The Abusive Novel System Pleads with Me to Resign-Chapter 93
Xiao Yun's decision to follow Zhu Qingya came as a surprise to the other three.
They had been together for so long—practically since birth—that his sudden departure left them unprepared. Yet, all three were aware of Xiao Yun's feelings for Zhu Qingya and knew that once she made up her mind, no one could change it. If Xiao Yun wanted to fight for his love, he had no choice but to chase after her.
Though reluctant to see him go, they had no reason to stop him. They bid him farewell with heavy hearts.
Zhong Chen hadn’t seen Xiao Yun since their fight the other day. Xiao Yun hadn’t been to school for days, and Zhong Chen hadn’t expected their unresolved conflict to be left hanging before Xiao Yun’s departure.
At the farewell, Zhong Chen muttered awkwardly, "When are you coming back?"
Xiao Yun smiled. "I don’t know."
Zhong Chen scoffed, "Don’t be embarrassed just because you lost to me. Plenty of people can’t beat me—you’re not the most pathetic one."
"Anyway, you’ve got a private jet. It’s not a hassle to fly back once in a while, right? Unless… you’re scared of seeing me."
Xiao Yun rolled his eyes internally. "Yeah, I’m scared. Scared your brain will never develop, and scared that by the time I come back, you’ll have been scammed out of everything."
He then pulled Zhong Chen aside and said seriously, "Honestly, my impression of Shen Ying is complicated."
"She’s not an ordinary person. She’s too deep, too full of secrets. No matter what obstacle she faces—even overwhelming power—she handles it effortlessly."
"I know you like her, but she’s far more dangerous than you realize. The gap in intelligence between you two is tragic. I can’t stand watching it."
That’s why he had interfered so much. He knew how fiercely and straightforwardly Zhong Chen loved—once he set his heart on someone, no amount of persuasion would change his mind.
But Zhong Chen hadn’t expected Xiao Yun to take one last jab at him before leaving. Annoyed, he retorted, "Worry about yourself first. Make sure Qingya-jie doesn’t kick you out."
"I’m not the one who’s helpless against someone. After all, she’s already admitted to being mine. My skills are beyond your comprehension."
Xiao Yun smirked. "Oh? You mean the ‘skill’ of getting extorted for millions and beaten up? Or the ‘skill’ of not even being able to get her to pour you a glass of water?"
"Or maybe the ‘skill’ of eagerly escorting her home, only to get bundled out the door before you can step inside?"
Xiao Yun’s tone dripped with sarcasm. "Truly impressive, Young Master Zhong. Such masterful skills."
Zhong Chen’s face burned with humiliation. Pointing at Xiao Yun, he sputtered, "I’ll let it slide because I pity you, chasing after Qingya-jie like a lost puppy."
Xing Jiale and Gong Zhaoxi approached, seeing the two at each other’s throats again. "Alright, alright," Xing Jiale said. "A-Yun, just go in peace."
"We’ll keep an eye on him. You sounded like a worried old man just now."
Zhong Chen glared. "What did you say?"
Amid the bickering, the tension dissolved.
Before boarding the plane, Xiao Yun turned to Shen Ying one last time. "I found out about that man around Qingya-jie."
"His background is definitely suspicious, but I’ll need to investigate further once I’m there."
"Whatever happens between Qingya-jie and me, thank you for this."
Shen Ying shrugged. "No need. Senior Zhu already paid me."
Xiao Yun knew she had taken advantage of the recent dip in the Zhu family’s stock to buy up shares.
On the surface, she seemed to care only about money. Normally, he disliked people who approached them for profit. But with Shen Ying, if money was truly her only motive, it was almost a relief.
Finally, Xiao Yun waved goodbye to the four of them and boarded the plane. Zhong Chen and the others watched as the aircraft ascended, their hearts suddenly hollow.
Like a piece of them had been torn away.
"Who knows when A-Yun will come back…"
"Not anytime soon," Xing Jiale said. "Qingya-jie’s new venture is just starting. It’ll take years to establish."
Gong Zhaoxi added, "A-Yun might even attend university there. That’s another few years."
Zhong Chen frowned. "Qingya-jie wouldn’t settle there permanently, would she? If she does… will we ever all be together again?"
The thought cast a shadow over them.
Shen Ying, however, broke the mood. "I have a shopping date. Can someone drive me back?"
Her bluntness instantly drew outrage.
Zhong Chen snapped, "Read the room! A-Yun’s plane hasn’t even disappeared yet!"
Xing Jiale scowled. "After A-Yun fought with Zhong Chen over you, and this is how you react to him leaving? Are you human?"
Gong Zhaoxi sighed. "Honestly, if you treated anyone else like this, I’d find it hilarious. But doing it to A-Yun just pisses me off."
Shen Ying looked at them like they were idiots. "It’s just a short separation. Why are you acting like it’s the end of the world?"
The three stared at her in disbelief.
Xing Jiale slung an arm around her shoulders. "Let me educate you. How long do you think it’ll take Qingya-jie to get her lawyer’s license at the fastest possible speed?"
Shen Ying cut him off. "You all have the same flaw—you assume that just because you decide to do something, success is guaranteed."
"What does Qingya-jie’s license have to do with when Xiao Yun comes back?"
The three paused, turning her words over in their minds.
"Are you saying—"
"No way!" Zhong Chen immediately rejected the idea. "Absolutely no way."
"A-Yun would never get dumped."
Xing Jiale nodded vigorously. "Exactly. Do you have any idea how strong their bond is?"
