The Evolution of Genius: Every Night, I Get Smarter!-Chapter 99: Party on Coelus
Chapter 99: Party on Coelus
After proposing the idea to Oliv, I suggested, "Well, if you want to, we can contact Veronica. Ask her if she wants to go."
Oliv agreed, saying, "Ok. Let’s do that."
Instead of going for Veronica immediately, I took out my phone and called her.
After a short while, Veronica answered, "Yes, Max?"
I responded, "Yeah, it’s me. I have a quick question for you."
"What is it?"
I asked, "Do you want to join us for a party at Coelus?"
Veronica hesitated, questioning, "To Coelus? To that weird place?"
I assured her that it was safe, and she relented. "Well, if you’re saying that it’s safe, then why not?" frёewebηovel.cѳm
I added, "Oh. And don’t shy away. You know, that’s just their culture. You should dress attractively."
As I mentioned it, even Oliv gave me a strange look.
Veronica responded, "Sure, I guess..."
After that, I concluded, "OK, we will be there to pick you up at your house in 4 hours."
Later, with Oliv and my parents, we decided to eat out, saving us the trouble of preparing anything.
When we returned, I delved into some quick, basic research on chemical interactions that could prove useful for superconductors.
As I finished, Oliv and I prepared to pick up Veronica.
I wore simple jeans and a black T-shirt, but Oliv wore a colorful knee-length skirt and a T-shirt that showed off her midriff. She also put her hair up in a bun.
After getting ready, I said to Oliv, "The taxi is already waiting for us, so let’s get going."
We entered the wardrobe and made our way to Germany, where we hopped into the taxi.
During the ride, I mentioned to Oliv, "In a month, I will need to go pick up my Nobel Prize."
At that moment, the taxi driver, a man in his forties, turned his head.
Oliv responded, "I know. What do you think, I don’t check any news? You tried to hide it from me or something?"
The taxi driver finally chimed in, "Oh! Is it Professor Sullivan? I didn’t realize. Congratulations on the Nobel Prize. Well deserved."
I asked, "Is Mr. Interested in Physics?"
He replied, "Ehh... just as a hobby. I like to read about stuff."
I nodded and said, "I see."
Shortly after we arrived at Veronica’s house. Stepping out of the taxi, I said to the driver. "Could you wait for us? We will be back in a minute."
He answered leisurely, "No problem. Man."
Ringing the doorbell, Veronica opened the door within seconds, looking truly gorgeous.
Her choice of clothing was undeniably attractive – a strapless blouse and nice jeans shorts.
Oliv was quicker than me, exclaiming, "Veronica!" and hugging her.
I followed suit, and then said, "Come on, girls. Let’s not make the taxi man wait."
Veronica grabbed her purse, and we took off.
Heading back to the suburbs, the taxi driver must have been a bit puzzled as to why we were dressed for a party, only to end up next to an abandoned house.
I tipped the man and then he left.
We got into the compartment under the stairs and reappeared on Coelus.
As we emerged in the Nexus Tower, Veronica asked, "Okay, so... where are we going exactly?"
I replied, "You will see."
We entered a bubble and slowly cruised to the University of Excellence.
I had seen the surroundings a couple of times, but Oliv and Veronica were still completely astounded.
Finally, we reached the university and stopped at the floor where I usually exited. As promised, Milena was already waiting there, but she wasn’t alone.
There was another guy with her, probably her friend, wearing the exact clothes she had mentioned to me – tight black shorts and a tight black shirt.
Now, I’m not going to say anything, but back on Earth, he would probably be ridiculed or at least people would think a thing or two about him.
Not that I care.
As they saw us, Milena seemed surprised, and the guy looked disappointed with Milena’s choice of friend. I think.
As we approached, he suggested that we quickly go shopping to get me some normal clothes.
Milena added, "The shirt isn’t that bad, but the pants need to go, or people will look at you weirdly."
I chuckled and remarked that even after so many technological advancements, society is still a bit weird.
Milena laughed it off, and I said, "Oh, by the way, this is my girlfriend, Oliv." I introduced Oliv to them.
