Chapter 149: 148. Enemy’s Move (3)

The five days of intense training were a huge task for every person in the Eldarf manor. Lyall and Enora would train with the six boys in the morning, and in the afternoon the training would turn into sparring with the Elves and the Dwarves, in the evening after dinner and before sleep, they would gather in my study for strategy lessons.

I was basically going for those five days without any sleep as I had to juggle a lot of work on my own including the training and studying for the kids to learn the new warfare tactics. I taught them a few of the tactics that I had learnt from my past life experiences and told them about various possibilities that they could encounter while on the battlefield.

"Don’t, at any cost, think of turning your back on your enemy or have any sort of mercy on them. Even if they are on their last breath make sure that they are dead before you move ahead and I’m telling you again, don’t have mercy on any enemy."

I didn’t teach them mercy as even if camaraderie was an important aspect for them needless mercy could turn into a fatal mistake. I would rather they turn ruthless than those fools who save their own enemies.

"But, if our enemy isn’t armed and we attack them then doesn’t it violate the rule of knights?" Ralph asked.

"On a battlefield, there’s no room for rules or chivalry, Ralph. You either survive or you die." I clarified, "Now, tell me, how you’d feel if you face an enemy on a battlefield who isn’t holding a sword and you let him go and then that same person kills your friend right after you had mercy on him?"

Ralph frowned slightly but he nodded, "I understand, Master."

"Good. Keep in mind you all, on a battlefield, what’s important is your and your comrades’ survival. If your foolish benevolence can cost any other person’s life then you’re not a comrade, you’re a traitor."

"And I haven’t given you the training of an assassin to stab your friends in the back, if I hear of it in future then don’t be surprised if I come for your blood myself."

The boys seemed a bit intimidated after my warning and I continued my lesson.

For the five days and nights, everyone had pushed themselves to their limits and on the sixth day, I faced all the six boys who were supposed to set out to their respective battlefields. Eric and Rune were placed on the frontlines while Luke, Ralph and Derrick were stationed in different places. Fortunately, Drac was the closest to Eric and Rune so, if any problem arose then he could rush on the spot to help them.

"This is your final day here and I’ve already lectured you enough so, I don’t really have anything to say to you as of now," I said as I looked at the kids who were now like polished weapons standing in front of me.

I felt slightly emotional as I looked at their faces, these kids and I had gotten acquainted not long ago and now I had to see them off to the battlefield.

"Remember that you really will be on your own for this mission so, I will be expecting you to not die on me and return safely. The war could screw itself, I’ll take care of it from the other side so, fight only to survive. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Master!" Their answers resounded loudly and in one voice making me sigh.

"And one last thing that... I will be waiting for you all to return safely." I smiled.

The six boys stood stiffly in front of me without any answer making me tilt my head slightly as I was expecting at least some sort of reaction. Regardless, we didn’t have time, their families must have been waiting so, I had to send them back for their last day before the war.

"Dismissed," I commanded.

The boys relaxed their shoulders before Eric stepped ahead and I was taken aback as he threw his arms around me. The rest of the four boys followed suit and Drac stood at a distance looking hesitant.

I stretched my hand to him gesturing him to join in and he stepped ahead before he joined in the group hug.

The kids had worked really hard for the past five days and had sustained many injuries and bruises because of the harsh training so, I guess I could give them a small parting gift.

My mana flowed out of me encompassing the six boys, I felt Drac reacting immediately as his eyes widened but he soon closed his eyes and relaxed letting my spell do its work.

The six stepped back and Drac smiled at me, "Thank you, Master."

"Thank you, Master."

The boys smiled and thanked me before they started leaving and Eric and Rune lingered behind as I was going to teleport them to the Fairisles mansion myself.

I looked out of the window as the three instructors who stood in the yard waiting for the four kids. After a while the boys came out with the elves and dwarves clinging to them.

"Come see us again!"

"Don’t die on us, Big Brothers!"

"Big brother Ralph, we will wait to hear your stories!"

