Chapter 579: Healing

On the other hand, Bei Sangyun, who thought she wouldn’t be able to sleep with the man she loved in the room watching her, fell into a deep sleep. Despite sleeping the whole day, she still slept like a log. It was as if her body—and soul—were recovering.

When she woke up, Fei Chuan was lying beside her, smiling gently. She hadn’t even felt when he moved to her bed and began hugging her.

"I thought you didn’t want to sleep next to me," she said in a hoarse voice.

Fei Chuan gently brushed her messy hair away from her face. "I’ve calmed down already." He kissed her eyes. "Besides, I wanted to be the first person you see when you wake up."

Bei Sangyun smiled, wrapping her arms around him, full of happiness and contentment."The best feeling ever."

Then suddenly, she felt something warm poke her stomach. She could feel how... alive it was.

Bei Sangyun paused. She looked at Fei Chuan, stunned. "I thought you said you calmed down."

Fei Chuan averted his gaze, his ears tinged red. "Well... you suddenly hugged me."

Bei Sangyun: "...." Hugging can cause that?

Fei Chuan awkwardly pulled away. "I made you breakfast. Come down when you’re ready. I’ll go first." And with that, he rushed out like he was being chased.

Bei Sangyun chuckled.

....

There were many sumptuous dishes on the table. Fei Chuan handed a fruit shake to Bei Sangyun, gesturing for her to drink it.

Bei Sangyun accepted it and looked at him in awe. "Did you even sleep?"

All of these dishes would’ve taken a long time to prepare by himself. She wondered when he had started cooking.

"I had some help," Fei Chuan replied, scooping food onto her plate and placing it in front of her. "Dig in." He then took his own seat opposite hers and began eating as well.

Bei Sangyun’s bright eyes and delighted smile stayed throughout breakfast. She had woken up beside Fei Chuan, was able to taste delicious food again, not to mention it was cooked by Fei Chuan, and her precious person was still by her side. She could spend every moment of her life like this—forever.

The two shared a beautiful morning, smiling at each other with hearts full of joy.

.....

After breakfast, Fei Chuan called Assistant Cheng to bring him a change of clothes. Soon enough, the latter arrived.

Seeing his boss smiling and in such a good mood, Assistant Cheng immediately concluded that yesterday’s visit had borne fruit.

"Cancel all my plans for the next three days," Fei Chuan instructed.

Assistant Cheng’s smile instantly faded."...Three days?"

"Yes. I have a lot of things to do."Fei Chuan didn’t offer any explanation. His word was final.

Later, the couple drove together to a certain apartment in City A.

...

It was a perfect day to be outside. The sky was clear, and the breeze was gentle—just cool enough to be refreshing. Lin Fei strolled through the park with his dog, taking slow, steady steps.

He spotted an empty bench nearby and sat down with the dog beside him. Although he was recovering well, his stamina wasn’t fully back. But he was making progress—managing two laps now when, at first, he couldn’t even walk a hundred meters without needing to rest.

His dog followed loyally, tail wagging and tongue hanging out. Compared to when he had first adopted it, the dog looked much healthier now, and its previously broken leg didn’t show any signs of injury.

"Having fun?" Lin Fei asked with a soft smile, ruffling its fur.

He had never owned pets before—never even planned to. But almost a month ago, he had seen this dog lying on the side of the road. Its leg was broken, and its body was thin and scarred. For some reason, an unexpected urge to help had surged in him.

When he tried to approach the wounded dog, it barked and bared its teeth at him, warning him to back off.

But the closer he got, the clearer he saw how bad the dog’s condition was. Something about the situation triggered a memory from many years ago.

She was only ten back then. She was a wounded, abandoned child, she cried alone—silently bearing all the pain and loneliness. When he approached her, her eyes turned wary, defensive—pushing him away. But the tears on her face softened her guard, just like the trembling dog before him.

Just as he did back then, Lin Fei ignored the barking and growling. He picked the dog up and took it straight to the vet.

