Star Odyssey-Chapter 3499: Black And White
Chapter 3499: Black And White
Lu Yin met Grandmaster Yu Ran’s gaze and smiled at her. "No."
She shook her head. "If there really are none, then your Tianyuan Megaverse is in danger. Third Boss, you had best start making plans soon."
"What do you mean?"
"Boundless is from the Tianyuan Megaverse, but is it really here to antagonize the High Seraph? Does Yuan Qi really want to become the next High Seraph? Not to mention the Ascendant Hall and the seven major powers, the thirty-six domains alone are not to be trifled with. You’ve made a mistake by coming here.
"You’ve tried to elevate the Grandverse Manor’s reputation here in the Spirit Nidus by going against the Ascendant Hall, but that is a huge mistake."
While people had come to learn that Boundless was actually from the Tianyuan Megaverse, almost no one knew that Yuan Qi was not really the master of the battleship.
While speculation regarding Boundless ran rampant in the Spirit Nidus, only the people at the very top were aware that Yuan Qi was being controlled.
"Why is it a mistake?" Lu Yin asked.
Grandmaster Yu Ran solemnly replied, "The Spirit Nidus is far stronger than the Tianyuan Megaverse. Time is ruthless, and the gap that was created long ago has grown so large that it is impossible to see clearly now. It’s like a bottomless abyss.
"If you are invincible in the Tianyuan Megaverse, Third Boss, then the Spirit Nidus has at least ten experts who could sweep your megaverse away, if not even more."
"Is Grandmaster Su Shidao one of those experts?" Lu Yin asked.
Grandmaster Yu Ran nodded. "The Spirit Nidus wants you to carefully consider the Grandverse Manor’s position and reevaluate your relationship with the Spirit Nidus. There is still the possibility of the Spirit Nidus being willing to help you establish a foothold here, Third Boss."
Lu Yin looked at the woman’s back as she turned away. "Why? Just because I saved you?"
Grandmaster Yu Ran did not answer, as she did not know herself.
Was it because the Third Boss had demonstrated a level of respect for the Spirit Nidus?
While his words were arrogant and his actions were unruly, he had always demonstrated a level of respect for the Spirit Nidus.
The weight of death had been taken away by the Third Boss when he had used the danger zone to deflect the lightning that would have killed Yu Ran.
I was saved because this person used the danger zone to rescue me from another part of the danger zone.
He has already conquered the Grandmaster's Trial, and his skills as a Spirit Treasure Master surpass my own. And yet, he did not use his success to try to threaten the Spirit Nidus.
Is this Third Boss really as lawless as he appears?
Grandmaster Yu Ran could see Lu Yin’s true personality quite clearly, as could many others in the Spirit Nidus.
Everything that Lu Yin had been doing was nothing more than an act.
The land before them was monochromatic. The black and white land marked Grandmaster Su Shidao's domain.
"Grandmaster Su resides within the Black and White Domain. Yet, these two colors are not natural to the region, but come from his sword river," Grandmaster Yu Ran murmured as if speaking to herself.
Lu Yin stepped forward.
"The Epoch Blade is the spirit treasure formation that made Grandmaster Su most famous. It is specialized in attacking. Each slash of the sword can instantly kill a Spirit Ancestor. No one knows how many blades are in the Epoch Blade, but Grandmaster Su used it to fight against Seraph Meng Sang. While he lost, he still fought well enough to be admired for that battle."
Lu Yin slowly walked into the black and white region. The Epoch Blade spirit treasure formation, huh?
Such a sourcebox array was rarely seen.
In the Tianyuan Megaverse, Grandmaster Li was the Array Grandmaster who focused most on combat arrays. It was possible that this Epoch Blade was similar to something that Grandmaster Li had once created.
Lu Yin took a step forward, and his foot touched down upon the black and white soil.
Grandmaster Yu Ran's eyes narrowed. The Third Boss had been delivered.
Wind blew through the region, lifting fallen leaves and setting them adrift in the distance.
Some of the drifting leaves left the Black and White Domain. While they had originally been black or white, as soon as they left the region, they took on a withered, yellow color.
