Chapter 68: 69. Her Story

Ivy seemed as if she didn’t hear him speak, sinking into her own world, her mind in chaos, her consciousness blurred. No one is not afraid of death. Close to the edge of life and death, she thought about so many things.

She even wondered if she would be killed, Bianca, like her, would become an orphan. Should she tell Michael before she died that she was the mother of his daughter, and let him take care of her?

After all, he was the child’s only relative!

Not refuting his words, Michael was taken aback and finally realized the pale face of Ivy who had collapsed on the floor.

Two clear lines of tears flowed continuously from the corner of her eyes like broken beads, soundless and without a sob. Only her purplish lips trembled constantly, like an injured, helpless little rabbit.

It felt as if Michael’s heart was being ruthlessly squeezed, so painful that even breathing normally was a struggle.

The next instant, Michael bent down and picked Ivy up into his arms. “It’s normal to be scared by such things. There’s nothing shameful about it. Holding back tears or crying loudly, there’s no difference,” he said.

The expected loud sobbing never came. Michael looked down at Ivy in his arms, so quiet it was as if she wasn’t even breathing. Her two hands tightly clutched his shirt behind his back, fingers pressing so hard that her nails dug into his flesh.

A damp patch appeared on his chest…

She was still crying, silently.

It was evident how fragile her calm façade had been!

Michael’s heart tightened, his footsteps quickened, and his emotions became more responsible.

He once again realized that a strong woman could be more endearing than a vulnerable one!

By the time Michael carried her back to the hotel, over ten doctors were already waiting. Oliver Thompson stood at the door, puffing away on a cigar, his elegant demeanor making Michael want to punch him.

With a “bang,” Michael gave the door a direct kick, obviously venting his anger.

As he placed her on the bed, Michael whispered, “The doctors are here, everything will be fine! Don’t cry, okay?”

Being caught crying was already humiliating enough, let alone being comforted by Michael in front of so many people. Ivy’s pale face suddenly turned red, and her tears stopped abruptly.

“Enough, we’re about to die, and you’re still showing off your love for each other!”

Oliver Thompson threw away the half-finished cigar in his hand and walked into the room followed by the many doctors. “Examine her and find out what poison it is. If you can’t figure it out, you all can leave!”

Upon hearing this, Michael’s nerves tightened, and he grabbed Oliver, dragging him out of the room. “Oliver Thompson, you bastard, come here!”

Oliver just smiled faintly, letting himself be dragged away. Only after leaving the room did he slowly look up at Michael, half-smiling, “You’re so anxious, is it because you’re really in love?”

“You bastard, speak like a human!” Michael’s fist flew towards him, but Oliver caught it with ease in the palm of his hand. “Tell me honestly, did you send someone to catch that dead man walking named Damian Harrison?!”

Instead of answering, Oliver glanced at him indifferently, his face saying that Michael was meddling too much.

“I’m telling you, if you dare to mess with him before getting the antidote, I’ll kill you!” Seeing him in no mood to talk, Michael grabbed the collar of Oliver’s shirt and threatened him.

“When did you become so spineless? It’s just a woman; is it worth getting so angry about!” Oliver seemed to have no fear of Michael’s threats. “I promise she won’t die!”

Did his words mean he had already sent someone to ambush the man on the other side of the plane? Michael, of course, knew Oliver’s character and how he conducted business.

Having been in the underworld for so many years, expecting Oliver to treat the man he was hunting with integrity was impossible, especially since he was known for ruthlessness.

Michael knew exactly what kind of things Oliver could do!

“You can’t touch him until he hands over the antidote!”

Michael sighed, released Oliver, and their equally handsome faces stared at each other—one cold and dark, the other wickedly lazy. Standing in the hotel’s lounge, they became an eye-catching sight.

After a while, Michael spoke again, “There are too many strange drugs on the market. Not every doctor can detect them all!”

So, no matter what the doctors found, he had to get the antidote; otherwise, he couldn’t rest easy!

Upon hearing that, Oliver looked at him and said, “Seeing that you’ve become so infatuated after being single for so many years, I’ll reluctantly agree not to touch him for now, but…”

The rest of his words disappeared into a cloud of cigar smoke. Oliver’s cold and dark handsome face hardened, like ice in the cold winter, cold and piercing to the bone!

“I’ll have my people search for the antidote on my turf, too!” Michael caught the cigar that Oliver threw to him, but immediately threw it back. “I don’t smoke when I’m annoyed!”

“Didn’t you use to smoke when you were annoyed? How come you suddenly changed?”

Oliver lit another cigar for himself while asking. “What, have your old habits suddenly been tamed?”

“I just suddenly realized that these things aren’t as good to smoke as I thought!” Michael laughed lightly as he looked at him, unconsciously crossing his arms over his chest. “You still haven’t found your son’s mother?”

Oliver didn’t answer, just continued smoking one cigar after another, as if he wanted to finish them all in one breath.

Finally, the Thompson family’s formidable leader was choked by his own cigar.

“Looking at you like this, I guess this woman is determined to leave you and abandon her baby this time, right?”

Seeing Oliver like this, Michael couldn’t help but taunt him without any sympathy.

“Maybe I really am a pervert!” Oliver glared at him and lit another cigar. “Maybe I just couldn’t stand that a woman had abandoned me and couldn’t bear to see your woman clinging to you. What should I do?!”

Seeing them so in love, he did feel a bit unbalanced!

“It’s okay; you won’t be able to outdo me if I decide to be a pervert!”

Michael gave him a cold stare and walked back into the room, not forgetting to mock him, “Who just said they haven’t had sex for a long time? It seems that becoming a pervert is caused by a lack of sex, so I’m still not as perverted as you are right now!”
