Chapter 535: "This Takes Too Much Time, How About..."
Nanli cast a cold glance at him, saying, "We agreed on three days. If it’s even one day or an hour less, it doesn’t count as three days."
Qi Hong, frustrated and fuming, glared hard at her.
He Qinian, startled by the intensity, scurried aside and whispered timidly, "Ruler, he... he looks so fierce, like he’s about to kill someone."
"Ignore him," Nanli said. "He wouldn’t dare make a move here."
And she was right.
Qi Hong wouldn’t act in front of Chu Yan, nor would he humiliate himself by picking a fight with Nanli. So, he could only stand there and glare.
Before Chu Yan lay down, seeing that the silence talisman on Qi Hong hadn’t been removed, he said, "You don’t need to worry. I can endure it."
Qi Hong’s eyes flickered, filled with anguish for Chu Yan. But since it was his own fault, the cause of all this suffering, his nose tingled with emotion. He could only nod and stand by quietly, watching without disturbing Nanli.
Nanli had already started casting seals, activating the Eight Trigram Formation.
Golden light poured down from the formation, each direction corresponding to a specific organ, gently nourishing them with its glow. Nanli then took out the Soul-Rebuilding Enchanting Bug.
The bug was tiny, and all it required was water to swallow it.
As she handed a cup of tea to Chu Yan, she warned him seriously, "Fifth Brother, the time needed to rebuild each person’s muscles and bones varies. You must endure."
Though the formation increased the success rate, it could not alleviate the pain.
Chu Yan nodded. "I understand, Sixth Sister. Don’t worry."
He drank the water in one gulp and lay down. In mere moments, waves of pain surged through his body.
At first, the pain was tolerable, but it soon intensified. His face turned pale, and he curled up in agony.
Seeing this, Nanli felt a pang of distress. She handed him a wooden block to bite on.
Beads of sweat covered Chu Yan’s forehead, and his occasional groans of pain were clearly restrained as much as possible.
Qi Hong, filled with worry, grabbed Nanli, his hands frantically gesturing. When Nanli simply stared back at him indifferently, he grew even more anxious, drenched in sweat. But he couldn’t open his mouth. What could he do?
Nanli had sealed his mouth to prevent him from disrupting the delicate process of muscle and bone reconstruction. She then set up a barrier around Qi Hong to keep him from rushing in out of concern.
Qi Hong was furious, but he couldn’t blame Nanli. It was his doing, after all. To save his own life and reunite with his brother, he had planted the Heart-Uniting Enchanting Bug in Chu Yan.
Outside the barrier, he silently wept.
Nanli, uninterested in his emotional turmoil, focused intently on the golden light from the Eight Trigrams. Whenever the Soul-Rebuilding Enchanting Bug encountered resistance, she assisted by guiding it along, helping it pass through meridians and reshape Chu Yan’s muscles and bones.
By now, the Heart-Uniting Enchanting Bug had been completely devoured by the Soul-Rebuilding Enchanting Bug, severing the life-and-death bond between Chu Yan and Qi Hong. However, the Soul-Rebuilding Enchanting Bug, once inside, couldn’t stop its work.
Chu Yan had already been enduring the pain for quite a while. It felt as though his bones and meridians were being shattered and slowly reformed. The agony blurred his vision, but he could still make out Qi Hong, who was in tears, and his Sixth Sister, who remained intensely focused, not even daring to take a sip of water.
Though she didn’t experience the pain herself, Nanli was entirely engrossed in ensuring the formation’s proper function, fearful that any blockages could lead to irreversible damage to Chu Yan’s muscles and bones.
He Qinian dared not make a sound.
Zhi Mi, who had come to observe and learn, was equally speechless.
Both were in awe. They had some knowledge of how the trigrams corresponded to human organs, but they could never imagine constructing such an intricate formation capable of helping Chu Yan successfully rebuild his body.
From dawn until dusk, Chu Yan’s clothes were soaked through with sweat.
The cold wind outside howled, but Nanli stood unwavering before the formation, barely blinking.
The formation might have looked simple, but it drained immense power from her. In truth, the Eight Trigrams worked by channeling her energy into Chu Yan’s organs, assisting the bug in its path. This method, in essence, was a form of purification.
It was a technique she’d developed after dual cultivation and studying numerous cultivation manuals.
Though Chu Yan’s skin appeared unchanged, his internal meridians and bones were now vastly different from before.
Even after all this time, only half of the reconstruction was complete...
Qi Hong had cried himself dry, his eyes swollen. When he looked at Nanli standing straight before the formation, occasionally casting seals to guide the light into Chu Yan’s body, he was moved. No wonder A’Yuan cared for her so deeply; the way Nanli treated her family was why they reciprocated that love and care.
After spending half a month with the Chu family, he was beginning to understand how to protect and cherish his own family...
Finally, as dawn approached, the snowstorm ceased.
Chu Yan’s muscles and bones had been completely restructured.
Having endured such excruciating pain, he was utterly exhausted and had fainted.
As the Eight Trigram Formation dissolved, Nanli’s face turned pale, and her body swayed from fatigue.
She had expended far too much energy...
He Qinian and Zhi Mi had dozed off nearby and didn’t notice that Nanli had finished.
Her body weakened, she intended to sit down and rest, but before she could, someone appeared from behind, supporting her and swiftly lifting her into their arms.
The scent of pine filled her senses. Looking up, she saw Ye Siheng’s handsome face close to hers, his brows slightly furrowed. "The ground is cold. You should take better care of yourself," he said, already carrying her to the bed.
Nestled in his arms, Nanli muttered, "Why are you here? It’s barely morning."
"I’ve been here the whole time," Ye Siheng replied. "Guarding outside."
"Hmm?" Nanli touched his clothes, noting they weren’t cold. "You really stayed outside?"
Guessing her thoughts, Ye Siheng explained, "My inner strength keeps me warm. Naturally, my clothes won’t feel cold."
"You stayed outside all night?"
"Yes," he replied softly.
"Why? Aren’t you busy running the kingdom? How did you end up doing guard duty?" Nanli asked with a hint of concern. But seeing that he still looked fresh and composed, as charming as ever, she quickly brushed aside her worry.
"Having an inner core is really convenient--staying up all night and still looking so fresh!"
Ye Siheng, with a serious expression, replied, "You were focused on rebuilding Fifth Brother’s bones, guarding the formation with all your strength. Naturally, I needed to protect you from any potential threats. Now that my brother’s health is much better, I have more free time."
"Thank you, Your Highness," Nanli murmured, her eyelids growing heavy. She lay down and quickly drifted into sleep, muttering, "I need a little rest..."
Ye Siheng leaned closer, his voice low and alluring. "Relying on sleep to recover is too slow. How about..."