Lu Yin caught some of the leaves. They were dry, and they crumbled at his touch before falling to the ground.
"Why is there no movement?" Grandmaster Yu Ran asked, puzzled.
An old voice rang out, "A friend has come from far away, hahaha!"
Lu Yin smiled faintly and fully entered the Black and White Domain, eventually vanishing from sight.
Grandmaster Yu Ran remained outside the Black and White Domain, staring into the depths of the region. She did not leave and simply remained in place, hoping that the Third Boss would take her words to heart. There were too many terrifying powerhouses in the Spirit Nidus.
Some people would be willing to take action because they were running out of time, while others would act for resources. Others would act on behalf of the High Seraph.
...
The world lost all color. There was only black and white. Lu Yin had never seen such a scenery before.
He had seen the grayness of frozen time, and he had also seen vibrant colors of countless hues.
He was not unfamiliar with the region, and he walked forward until he arrived at the shore of a lake. There, an old man was fishing, his back to Lu Yin.
The old man was staring intently at the bottom of the lake. The water was clear, and it was easy to see all the way to the bottom.
The fish swam close to the fishing line, but they always quickly swam away again. At times, they would flick their tails and splash the old man. He never grew angry, and he simply continued to stare at the bottom of the lake.
Lu Yin walked over to the edge of the lake and looked down at the fish as they teased the old man. A small smile touched his face. "If they’re so easy to catch, why bother fishing?"
The old man smiled. "That’s what makes it fun."
"The fish are clearly intelligent, and they know that you, the fisherman, will only tease them. You'll never catch them no matter how long you sit here for."
The old man chuckled happily. "Doesn’t that just make it even more fun? Some people believe themselves to be the fisherman while actually being the fish. These fish see me as a fisherman whom they can freely tease without me being able to do anything to them. They can approach my fishing line as they wish, or they can stay away from it. When they’re bored, they can tease me. They have no idea that I can catch them by simply reaching out."
Lu Yin sat down. "The fish lack knowledge of your abilities, and so they believe you to be incapable."
"Yes. People are no different. Some think that they are fishing, but they are actually the fish.
"However, if the real fisherman ever pulls in their net, those people will end up as the fish.
"It all depends on the strength and patience of the two sides. Regardless, I’ve been toying with these fish for a hundred years."
"The longer that nothing happens, the more firmly the fish will believe that you are unable to do anything to them," Lu Yin said.
The old man suddenly moved, and he reached out and snatched a fish from the bottom of the lake. Terror and confusion could clearly be seen in the fish’s eyes as it thrashed its tail about in a struggle to escape.
"Haha, see if you can still escape!" With that, the old man casually tossed the fish back into the lake.
The creature quickly swam to a corner of the lake bottom, moving further and further down in an attempt to escape the old man's sight.
He chuckled bitterly. "How sad. It’s clearly been shown the truth, but that just means that it will live out the rest of its days in fear. It would have been better off if I’d just cooked it."
Lu Yin agreed, "Yes, it would be better off being cooked."
The old man glanced over at Lu Yin. "You agree?"
Lu Yin nodded, looking very serious. "I do. After all, it can’t escape anyway."
"Do you understand?"
"I do."
"Then why have you been causing so much trouble?"
"What does this have to do with me? We've been talking about the fish just now."
"You are the fish."
"Even if you are old, Senior, you still can’t insult me."
The old man was left speechless. "I’m just trying to say that you’re like that fish. You keep causing trouble, but what's the difference between what you’ve been doing and the teasing of these fish?"
Lu Yin retorted, "The fact that I’m not a fish."
"Believe me, you are."
"I'm really not."
The old man sighed and set his rod down. "The High Seraph came to me with an offer and a condition. He asked me to kill you."
Lu Yin was not surprised. "You aren’t able to."
"Whether I can or not is another matter. Regardless of the megaverse, whether it’s the Spirit Nidus or the Tianyuan, the High Seraph will always be the fisherman, while you will always be the fish," the old man retorted. "Coming here from the Tianyuan Megaverse is no different than swimming from one side of a lake to the other while circling about the fishing line. He can catch you whenever he wants."
