or maybe it would persist, futilely dispatching directives to an entity incapable of comprehension.

The idea of the system’s relentless functionality, even in the absence of a sentient recipient, was both fascinating and unsettling to Dave.

As dusk settled over the desolate cityscape, Eric departed toward his aunt’s residence, leaving Dave and Ella to find shelter for the night. The streets, once bustling with life, now lay silent, bearing the scars of the recent upheaval.

Dave and Ella walked through the abandoned neighborhoods, their footsteps echoing against the hollow buildings. The apocalypse had driven many from their homes, depleting supplies and forcing survivors to seek refuge elsewhere. Supermarkets and marts had become initial sanctuaries, but as resources dwindled, many moved on, searching for unclaimed territories or reuniting with lost family members.

After several minutes of cautious exploration, they stumbled upon a modest house nestled behind a once-popular Korean restaurant, its faded sign reading "Grandma’s Dinner."

The restaurant’s windows were shattered, and its interior lay in disarray, a testament to the chaos that had unfolded. Though the scent of spices had long since dissipated, the memories of bustling dinners lingered in the air.

Recognizing the improbability of finding edible remnants inside the restaurant, they turned their attention to the adjacent house. The front door hung ajar, creaking softly with each gust of wind.

Despite the signs of hasty departure, overturned furniture, scattered belongings, the structure still remained intact.

The house, though weathered, offered a place of refuge. Its walls stood firm, and the roof showed no signs of leakage. In the living room, an overturned sofa and a rug hinted at the lives that once lived here.

Dave secured the entrance, propping a chair beneath the doorknob, while Ella gathered cushions and blankets from the bedrooms to create a makeshift sleeping area.

As night enveloped the city, they settled into their temporary haven. The distant howls of the wind and the occasional growls of distant beasts were the only sounds that accompanied them.

In this fragile sanctuary, amidst the remnants of a world lost, Dave and Ella found a momentary respite, drawing strength from each other’s presence as they prepared for the journey ahead.

The sofa creaked as Dave and Ella settled into its embrace, seeking respite from the day’s trials. Cobwebs danced in the slivers of moonlight filtering through the tattered curtains, casting a soft glow over the room. The silence was a balm, wrapping around them as they closed their eyes, hoping for a momentary escape.

But tranquility was fleeting. Ella had shifted, the cushions sighing beneath her as she rose. Her bare feet made no sound on the cold floor as she moved to stand before Dave. Her silhouette, framed by the dim light, was tense, her hands were clenched at her sides. Dave opened his eyes, meeting hers, and saw the storm brewing within her.

"I want you," She started, causing Dave to blink his eyes repeatedly. Then she continued, "I want you to do what you did to Simbi to me too."

"Huh?" Dave blurted out surprisingly, but then he saw Ella taking off her shirt, revealing a certain part of her body to him.

"I want you... to take my virginity." She said, her eyes fixed intently at Dave.
