“No!”
Ivy said decisively, without a hint of hesitation, as it wasn’t the truth. “I’ve told you, the child’s father is already dead!”
After speaking, Ivy took a deep breath and pulled Michael’s hand away from strangling Zach’s neck.
“Zach, you better not spout nonsense here. You know damn well whether the child is yours or not!”
When they were together, they barely held hands and only kissed each other on the cheek. Now he suddenly claimed the child was his. She knew exactly what he meant!
“Ivy, the child needs a father, and I’m undoubtedly the most suitable one!” Zach showed no fear of Ivy’s anger and looked at her with a half-smile, as if confident. “You’re raising a child on your own, so your chances of remarrying are slim, and although I’ve had a failed marriage, I’m still the child’s father!”
It was evident that Michael had some feelings for her. If Zach didn’t act quickly, the outcome was uncertain. Fortunately, Ivy had a child. How could a wealthy family like Michael’s allow him to marry a woman with an illegitimate child?
“Are you saying that since I am unmarried with a child and you are divorced, we match and won’t judge each other?”
Upon hearing Zach’s words, Ivy looked at him with amusement as a familiar chill swept over her. Six years ago, he had looked at her like that, thinking she was tainted and breaking up with her. Now that he was also divorced, was it time to pursue true love?
Wasn’t he afraid of hurting Yuri Sanders?
“Don’t say that, Ivy. I love you!”
Zach tried to grab Ivy’s hand, but Michael blocked him, his dark face making it clear that Zach had no right to touch her.
Zach knew that Michael was a wolf. If they fought fair and square, or with underhanded tactics, or with charm, Zach couldn’t compete. So he could only see who was the most despicable!
Ivy was his first love. When he found out about her past, he had been repulsed. She had been touched by a stranger before he even had a chance. He had chosen to abandon her rather than deal with his own feelings of pity and concern for his own reputation and dignity.
But by the time he regretted his decision, she had disappeared from his world.
He had thought their feelings weren’t that deep, and he would soon forget her once another woman took her place. As for first love? That was only meant to accompany one’s youth!
That’s why he had accepted Yuri Sanders’s pursuit of him. He hadn’t intended to marry her, but they slept together by accident, and it was her first time. He should have been responsible, but the truth was that after Ivy left him, all women looked the same to him. Maybe being with someone who was devoted to him would make him happy!
So he married Yuri Sanders half a year after Ivy disappeared!
He never expected that the marriage he thought was his destination would turn out to be a grave!
The more they were together, the more differences became apparent. Ivy was straightforward and sincere, Yuri Sanders was willful and selfish. With no foundation of love between them, their patience wore thin in their five-and-a-half-year marriage.
And just then, Ivy reappeared with her child, undoubtedly giving him a chance to redeem himself!
How could he pass up such a golden opportunity?
“Love me?!” Ivy’s eyes filled with sarcasm, and her voice rose higher. “After being married to someone else for five years, rolling around in bed sheets with her, you come to tell me you love me? Zach, how many times in your life can you afford to regret?”
For this brief moment, time seemed to stand still in the airport, with people coming and going. Plenty of people had already noticed the commotion. As long as Michael was around, there would never be a quiet moment.
Ivy picked up the suitcase that Michael had thrown on the ground and tried to leave. She didn’t like being the subject of others’ laughter.
“Ivy, no matter what, you shouldn’t at least give me a chance to make amends, for the sake of the child!”
Zach turned around and tried to grab Ivy’s suitcase, but Michael was one step ahead. “I’ll take you home first, we’ll discuss other matters later!”
Michael had noticed the restless crowd, some of them even taking pictures with their phones. While he didn’t mind being in the news, he knew Ivy detested it, having learned that at the party.
“I will go home myself. Too many people are watching!”
Ivy was embarrassed to be stared at by more and more people, and the next moment, she wanted to escape!
Before she could flee, Michael’s phone rang. After a glance at the caller, he furrowed his brow, not knowing what the person said. Then he spoke gently, “Your mommy is with me now. You guys go home first, we’ll be there soon!”
“Is it Bianca’s call?”
Without asking, Ivy knew it was her daughter who called. She had used his phone before to make calls since her own phone was broken and couldn’t get through, so it was not unusual for her daughter to call his phone.
“Yeah, your nanny couldn’t persuade her, so they came to pick you up at the airport. I told them to go home first!” While speaking, Michael glanced at the crowd, as well as the entertainment reporters blocking the exit.
Ivy understood immediately. But when she looked at those reporters, she felt they looked familiar.
Where had she seen them before?
Nevermind, she stopped thinking about it and hurried to get in Michael’s car.
Seeing Michael leave, Zach only took a few steps before being stopped by the approaching reporters. Just as he was about to evade them, an idea suddenly sprang to his mind.
This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
If he made headlines with Michael, would his newly established company’s value increase?
If everyone knew that Bianca was his child, would it make any difference whether Ivy admitted it or not because Michael couldn’t afford to lose face?
With this thought in mind, Zach suddenly felt warmth toward the encroaching gossip reporters!
When Michael sent Ivy to Roosa Garden, Cathy was already waiting there with Bianca in her arms!
As soon as the little girl saw Ivy, she ran into her arms and kissed her wildly, “Mommy, why are you only back now? I missed you to death!”
“I missed you to death too!” Ivy kissed the little girl’s cheek without hesitation, the warm reality of her daughter’s embrace melting away the fear and anxiety of the day’s life-or-death experiences.
Leaning against Michael’s Maybach, Michael watched the way the mother and daughter expressed their deep affection. His heart inexplicably ached, knowing that the child was hers with another man. Why did the scene look so harmonious in his eyes?
It was as if a voice in his mind kept reminding him that they were his wife and child!