The old man then rose to his feet. "What's wrong with you, child? There’s no reason to be so blunt to people at our level. Why don’t you understand?"
Lu Yin also stood up. "I do understand, but I’m also definitely not a fish."
"Then you’re merely bait."
"Old man, you’re determined to insult me, aren’t you?"
The old man guffawed. "Regardless, I’m confident that the High Seraph is the fisherman."
Lu Yin smiled wryly. "That’s pretty harsh. You’re even insulting yourself."
"I am a fish, and you are also a fish. All three megaverses are fish. The High Seraph alone is fishing. Child, stop stirring up trouble. You can’t save your megaverse in this manner. Grandmaster Yu Ran just warned you—the Spirit Nidus has far too many powerful experts. Some of those old monsters are even older than me, but regardless of who they are, all of them are suppressed by the High Seraph. There’s not a single exception. Unless that elusive invincible being appears, the High Seraph is invincible.
"If you want to save your megaverse, then the Spirit Nidus can help you. Consider this as payment for saving Grandmaster Yu Ran’s life."
Lu Yin did not believe this offer. "Can the Spirit Nidus really help me save the Tianyuan Megaverse?"
The old man thought for a moment. "That will be quite hard. Sorry, I exaggerated. It’s unlikely that we could save the entire megaverse. There are too many who are waiting for a megaverse to be reset. Still, it should not be too much trouble for us to protect Boundless."
"On what basis? Do you believe that the High Seraph will actually listen to you?" Lu Yin retorted.
The old man grew smug. "Don’t underestimate the Spirit Treasure Society. Spirit treasures exist across the megaverse, yet all of them are gathered here in the Spirit Treasure Domain. Why? Because spirit treasures are the only means to glimpse the unfathomable truths of the cosmos. They reveal what existed before the birth of humanity, shedding light on the lifeforms that once roamed before our time. Only through spirit treasures can one peer into such mysteries.
"The High Seraph has reached the pinnacle of his realm. The only path left to him is immortality. But once he attains it, then what? Simply sit and wait for the end? But even the end is an illusion, for death will no longer be within his reach. The only path left to him... is to seek something beyond."
Lu Yin listened quietly. What he was hearing might not actually be the High Seraph’s intentions, but rather the original purpose of the Spirit Nidus.
"Spirit treasures alone transcend the flow of time."
Time could not destroy the contents of a spirit treasure. Unlocking spirit treasures was essentially connecting two widely far apart moments in time.
Before humans came into existence, what had ruled the megaverses? What had the megaverse even looked like? Spirit treasures were the only means of gaining glimpses into those answers.
The Spirit Nidus’s Spirit Treasure Society had lured in countless people by relying on such questions, as unlocking spirit treasures was essentially taking a shortcut to find those answers.

However, the truth was that, while the Spirit Treasure Society was very important, it could not possibly be enough to change the High Seraph’s mind.
The dream of a hopeful future would never be able to compare to reality.
"I’m curious. Why bother trying to help me? Is it really just because I saved Grandmaster Yu Ran? That doesn’t seem like it would be enough for you to ignore a proposal from the High Seraph," Lu Yin asked in confusion.
The old man looked up at the sky. "There was a hidden reason behind my loss when I fought against Meng Sang. The High Seraph offered to share that reason with me if I deal with you, and he would even let me take Meng Sang’s title as Seraph. However, so many years have gone by that I no longer wish to get involved in such matters.
"I no longer have any desire to become a Seraph."
Lu Yin understood. "A heart as calm as still water."
The old man chuckled. "It’s nothing that extreme. I have a good future ahead of me, just staying here in the Spirit Treasure Domain."
"You’re lucky that that’s the case, as otherwise, you would have been deceived," Lu Yin commented.
The old man grew confused. "Deceived?"
Lu Yin looked at him. "Meng Sang’s gone missing. The longer he remains missing, the less likely it is that he’ll be able to keep his title. Even if you don’t step forward to seize his title, someone else will become Seraph."
The old man was surprised. "How could that have happened? Meng Sang is missing? Did you do it?"
"No."