He paid a generous amount and asked the vet to take care of it. He even left his business card, telling them to contact him if more funds were needed. Lin Fei hadn’t planned to look after the dog personally. Their connection should have ended there.

But the next day, he received a call from the vet. She told him the dog was doing well and asked if he wanted to visit. Lin Fei thanked her and declined.

Yet over the next few days, the vet kept calling or texting him updates. The dog was recovering quickly, she said.

One afternoon, without quite knowing why, he drove to the clinic—just to see the dog for himself, to check if what the vet said was true.

As soon as he entered, the dog, which had once growled and threatened him, began wagging its tail. It even tried to run toward him, though its broken leg slowed it down. Still, it didn’t stop—the dog dragged its bandaged leg eagerly across the floor, determined to reach him.

Lin Fei grew worried and quickened his pace toward the dog.

"She’s very happy to see you. She’s been waiting," the vet commented with a smile.

"She?" Lin Fei blinked in surprise. He hadn’t even noticed if the dog was male or female.

"Yes. She’s been recovering well and eating properly. Though she’s still a bit fierce. Whether it’s another dog or a human, she growls at them—except me... and you."

"She remembers me?" Lin Fei asked softly, slowly placing his hand on the dog’s head. Her tail wagged faster, and she looked like she wanted to hop into his arms.

"Careful," he murmured.

"Of course, she remembers you," the vet said gently. "After you left, she watched the door every day, staring at it. But today, the moment you walked in, she finally left her usual spot."

"But I didn’t do much... Why would she remember me?"

"You saved her. To her, you’re not just anyone—you’re her savior. Her favorite human. Here, give her some treats. She loves these."

Lin Fei fed the dog, and she became even more energetic. From that day onward, Lin Fei began visiting regularly. Each time, the dog greeted him with the same vibrant enthusiasm, looking at him as though he was her entire world.

At first, he had only come to check on her recovery. But as the days passed, he found himself genuinely enjoying the time they spent together—feeding her, playing, just sitting by her side.

"Her leg has fully healed," the vet informed him one day. "You can take her out now. She must be longing for a walk."

"...I can’t take her," Lin Fei said suddenly. "I’m not good at taking care of others."

"You’ll be fine. If anything goes wrong, just bring her back here. She trusts you. She likes you. If someone else adopts her, it won’t be easy for her to adjust."

Still, Lin Fei declined. He asked the vet to find a good owner for the dog and left a generous donation before walking out of the clinic.

The dog seemed to sense something. She barked and bolted out of the clinic, chasing after him.

Hearing the barking, Lin Fei turned around in surprise. The dog was running straight toward him—despite just having her bandages removed.

"Dog! Stop!" he called out, alarmed.

But the dog didn’t stop. Lin Fei rushed toward her to catch her. In a blur of motion, she jumped on him.

She’d been eating well these past weeks and had gained some weight. Meanwhile, Lin Fei was still the same thin, recovering man, still working hard to purge the remnants of addiction from his system.

The dog knocked the thin man down—and the thin man fell.

"Careful, your leg..." Lin Fei muttered, ignoring the pain from the fall and immediately checking the dog first.

But the dog just sat on his chest, panting with her tongue out, eyes gleaming with joy.

Lin Fei stared at her, speechless.

Lin Fei remembered the early days after adopting the dog and couldn’t help but smile. "I saved you... but you also saved me," he murmured.

After bringing the dog into his life, things began to change—little by little. To properly care for her, he had to make sure she was fed, had clean water, didn’t poop all over the place, and got regular walks.

He even left the hotel and found an apartment near a large park—just for her.

As he took care of the dog, Lin Fei also started taking better care of himself. His withdrawal symptoms eased, his appetite improved, his stamina gradually returned, and for the first time in a long while, he started sleeping on time.

Having the dog changed his lifestyle—for the better.

The dog leaned against his hand, tail wagging with pure joy.

She gave him a reason to get better—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

"Is that your dog?" a familiar voice suddenly called out from behind him.

Lin Fei turned instinctively—and froze in surprise when he saw Bei Sangyun and Fei Chuan standing there.
