The Greatest Mecha-Chapter 83: Three Halves of a Whole
Chapter 83: Three Halves of a Whole
Alto looked to his side to see Amy smiling back at him, she carried half of the books while he carried the remaining half. He looked to his other side to see Kram facing forward, he did not seem happy, it made him wonder why he brought them back together but maybe he wanted to make fun of him in front of Amy but Kram kept quiet.
"So Kram how have you been?" Alto asked in a friendly tone.
Kram replied gruffly. "Don’t talk to me twerp, I’m not your friend so don’t act like it."
Alto looked extremely confused, Amy pulled him into another conversation to prevent the mood from dampening.
Kram was left to his thought, he thought back to the day before when he had met Alto for the first time in three years. Why had he reunited her with Amy if he always loved Amy knowing fully well that Alto was his love rival. Kram had been many things, abrasive, impulsive, proud but he was not a fool. For three years he had watched Amy lose the light in her eyes to the extent that she forgot about Alto, he had thought he would be able to bring a bit of light in her eye but it seemed that was not something that was possible in his arsenal of skills.
The day he saw the light return back to her eyes he knew she must have seen Alto, when he first met Alto he wanted to make fun of him like always but after seeing Alto’s eyes he changed his mind. He could see the loneliness in Alto’s eyes and also a story, he could tell that Alto had overcome a certain hardship and grown stronger from it.
Kram had never shared a favourable relationship with Alto, Amy always seemed to strain from him. Perhaps by some poor insight of his he had pictured that apart they were miserable and together they were something much different. It was a mere experiment on his part, to see if Alto was a heart that could keep Amy happy and him entertained but it seemed he was wrong as always.
"What?" Amy’s raised voice caused Kram to eavesdrop on their conversation which was hardly any challenge since they were right next to him and were clearly not speaking in a hushed tone. "How, why the hell did he do that to you?"
Kram for the first time in minutes interrupted their conversation, "What?" He asked gruffly.
Amy started by criticising him for not listening to their discussion the whole time, then she proceeded to explain the duel between Alto and General Duncan’s cadet.
Kram laughed at the story, "So you’re the guy I’ve been hearing so much about. To think you would have the balls to diss a general, you really have grown a lot." He continued to laugh.
Amy and Alto frowned at Kram.
As the three of them walked down the hallway, the personnel and officers that went to their stations took a moment or two to look at them and be intrigued by their kinship. It was a rare sight to see anyone with such a sunny mood before the long day’s work.
"Kram, it’s not funny." Amy gave him an angry glare.
Kram simply laughed and said. "Of course it is, his butt is so gonna get beaten to a pulp. Serves you right twerp."
Amy wanted to hit Kram but Alto stepped forward and spoke. "Actually it’s sort of my problem to bear."
"So what are you gonna do about it? There has to be a loophole right?" Amy pitched in.
Alto smiled and said. "Not really, I’ll just have to show up and get my ass beat. The best I can do is to call the med bay beforehand."
Kram laughed again.
They soon arrived at Alto’s department and both Kram and Amy looked up to the fabled room that had eluded them for so long.
Amy’s eyes burst open. "Mech engineering department, why is it called that and not the mech designing department or something?" It was a wonder why she never had for so long when it actually had another name.
Alto acted surprised and said. "Oh, right. I think this place was one of the old departments for the mech engineers but they abandoned it back in the day. The mech designers reshaped the place but still left the sign the same for some reason."
Kram chuckled. "Only someone with a really weird sense of humour would keep it the same."
Alto smiled as he remembered the professor. "Do you guys want to come in, say hello?"
As much as that sounded relaxing Amy had to decline. "Sorry, Al but we’ve got to get to training. The commanding officer already pardoned us for our fiasco so we’d rather not piss him off again."
Alto pressed his wrist comm to the scanner causing the door to fragment into billions of shards followed by the materialisation of the portal. Seeing this Kram gasped, "Holy shit, you have a portal door. This is so rad, all we’ve got is an automated door that creaks a lot."
Amy bumped Kram’s shoulder and Alto smiled. "What’d I say?" Kram argued.
Amy turned to Alto and said with a smile. "Well he’s not wrong, it does creak sometimes. So we’ll meet, lunch time. Same place." As she said this she handed the books back to Alto and squeezed his shoulder tight. "It’s good to have you back, prodigy mech designer Alto."
Alto chuckled nervously, "Not a designer yet, and I’m not a prodigy."
Kram snorted. "You got that right you little prick."
Alto looked over to him and said with a smile. "Yes Kram I also missed your greasy, bold and adorable self."
Hearing this Kram frowned and turned to leave. "Fuck off twerp."
Amy looked at Alto one last time as her eyes dilated, she then pulled her eyes away to look at Kram who was walking away in a pompous manner. "Now that Alto’s not here who’s gonna stop me from beating your sorry ass Kram?"
Kram did not know whether to be frightened that Amy had set her sights back on him or to be surprised that she finally called his name in a long time. "You won’t catch me, I am one with the wind." Saying that he sprinted forward, his mind thinking if it was really the right decision to bring Alto back into their lives.
Amy chased after Kram, waving a goodbye at Alto who slightly smiled.
Alto was happy to see that Kram despite his troublesome self still had his goofiness and Amy was more beautiful than ever. He watched them leave with Amy almost catching up to Kram as they ran through a group of officers. A hand gripped Alto causing him to whip his head back, he saw Eleven next to him. "Mr Eleven, you’re up early."
"I was never asleep to begin with." He said in a cold voice before changing the topic. "Friends of yours?"
Alto was not sure he could call Kram his friend but, "We go way back."
Eleven nodded gently and handed Alto a piece of paper, "I think you dropped it."
Alto instantly identified this to be the piece of paper within the professor’s books, he greedily snatched it from Eleven’s hand. "Thank you, I would be fucked if I lost this." Alto paused as his eyes caught sight of stains of red underneath Eleven’s hand. "Is that blood?"
"I cut myself." Eleven said coldly before walking into the mech engineering department. fгeewebnovёl.com
Alto was left behind to wonder why Eleven had grown cold and distant once more but he was more grateful that he had not lost the note.