And then, I said, "This my frie..." I hesitated when introducing Veronica. Unsure what to call her.
I looked at Veronica, and she smoothly stated, "I’m Max’s girlfriend, Veronica," with a smile.
I just went, "Ehmm..."
Milena and the other guy laughed simultaneously, reassuring me not to worry and that relationships like these are common here.
Then, she introduced the guy as Robert, her boyfriend.
Oh.... so she had a boyfriend... didn’t seem like it.
After introducing ourselves, we entered the bubble again and descended just one level before reaching a vast and expansive area.
It couldn’t even be called a tower; it was more like many towers blended together to create a colossal conglomerate of shopping malls.
We went inside, and the atmosphere was bustling with activity on each floor. I couldn’t help but wonder how many people lived there, so I asked Milena, "How many people live in this city?"
She answered, "Oh, there are almost a billion people living in the capital of Coelus."
Oliv raised her eyebrows and asked, "Where do they all live?"
Robert chimed in, "Most live at the bottom in the cheapest compartments. It gets very crowded, but the system is working quite well, so it isn’t that bad..."
After reaching the shop named Lengyel, Robert suggested, "Here should be fine."
We entered the store, and with the girls, we headed straight to the section with various pants.
The material wasn’t quite like jeans; it was slightly different, not as rigid. The choices were limited, and all the clothes were tight-fitting.
Despite my reservations, I decided to comply.
Oliv picked up a pair of slightly longer shorts, and I tried them on.
When I emerged from the changing room, Veronica chuckled, but then said, "No! I mean, it’s not that bad. It shows off the muscles. You are quite lean, so it really doesn’t look that bad."
Milena, on the other hand, exclaimed, "Uhhh! Now that’s it. This looks amazing."
Oliv looked at her with a confused expression.
I laughed it off and just accepted my fate. In the end, Milena bought the shorts for me.
We left the store, and Milena said, "Alright! It’s time to go to the party."
We descended one more level, and I noticed that the quality of the buildings seemed to diminish—they looked a bit cheaper, at least in comparison to the upper levels.
As we reached a somewhat outstanding building, around 50 floors instead of the usual 200, with only one place for all the bubbles to stop at the very bottom, we spoke with a man who seemed to control everything there.
The man asked Milena, "Which class?" and she responded, "Number 2."
The man clicked something on his screen, and the bubble soared up until maybe the 20th floor.
Puzzled, I asked, "What was that?"
Milena explained, "There are three classes of parties here. The costs are different, and the music, as well as the atmosphere, is totally different for each. I always pick number 2."
As we entered the floor, my ears were immediately assaulted by some hard acid techno, bass-boosted to the extreme.
It was a sensory onslaught, but not entirely unpleasant.
Milena shouted to us, "Follow me!" Her voice barely reached us over the pulsating beats.
Lights were blinking everywhere, and the people inside were jumping and yelling, each person danced alone. It was as if everyone was deliberately avoiding being close to one another.
We made our way to a circular bar and settled into square chairs around it. Strangely, the music around the bar seemed to dampen, like there was a barier around it.
Milena confidently told the bartender, "Give me 5 Chronobits!"
The bartender nodded and swiftly began preparing the drinks. In no time, he presented us with vibrant green beverages.
Curious, I took a sip, only to find it surprisingly sweet with an indescribable kick—a fizzy sensation that left me stuned. I turned to Milena, puzzled. "What is this? It’s not alcohol."
She looked at me incredulously, "Alcohol? You still drink that where you’re from? No, this has Cardiolin. It gives similar effects, but the only side effect is a slight flu-like feeling for about 15 minutes in the morning."
After drinking a Chronobit each, we took off and started dancing.
Milena had earlier explained the unspoken rule—better not to touch anyone. Despite the lack of physical contact, we were having a blast. We jumped and danced maniacally.
But at that very moment, something out of the ordinary happened—something so strange that it would bring together even those who had been enemies before.
I felt my skin vibrate, the air got colder, and then for a second the music... I couldn’t hear it.
All the people on the floor now stopped dancing, confused, but... but I couldn’t hear them.
Once more, the music could be heard. Then, the sound went away again.
