Chapter 53: Meet My Boss

Tanaga hesitated, carefully weighing what to say next. He sensed Ashley’s reluctance and the seriousness of the circumstance.

He understood that she needed to keep her family’s confidence and that, given how quickly everything had transpired, it would be hard for them to believe that she had wed someone they had never met within her first month in Japan.

"You’re right, Ashley; it would be hard for your family to believe that we’re married, especially with how quickly things have happened," Tanaga said in a light but serious tone.

"However, we must find a way to make this work, and I believe I have."

Leaning back in his chair, he ran a hand thoughtfully through his hair before carrying on.

"How about this? We reserve a room at a classy hotel—somewhere that appears businesslike but still appropriate for a conference. You might ask your loved ones to join you there. However, rather than immediately announcing to them that we are married, you may address me as your Japanese employer. They won’t find it as daunting in this manner."

Ashley, not sure where this was headed, raised an eyebrow. Tanaga explained quickly:

"We can let the conversation spontaneously unfold. Let them get to know me so we may progressively share more about our connection as time passes. It could be simpler for them to accept if we gradually introduce the notion rather than shocking them with the marriage bombshell all at once."

Leaning forward, he met her gaze with his own. "What are your thoughts? Although it’s not a flawless answer, it could enable them to comprehend the circumstances without surprise."

Ashley inhaled deeply as she considered his recommendation. Though risky, considering their unique situation, it appeared to be the most sensible course of action. After all, revealing Tanaga as her husband out of nowhere would undoubtedly shock her family.

"All right, Tanaga," she answered after considering it. "Let’s carry out your idea. We’ll proceed cautiously, hoping they will already feel at ease with you when they discover the truth."

With a look of relief spreading across his face, Tanaga nodded in accord. Although not perfect, the plan was at least a beginning.

Tanaga saw the enthusiasm light across Ashley’s face; she was starting to grasp the potential in his concept. With a little smile on his face, he expressed relief that things were proceeding more sensible.

"Exactly," he said, bending forward with a sharpened gaze. "We’ll stick to the story that you’re working for me, and since it’s already a fact that you went to Japan for a job, it will be easier for your family to believe."

With excitement, Ashley nodded, her brain racing to fill in the blanks. "All right, what sort of work should I claim I’m doing for you? It must seem plausible and fit the narrative we’ve been following to this point."

With contemplation, Tanaga patted the table with his fingers. He said, "Good question," and went on.

"We could say you’re my personal assistant. That is realistic and basic. I can rely on you to assist me with scheduling, communicating, and handling significant clients. Considering how closely we’ve spent time together, that job would make sense."

Ashley’s eyes brightened. "Yes! That functions flawlessly," she said. "It’s believable because I have administrative experience, which is the job I’m supposed to be doing in Japan, and no one would question why I spend so much time with you."

She hesitated, her face growing serious. "We have to ensure that our story is precisely aligned. We can’t make mistakes because my relatives would question us."

Tanaga gave a nod. "All right. We’ll have to practice this. Even some of the most probable questions they may ask can be prepared for. And I may intervene and tell them how much I value your work if they begin to have doubts. You are essential to my life, and I rely significantly on you."

Ashley grinned, her enthusiasm rising once more. "It sounds fantastic. They’ll believe anything without question if we execute this correctly. Maybe after some time, we may gradually introduce them to the reality of our marriage."

Tanaga nodded, admiring her rapid thinking. "Exactly. We’ll take it slow; give them time to adjust to my being in your life."

Tanaga and Ashley felt more at ease confronting her family now that they had the plan. They had a solid base to start from, but they would still need to exercise caution and forethought.

Ashley filled Tanaga in on her past as he listened closely, a tiny smile playing at the corners of his lips. He was impressed by her meticulous attention to detail.

"That’s ideal," Tanaga comfortingly said. "Your business administration degree lends even more credibility to the story. Nobody will wonder why I chose you to be my personal assistant. It makes sense, particularly considering you traveled to Japan for employment. You got this significant job right out of school, another benefit of the internship experience."

Ashley nodded, feeling more confident with every word. "All right. They’ll also be able to comprehend my decision to accept such a significant opportunity in Japan, given my lack of professional experience. It connects everything.

With a more serious attitude, Tanaga leaned forward. "Just remember, Ashley, when we meet them, keep things simple. If they don’t ask, don’t give too much information or overexplain anything. Remain true to your expertise; if they ask you a question you can’t answer, I’ll answer it for you. Together, we’ll manage this."

Ashley inhaled deeply as a wave of relief passed through her. "All right. As promised, I’ll text them tonight to let them know I’ll be in town on business. That way, there won’t be any suspicion when we meet at the hotel. Additionally, we will have a formal setting to support our narrative."

Tanaga smiled at her encouragingly. "Exactly. And don’t worry; I’ll be at your side, encouraging you each step of the way."

Feeling more relaxed, Ashley returned the smile. "Many thanks, Tanaga. Thank you very much for this. We could succeed in this."

Tanaga gave a nod. "Yes, we will. Believe me."

Now that they had a strategy, Ashley felt more at ease with their next meeting with her family. Together, they would carefully negotiate the issue, ensuring everything appeared natural and convincing.

With an awkward look, Ashley looked at the dish before her rather than Tanaga as she spoke.

"Well, that’s your responsibility. Tell them you work as my personal assistant, please. Inform them that I came because of a business arrangement. Yes, it is correct! Say ’THJ Group,’ my firm name, if they inquire what company you work for. There are too many businesses of this kind to count."

"Okay, no problem! I will notify my family if that is okay with you. Fine! Hehe! I’m sure they’ll be happy if they learn I’ll return here in just one month. I’ll see them once again." Tanaga’s recommendation overjoyed Ashley.

Her hunger had vanished from excitement, and she was eager to complete her meal and text her loved ones immediately.

She sent group texts to each family member to ensure she would receive a response.

This was to inform them that another person may respond if they were too busy.

Ashley waited nervously, feeling anxious and delighted at the same time.

Drawing her grin would be nearly impossible due to its exquisite beauty and compelling nature...
