Chapter 271 - Ending The Bloodwing

[Owen's POV]

The cold night breeze swept across the rooftop, but my focus wasn't on the wind or the sprawling city beneath me. My eyes were fixed on the glowing system screen hovering in front of me.

I narrowed my eyes.

"Song, huh?" I muttered. "So she likes to play siren games... I'll make sure she sings her final note."

The reality was, I didn't have time to rest. Not while he—Willam—was still out there plotting. If he wanted to destroy every remnant of my mother, he'd find no peace, no easy path. But even so, I needed to become far stronger than I am now—because the Alpha Tyrant wasn't going to show mercy when he arrived.

One week. That's all I had before that beast invades the human world. And if I wasn't ready, cities would fall, people would die—and worst of all, the bastard who calls himself my father might twist it all into his own narrative.

I cracked my knuckles and pulled the mask down over my face. I didn't need the world to know it was me—not yet. Not until I had the strength to make my name shake the very foundations of this world.

> Target: Bloodwing Matron

Mission: Terminate.

Objective: Test evolving beast instincts against A-rank airborne enemy.

With a leap, I shot across the rooftops like a shadow in motion, channeling the instincts of the Beast King inside me. My eyes glowed faintly—Beast Vision active—and I tracked her silhouette in the sky above the distant Industrial Complex Tower.

There she was. Twisting mid-air with those wide, obsidian wings shimmering under the moonlight. Her voice—it was already spreading through the air like a lullaby dipped in poison. I clenched my jaw as I felt a pressure on my chest, like she was pulling at my soul.

"Tch... you'll need more than that to charm me."

Her form was beautiful, tragic almost—pale and haunting, with long, dark hair trailing like ink in the wind. She looked more like a forgotten goddess than a monster. But I knew better. The corpses piled up beneath that tower told the truth.

As I landed on the steel frame of a crane above the tower, she noticed me. Her lips curled into a sharp smile.

Bloodwing Matron: "Another fool enchanted by my voice? You boys are all the same... dying to be drained in my embrace."

I took a deep breath, let the beast instincts settle into my muscles.

Owen: "Wrong. I came to silence your lullaby."

She flapped her wings, sending a shockwave through the air. Her next song hit me like a storm—visions flooded my mind: memories I didn't want to see. My mom crying. Yvette walking away after the divorce. Willam's smug face.

"ENOUGH!"

With a roar, I activated Beast Shift: Hunter Form.

Claws burst from my fingertips, eyes fully glowing golden, veins surging with energy. I blitzed through the air, avoiding her screeching wave of bloodthirsty sound. Mid-air, I summoned my blade—Fang of the Abyss—and swung upward in a flash of crimson.

The Matron screeched in genuine pain as I tore across her wing.

Bloodwing Matron: "You DARE wound me?!"

Owen: "You're lucky that's all I did."

She retaliated, screeching and diving, claws aimed at my heart. But I welcomed it. I sidestepped mid-air using Beast Step, grabbed her wing, and spun behind her like a ghost.

"Goodnight," I whispered.

Then—slash. A clean, sharp cut across her back, laced with my aura. She spiraled downward, crashing onto the rooftop of the tower, feathers scattering like ash.

I landed a few meters away, panting. The glow in my eyes slowly dimmed.

> Target Eliminated.

Experience Gained.

Loot Acquired: Bloodwing Feather x3, Matron's Siren Core, Beast Essence Shard

I stepped forward, retrieving the glowing core from her remains. This would help me evolve further... maybe even push me past my current limits.

"Alpha Tyrant," I murmured, looking toward the distant sky. "You better be ready. Because I'm coming for you."

And Willam...?

You won't even see it coming.

________________________________________

As the glowing system screen faded from my sight, I turned away from the industrial complex tower. The night was quiet now. No more haunting songs, no more shadows fluttering through the air.

I was about to leap across the next rooftop when I saw them.

Three kids. Maybe seven or eight years old, huddled near a barrel fire in an alley below. Torn clothes. Dirty faces. One of them was hugging a younger sibling, trying to warm them with his body. My enhanced hearing picked up the faint growls of their stomachs. The kind of sound only true hunger makes.

I sighed.

"Even the King of Beasts has a heart," I muttered, shaking my head.

I dropped down from the rooftop, landing softly a few steps away from them. The kids jerked in fear, eyes wide—clearly not expecting someone in a dark coat and a beastly mask to show up like that.

One of them, the eldest, stepped in front of the others and raised a broken piece of pipe. Brave little guy.

"Stay back!" he shouted. "We don't got anything! Just go!"

I raised my hands slowly and removed my mask.

"Relax," I said softly. "I'm not here to hurt you. I just... saw you kids were hungry."

They blinked. Still cautious.

The little girl peeked from behind her brother. "You're... not a villain?"

I gave a faint smile. "I hunt monsters. Not kids."

Without another word, I reached into my cloak and pulled out a small pouch. Inside were some emergency food capsules from the system—a side effect of the Beast Trials. Nutrient-rich, warm when activated. I tossed one to each of them.

"Eat slow," I warned. "They hit your stomach like a full meal."

The kids stared, wide-eyed. The older boy hesitated, then gave one to his sister first before taking a cautious bite. His eyes lit up.

"This is... warm stew?" he whispered. "How...?"

"Magic," I said with a wink.

They devoured the food. For a while, I just stood there, arms crossed, watching them eat like they hadn't had anything decent in days.

"You kids got a place to stay?" I asked quietly.

The boy shook his head. "We... used to live in the orphanage. It got attacked by something... dark. People said it was cursed. So now... it's just us."

I clenched my jaw.

Another cursed place. Another revenant or nightcreature infestation.

I turned, placing the mask back on my face.

"Stay here tonight," I said. "Tomorrow, I'll find you a safer place. Somewhere warm. You have my word."

The youngest girl looked up at me. "Are you a hero... Mister?"

I paused, then gave a faint smirk.

"Not a hero. But I protect my territory."

As I leapt back into the night, I whispered under my breath:

"And this city... is mine now."