"Big brother Derrick, Big brother Luke please make sure not the hesitate while attacking!"

"Big brother Drac, we will wait for you, come back soon!"

I could hear the kids shouting as the boys walked away with the instructors leading them away from the Eldarf mansion. They would board their carriages from the Ryujin mansion as this small hill where Eldarf was was enchanted with the similar protection magic like my liar.

Once those four were off on their paths I turned to Eric and Rune who were still in the room.

"Are you two ready to go?" I asked them and they turned to me.

"Yes,"

We walked out of the mansion and after crossing the barrier, we teleported to the Fairisles Mansion where Grandfather, along with Lady Elise, Dad, Silas and Viscount Ainsworth were waiting in the library with the stuff that I had requested.

"Rune," Dad breathed with a smile.

Rune walked over and stood beside Dad while Eric went over to his mother who held his hands with a relieved smile, I looked at Grandfather and Silas who held serious expressions.

I hadn’t discussed about my future plans regarding this war with them but if they knew what I was planning they might flip all over again.

"You’re not planning on participating in this war, right?" Silas asked and I smiled.

"Not directly."

"So, you are."

"I have tonnes of work here, Archmage." I clarified making him still give me a suspicious look.

"If there is anything that I could do from my side at the court?" Grandfather asked and I shook my head.

"There’s nothing that I want any of you to do except for what I’ve already told you to. From hence on, it’s only up to them to fight on their own." I said gesturing at Eric and Rune.

"This war has been going on for years but its end is close now." I announced before picking up the documents that I had asked for. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

"Eric, Rune, I hope you remember about the people you have to look out for on the battlefield."

"Yes," The two nodded.

"Are you talking about those Monsters?" Grandfather asked and I gave him a curt nod.

Just like a hero in a book, there were a few warriors in Denril who had kept the war going without their kingdom facing any losses.

Still, despite my saying that those people were heroes, they were in fact a special and mysterious battalion that would be dispatched to the battlefield when it was time to turn the tables. These ruthless soldiers were so strong that they were regarded as "Monsters" or "Bloodhounds" by the soldiers of Sestia.

"Will they be all right facing those soldiers?" Dad asked and even Elise seemed worried as she looked in between me and her son.

"It is an undeniable truth that the mere presence of this battalion on the battlefield would inevitably lead to the defeat of the enemy." I stated making the two open their mouths but I raised my hand stopping them.

"But," I spoke up, "That’s my problem."

"So, you are going to the battlefield." Silas snapped and I sighed.

"Didn’t I say earlier that I had other work, Archmage?"

"But you just said that you will-"

"Archmage, we will get back to my participation in this war later, as for now, it’s important to deal with their situation." I said gesturing at Eric and Rune.

"I have already told them what to do if they ever come across that battalion so, please don’t worry about it." I assured the worried parents.

But I knew whatever I said it might not ease their worries so, I added.

"That battalion will be taken care of by my own dispatched team."

"Your team?" Silas cocked a brow at me.

"Yes,"

"Who?" Eric asked and I looked at him and Rune.

"Lyall, Enora and a few more of them."

"Mr Lyall and Mrs Jones?" Rune gasped.

"You’re still not trained enough to fight a battalion like that so, it’s better to leave it up to your trainers." I said.

The two exchanged a glance before Eric said, "We will return and train more."

"There won’t be a need," I said, "The real life battle will teach you things that your training might not. But still, if you feel the need to then the kids will love to either get beaten up by you or beat you up."

The meeting went on for around and hour more before I dismissed everyone and Silas and Grandfather were the only ones remaining apart from me.

"What are you planning this time?" Silas asked.

"Are you going to fight in this war as well?" Grandfather asked.

"If need be," I admitted.

Silas released a sharp sigh before he looked at me waiting for me to explain.

"I and I guess even you two won’t have to worry about the boys being on battlefield." I said.

"It’s not only Eric and Rune that are stationed on the frontlines, there’s one more."