Gong Zhaoxi chimed in, "Yeah, you’re being way too harsh."
Shen Ying shrugged. "It’s not necessarily about being dumped. There are plenty of reasons to lose hope in a relationship."
Xing Jiale glared. "You’re the worst. First, you encourage him to chase after her, and now you’re predicting failure?"
"What’s your game here?"
Shen Ying raised an eyebrow. "Did you really think I supported Xiao Yun going after her for his sake?"
"I just wanted Senior Zhu to avoid scumbags. She’s alone in a foreign country, with almost none of her family or friends supporting her."
"She’s at her most vulnerable—and most susceptible to predators."
"Xiao Yun might be useless in other areas, but at least he can sniff out anyone with ill intentions."
The three exchanged glances, momentarily speechless.
But their faith in their friend quickly rallied them. "We don’t believe you. A-Yun will win Qingya-jie over."
Shen Ying smirked. "Then how about a bet?"
She pulled out a card. "A million each. We bet on the outcome of Xiao Yun’s pursuit."
While Xing Jiale and Gong Zhaoxi hesitated, Zhong Chen immediately slapped his card down. "You’re on."
They headed to their usual bar, a high-end establishment under the Gong family’s name. In a private VIP room on the second floor, they had a clear view of the dance floor below, where attractive men and women moved to the music—but no one outside could see in.
Zhong Chen tossed his card onto the table. "A million. I bet A-Yun and Qingya-jie will get together, and he won’t truly come back for at least five years."
His enthusiasm spurred Xing Jiale and Gong Zhaoxi to join in.
Xing Jiale also threw down a card: "I bet Xiao Yun will be back within three years."
Gong Zhaoxi: "I partly agree with A Ying. I bet the fundamental issues between Xiao Yun and Qingya-jie will surface within a year."
Zhong Chen and Xing Jiale immediately scowled: "What do you mean? Even you don’t think Xiao Yun and Qingya-jie will last?"
Gong Zhaoxi shrugged: "My opinion doesn’t matter. I’d love to lose this bet, but it’s clear Xiao Yun hasn’t realized some critical problems yet."
Before the other two could berate him, Gong Zhaoxi quickly turned to Shen Ying: "What’s your bet?"
Shen Ying: "One month. I bet that guy will come crawling back in a month."
The three: "??? Are you joking?"
Shen Ying: "I’ve already put in ten million. That’s no joke."
She collected the four cards: "I’ll hold onto the stakes for now and hand them to the winner when the results are in."
The others didn’t mind that, but Shen Ying’s smug confidence rubbed them the wrong way.
Later, Shen Ying headed down to the dance floor, weaving through clusters of scantily clad beauties, flirting and grinding with them.
After a long silence, Xing Jiale muttered, "Did we just get scammed again?"
Gong Zhaoxi: "Doubt it. I still like my odds best. Her estimate is way too aggressive."
He stood up: "To celebrate in advance, I’m joining the fun downstairs."
But before he could leave, Zhong Chen and Xing Jiale pinned him down: "Who exactly are you planning to 'play' with?"
By the end of the day, Shen Ying had thoroughly enjoyed herself. A teenager’s body really was bursting with energy.
The next day, back at school, she was still riding the high.
Spotting Xia Meng, she eagerly shared her clubbing adventures and invited her along next time.
Xia Meng hesitated: "But I’ve never been to places like that, and my family would never allow it."
Shen Ying rolled her eyes: "Come on, aren’t we best friends? Don’t be such a buzzkill."
Xia Meng assumed she meant her reluctance to join.
Then Shen Ying added: "If you won’t go, I’ll just ask Shen Zuola and the others."
Xia Meng thought, Do you even realize how much Shen Zuola hates you?
Just as she was about to reluctantly agree, Shen Zuola’s voice cut in: "I heard my name."
She planted herself in front of Shen Ying: "You’re talking about me behind my back?"
Shen Ying: "Nope. I’m doing it right to your face."
Shen Zuola fumed: "Stop acting so smug. You’re only this bold because Zhong Chen and Xiao Yun fought over you."
"But what does it matter? Xiao Yun left with Qingya-senpai, and Zhong Chen’s family will arrange a match with some elite heiress. Your arrogance won’t last."
Shen Ying: "Ouch, that hurts."
"I consider you a friend—everything I say or do is about you. Yet you only notice me because they favored me. What does that say about our pure classmate bond?"
"I thought we’d reached that beautiful stage of mutual insults, but here you are, still hung up on them."
Shen Zuola nearly gagged. Every clash between them ended in her humiliation, and it was starting to wear on her.
Worst of all, she still couldn’t retaliate. She stewed in silence the entire day.
That afternoon, during inter-class basketball games, the trio cheered like traitors for Zhong Chen’s team, screaming themselves hoarse.
Shen Ying and Xia Meng sat at the edge of the gym, chatting.
Curious about the party drama, Xia Meng asked: "Is it true they fought over you?"
Shen Ying: "Well, the conflict did revolve around me."
Xia Meng lowered her head, her expression hidden. After a pause, she looked up: "Then… who do you like? Zhong Chen or Xiao Yun?"
Before Shen Ying could answer, a synchronized wave of cheers erupted.
The game had ended.
Shen Ying glanced up to see Zhong Chen striding straight toward her after leaving the court.
"You. Go buy me a bottle of water."
Shen Ying nodded: "Sure."
Zhong Chen smirked—until she didn’t move.
Instead, she nudged a nearby Class C boy: "You. Go buy me a bottle of water."
