Talentless Extra Of The Legendary Hero Academy-Chapter 22: Successful
Chapter 22: Successful
He shuddered at the thought of his sister finding out. "What do you want?"
Severin smiled, like a cat that finally has the rat between its claws. "What do I want? I want you, Ethan Aldrich. For the duration of our stay in the school, you'll be nothing less than my slave."
He didn't want to be stingy with his words, not when he needed to directly make use of him. Severin needed someone that could actually pull their weight in a fight, and he would be needing them for the first main event of the story.
Ethan Aldrich would do for now.
Ethan Aldrich froze. His face seemed to be shadowed, and his eyes darkened. "You want me to be your slave? Stop joking with me!"
An explosive force blasted out of him, rippling into the ground and sending stones flying.
Severin was sent back, but he kept his composure as the pressure around Ethan seemed to be increasing. "This bastard is getting out of hand. Of course this is within my calculations, but I actually thought he would bend within the first negotiation. He doesn't want to be my slave? Maybe I should have called him subordinate."
But even then, Ethan was hesitating. He didn't attack as he would have. His eyes met Severin's own as they entered into a kind of mental battle.
It wasn't what anyone was expecting. In fact, it's not something they should expect. Severin should have been crushed into paste, and yet he's still standing. And Ethan was hesitating?
It caused a buzz among the speculators. One thing that could make someone like Ethan hesitate was if his opponent had the upper hand. But how was that possible when he's only fighting the weakest student?
The weakest student. Wait, isn't that the guy that ordered a Class Five student to attack...
More and more questions were spoken out, and before long, they got to know Severin Reignhart. They began to search anything they could find on the school database. But everything they read led them to only one conclusion.
Severin would... should not survive his encounter with Ethan Aldrich.
Severin got tired of the staring match and used his final nail on the coffins. "I also have a copy prepared to be sent to your fiancée."
Immediately Ethan's face crumbled. Panic and confusion entered his face. "But... how can you know!"
Indeed it was a closely kept secret, but the WireRats were motivated enough, and they dug out everything about Ethan. He has a fiancée that was prepared since birth, but the lady didn't actually fancy Ethan and had been looking for ways to get out of the contract marriage.
Unfortunately for Ethan, he was in love.
"...a person with something to lose is the easiest to control... you just have to find it..." Severin had read the line from one of his cultivation novels, and he had kept it in mind.
Ethan bowed his head, and he forced his face into calmness, but the veins on his head continued to throb. "I will be your slave."
Severin smirked. "Don't be barbaric. You're my subordinate. Think of yourself as a dog with a leash. That rope is the document, and I hold it."
A grinding sound, like two stones rubbing together, sounded from Ethan's mouth. "Just don't let that rope snap."
"Don't worry about that, Ethan Aldrich. Now then, that's settled. You've done well today for my debut. You can shout your surrender now."
Ethan blinked in surprise, but the cold look that Severin gave him made him know he was absolutely serious. Something that should never happen. That never happened before.
A Class Two student bowed his head before a Class Five student and shouted, "I... I surrender!"

The whole of the arena seemed to go into a strange silence. Everyone turned their attention towards the platform. Different pressures clashed, and tension filled the space, making the air warm and heavy.
Severin felt as if thousands of eyes were trying to look through him, but he remained unfazed. He raised his head and turned slowly, his eyes surveying all the students. A clear challenge for those who knew what to look for.
A lot of the students did, and the pressure mounted.
Severin turned to go but paused. "Ethan Aldrich? I need five thousand gold coins to be sent to me. Do that quickly and remain on standby. I will be needing your skills soon."
Then he leisurely walked out of the arena.
Ethan fell to his knees, and he began to sweat. His face finally showed despair, and something heavy left his chest. The pressure that Severin was giving off was entirely different. It was unlike a normal Etherion user's. In fact, it shouldn't even be called Etherion pressure.
It was the eyes. That blue eyes of his that looked at people as if they were moving statues. It pierced the soul and left it naked, stripping it of anything and everything.
It was as if he was looking at Ethan as nothing more than a tool to be moved.
What made Ethan shiver was the fact that he was sure he had been in his trap for a long time ago. "Just what is that guy..."
That was exactly the thought that was passing through the minds of all the students. There had been no applause when Severin left the arena, and yet every eye seemed to follow him.
Although the silence in the arena didn't last long, all the students had put Severin into their minds as someone to check. A Class Five made a Class two admit defeat?
Immediately, they all saw Ethan Aldrich as lower than before, and they began to plot. Should we challenge him to a duel? Surely we should be able to defeat him when a Class Five defeated him, right?
What happened that day was almost like a crime. The very reason for the monthly assessment was created was for the strong to trash the weak through overwhelming power.
To show them how helpless they were. It was how it had always been.
But now, for the first time since the Academy was created, things didn't go as they expected.
Some shivered. Was this a warning? Of things that would come? Things that shouldn't happen?
Suddenly, the image of Severin changed from a prey to that of a predator in their eyes.
Severin's plan for his debut was carried out successfully.
