Chapter 426: Fei Chuan has woken up

On the way back, Bei Sangyun was once again plagued by disturbing thoughts.

The great monk had offered to perform another divination, to unravel the knot of their fate. However, there was only a slim chance they might find an answer from that, and she would have to wait four long years for even that small possibility.

Four years...

She would have to be separated, far, far away from Fei Chuan for four years. It would be incredibly difficult, but she could endure it as long as she knew Fei Chuan was alive and well.

But what if, after those four years, she still found no answer?

Bei Sangyun’s steps faltered. She stood still for a long time, lost in thought.

.....

On the fifth day since Bei Sangyun’s sudden disappearance, the villa received great news.

Fei Chuan had finally woken up!

Everyone in the villa rushed towards his room.

Grandma Pei and Maid Ye Zhai were the only ones Dr. Jang allowed to enter. The noise of the crowd might disturb Fei Chuan’s rest, so Dr. Jang refused to let everyone in at once.

After completing the check-up, Dr. Jang stepped aside, allowing Grandma Pei to approach the bed.

She gazed at Fei Chuan with deep concern and affection. Her trembling, aged hand gently held his thin one. "How are you feeling?" she asked softly.

Fei Chuan smiled weakly. "I feel a lot better. I’m sorry to have worried you..."

"You nearly scared me to death, child. Don’t ever collapse like that again. Don’t hide your illness from me, or I might fall ill myself," Grandma Pei pleaded, her eyes welling up with tears.

"I’m sorry, Grandma," Fei Chuan whispered hoarsely.

Not wanting to burden him with guilt just after he had woken up, Grandma Pei wiped her tears away and began chatting with him again in a lighter tone.

Fei Chuan answered her questions and listened to her intently, but his eyes kept glancing toward the door from time to time.

Finally, he couldn’t hold back any longer and asked, "Dr. Jang said I’ve been unconscious for five days. Including the day I fell ill, I’ve been bedridden for an entire week..."

His voice was slow and strained, his throat still parched, making speaking difficult. But he had to ask, "...Bei Sangyun must have been worried. Where is she?"

On the day he escorted her to the airport, she mentioned that she would be out of the country for only three days at most and insisted that he contact her every day. But because he had passed out that day and remained unconscious for the following days, he hadn’t been able to fulfill his promise.

He was worried that, after not hearing from him for a whole day, she might have made a rash decision to come back.

He hadn’t expected his illness to be so much worse this time, leaving him unable to open his eyes or summon any strength to spare to call Bei Sangyun.

Now that an entire week had passed, she would surely have returned by now. And undoubtedly, she would have discovered the condition he had so painstakingly hidden from her.

He needed to apologize for concealing such an important matter from her.

Fei Chuan knew he had made a mistake and caused everyone to worry—especially Bei Sangyun, who had no idea about his illness.

She must have been terrified, seeing him vomit blood for days and not wake up.

He had never wanted her to see that side of him, but now the truth was out.

Fei Chuan was so consumed with thoughts of Bei Sangyun that he didn’t notice the strange expression on Grandma Pei’s face.

"She... she went out," Grandma Pei said hesitantly. "She’s not at the villa at the moment. She was really worried when she first heard the news. She flew here immediately after the blizzard passed and has been taking care of you ever since."

Fei Chuan felt a pang of guilt. "...I should apologize and thank her later when she returns." freewebnσvel.cѳm

Grandma Pei nodded. Noticing that Fei Chuan was getting tired from just talking, she decided not to disturb him further.

He asked for his phone and laptop to be placed beside him. Though reluctant, Grandma Pei agreed after he promised he would just take a quick look and rest afterward.

Satisfied, she left the room to prepare some porridge for him, with Maid Ye Zhai bowing and following her out.

The others waiting outside would have to visit later, as they didn’t want to risk affecting Fei Chuan’s health, which had only just begun to recover after those difficult days.

When the room was quiet again, Fei Chuan opened his phone and saw several missed calls and messages from Bei Sangyun.

As he suspected, she had been frantic with worry, not receiving any messages from him. Her concern was evident in her messages, making him feel even more guilty.

He promised himself he would make it up to Bei Sangyun and tell her the whole story about this strange illness, though he suspected she had already pressed the others for details.

Fei Chuan didn’t question why Bei Sangyun wasn’t at the villa at that moment. She couldn’t possibly stay with him 24/7 for an entire week. Even though he was important to her, she had other responsibilities—her grandmother, and other matters he wasn’t aware of.

Still, a part of him had hoped she would be one of the first people he saw when he woke up. But he quickly dismissed the thought.

How could he expect anything from her when he had been the one to lie and keep things from her?

Fei Chuan’s thoughts were consumed by Bei Sangyun throughout the day until he finally fell asleep. When he woke, it was already midnight.

By now, Bei Sangyun must have returned, right?

He assumed she would be back at the villa that night. Surely, the news of his recovery would have reached her by now.

Fei Chuan slowly sat up in bed, his bones creaking with the effort. His whole body was stiff from being bedridden for an entire week. Though Grandma Pei had massaged his legs and arms earlier, his limbs remained stiff and weak.

He could only walk with the support of his surroundings. Since it was midnight, he didn’t want to disturb anyone. After all, everyone must have been tense for days, and tonight was their first chance to sleep peacefully.

Slowly, Fei Chuan made his way out of the room. Leaning against the wall, he carefully approached Bei Sangyun’s room.

Even though he had been unconscious the entire time and hadn’t felt the days pass, the thought of not seeing her face during those days made him miss her terribly. Even now, he longed for her.

He wanted to show her that he had recovered, that there was nothing to worry about anymore. He wanted to apologize for not replying to her messages and for lying to her. Most of all, he wanted to ease her heart and hold her close.

He knocked gently on the door and waited. But after a long moment, there was no response.

Was she asleep?

Fei Chuan turned the knob, and the door opened.

He entered carefully, but the dark, cold room greeted him.
