Supreme BeastTamer: I Can Copy and Upgrade Skills 10x!-Chapter 563: A Friend or an Enemy?
After walking away from Dracos, Nox headed deeper into the ancient forests to continue hunting the Scourge Dragons, leaving the Ice Monarch all alone.
Dracos' gaze lingered on the young boy's disappearing back, and a strange light flashed across his eyes.
"So many mysteries," the Frost Monarch muttered beneath his breath, mist curling in front of him.
Naturally, he was very curious to know if the Frost Elder could be trusted and what this so-called mind tempering was. Was it another skill of his?
"So many questions with no answers." Dracos decided to shake the thoughts from his mind just as Nox finally disappeared from his line of sight.
The Ice Monarch's gaze slowly fell to the ravine below, where the Scourge Champion's roars echoed relentlessly as it tried to climb out of the deep chasm.
Dracos figured it would take the Scourge Alpha some hours before it could finally come out again.
'I'd better remain here so I can lead it even further into the forest, several miles away from the city,' the Frost Monarch thought, his gaze fixed on the ravine where a pair of ominous red eyes stared back at him.
Even though there was so much distance between them, Dracos could easily feel the intense anger the corrupted beast was emitting.
'Good. In its depraved state, leading it deeper should be easier.'
In another part of the forest, Nox came across several more Scourge Dragons. After killing a few, he tamed them and gave them the order to kill their kind.
The corrupted spirit dragons didn't waste time and quickly spread out in all directions, slaughtering any Scourge Dragons they encountered. Sometimes it was one versus one; other times, two or three against one Scourge Dragon.
Not all dragons were as powerful as the champions. Hence, it was relatively difficult for them to fend off their invisible enemies, resulting in the deaths of several of them.
[Ding! You've received experience points…]
Nox had to temporarily disable the system notification for his own sanity.
After a while of running, Nox discovered that the number of Scourge Dragons he was encountering was thinning more and more. At first, it was barely noticeable. However, as more time passed, it became apparent, and Nox had to stop in his tracks.
He glanced around. There were no monsters in sight, but as he turned on his system notification, a deluge of screens popped up before his retina.
"Yup... it seems I'm at an area where they're scarce," Nox concluded, walking a bit further.
Just as he took some steps, though, Nox heard the sound of fighting.
'Is someone else here?' he thought as he ran in that direction. Past a couple of trees later, Nox witnessed a beautiful scene.
In the distance, a lone figure was singlehandedly taking down several Scourge Dragons.
This person moved with grace and precision, wielding the light element. Furthermore, a series of gleaming radiant orbs rotated around this person. Whenever the Scourge Dragons unleashed their corrupted breaths, the orbs intercepted and deflected them back at the sender.
It took some time, but Nox eventually recognized the fighter. His eyes gleamed with a mixture of fascination and confusion.
The fighter was none other than the Light Princess, Lumi Celestis.
The reason for Nox's confusion was because…
'What is she doing here?'
If he could remember, the others had clearly said that the seven other kingdoms were attacked by the Scourge Dragons as well, and their various Monarchs and citizens had returned to protect their kingdoms.
'She didn't leave.'
Nox didn't show himself yet and continued to watch the fight. The ground was littered with blood, and body parts of the Scourge Dragons lay around, yet there wasn't even a speck of grime on Lumi's pristine robe.
"She's very promising." Nox's eyes gleamed with admiration. He couldn't help but wonder what the outcome of the Kingdom Competition would have been if he hadn't shown off.
The Inferno Prince Valkor was powerful, but he was a brute who thought with his fists. Nox was certain the elegant, smart Lumi would have easily taken advantage of this weakness and won the fight.
"And she's just ten years old…" he whispered under his breath.
A cold shiver slid down his spine.
He could see it already—five, ten years into the future. If she survived the chaos of the realm, she would become a force that not even the Supreme Dragon Court could dismiss easily.
'This one… needs to be watched.'

But not as an enemy.
Perhaps, an ally.
Or, at the very least, a variable he could understand.
Nox didn't like unpredictable pieces on the board.
From the shadows, he watched as Lumi turned slowly, lowering her weapon. Her radiant orbs dimmed slightly and settled into a floating ring formation behind her back. She wasn't breathing hard. There was no sign of exhaustion.
No expression of pride or joy either.
She simply wiped the edge of her light blade with a flick of her hand, the energy folding in on itself, vanishing into her palm.
Then—
She paused.
Nox didn't move.
Her eyes narrowed, and she looked in his direction.
Not directly at him, but at the space around him. Her gaze lingered.
Nox blinked slowly.
Had she sensed him?
He stepped out from behind the tree.
No point in hiding anymore.
The moment their eyes met, silence fell over the clearing.
Lumi didn't flinch.
She tilted her head slightly, her expression unreadable.
Then she lowered her hands and relaxed her stance. She didn't smile, didn't draw her weapon again.
Nox walked forward slowly, his boots crunching lightly over frost-covered earth and ash.
When he finally stopped a few steps from her, the space between them hung thick with energy—not hostile, not quite friendly. Just… charged.
"I thought you left," Nox said plainly.
"I didn't," Lumi replied calmly.
Nox studied her face. Her voice hadn't changed. Still soft. Still composed. But there was something different about her. She seemed more serious.
Nox's suspicion was right—Lumi had purposely acted naïve and childish to catch him off guard during the fight. This... this here was her true personality.
"You knew your kingdom was under attack," he said, watching her reaction.
"I know," she said.
Nox raised an eyebrow. "Then why stay?"
Lumi's gaze didn't waver. "Because I wanted to know what you were hiding."
Nox blinked once.
He said nothing.
She continued, stepping a little closer.
"My father suspected something. I confirmed it when I saw how you fought. And after seeing what you did that day and today at the front of the western gate, I'm certain. You're not like the others."
Nox didn't deny it.
Lumi looked around briefly, glancing at the scattered remains of the Scourge beasts.
"These creatures… you've been killing them for hours, haven't you?"
Nox nodded. "Yes."
"Alone?"
He smirked faintly. "Not quite."
Lumi stared at him for a long moment.
Then finally, she asked what she had probably been holding back all along.
"What are you?"
At the same time, inside the taming space, the Elder Frost Dragon was slowly stirring awake.
