The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 310: Convincing (4)
Chapter 310: Convincing (4)
"So, are you dating a princess now? Are you going to be a king? How does this all work?" Michael asked as he was still confused as to what Rafael’s new title would be.
"She’s the daughter of the leader which makes her like a princess, so Rafael will be a prince," Christian answered. "I’m a bit jealous of how you went from commander to prince in one day."
"So, what does that mean for us? Do we continue to follow King Tobias or King Rafael? We swore to King Tobias, but we’re more loyal to Rafael," said Michael, stretching the back of his head.
"Can you please stop talking?" Rafael asked with his eyes still closed as he was bearing the pain of being stitched up. He asked for peace and quiet while he was being looked at, but Christian, Logan and Michael seemed to have missed his order.
"You should show a little bit of interest in whether you’ll be a king or not. I didn’t think you would change your title of a knight so soon. I thought you would be a commander for more years. Since there isn’t another Callahan to take your place, which one of us would you suggest to the king to be the next commander?" Christian asked, hoping it was not him. It was too much work. "What do you think, Logan?"
"She could have killed me. When she was looking pissed off at me, she could have killed me. Just like she killed that man wanting to attack Beatrice," Logan said, shocked by how his life was once in danger without him knowing. "I could have died if I wasn’t paying attention to her."
All the times Annalise looked at him like she wanted to kill him felt more dangerous now compared to when he found the dead man in the shop. Annalise might have been able to kill him if she wanted to. Why were they more interested in Rafael becoming a prince when he could have died?
"Would have been fun to watch," Christian replied. Knowing that Annalise could have killed Logan for annoying her made watching him compete with Rafael even more entertaining. Had he known she had some background in fighting, he would have pushed Logan to attack her more.
"That is not funny! Rafael, did she ever tell you what she wanted to do with me? Was she going to kill me, but changed her mind?" Logan asked, looking around at everyone to see if they shared his concern.
"I do recall her overhearing her talking about digging a large hole to push something into," Christian lied to add to Logan’s fears. "Might have been for a body."
Rafael opened his eyes, glaring at the three of them for being noisy at a time when he needed silence so he could think.
They were interested in him becoming a prince when he was trying to think of how to get on Annalise’s father’s good side or her mother’s should he meet her soon. Then there was the unofficial truce. There were more important things to talk about yet they were so focused on princes and Logan dying.
"It is done. Try to lay still for a while and limit moving around so it doesn’t tear," the doctor said. He had to move on to treat some of the guards wounded and appeared to be affected by poison.
"Thank you. Is there nothing better for the three of you to do? Have you finished searching for guns like I asked you to?" Rafael asked, shifting the conversation to a more important topic. He continued to lay like the doctor said so he wouldn’t need to call for the doctor again.
"We did. We only found one more in Martin’s quarters. We do have to deal with the problem of his guards getting rowdy and wanting to go back out to fight since he’s dead. A new captain has been appointed and I can see he is feeling the pressure to go back out for another fight. They want us to join them," Christian said, laughing as he found it funny.
They were practically slaughtered by the leader alone and then at a greater disadvantage when arrows were fired into the air.
"If Rafael had been killed, I would be out there trying to avenge him without the help of the guards. With all the ruckus they are causing, if they so desperately want a fight, why are they waiting for us to join them? Go on your own," Michael said, sneakily moving to claim one of the apples from the basket meant for Rafael.
"Tell them that anyone who steps foot from here with armour and a weapon will be beheaded," Rafael gave an order.
They were lucky to have a sit down with a leader. The deal was to stay off their land, so Rafael would do just that. Martin died from his own stupidity. There was nothing to avenge. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
"I will pass on your message," Michael said after grabbing an apple. He left the tent to gather some knights to help him warn the guards.
"This seems to be the wrong time for anyone to piss you off. I hope you don’t mind me asking this. How long have you known who Annalie was? I mean as knights, we would have been forced by our vow to take her to the palace. It isn’t like you to not follow the rules," said Christian.
"I knew today when she rode out to me," Rafael answered.
"Seeing that you two peacefully rode back on one horse, you are fine with all of this? Have you lost your mind, Rafael? Is there a wound on your head we don’t know about?" Christian asked, leaning forward to inspect Rafael’s head. Rafael’s hair was in the way of him checking and all he could think about now was cutting the hair short. "Do you know what could have happened had you stayed angry?"
"I don’t care," Rafael answered, closing his eyes. Annalise had a clean start with being honest with him. He didn’t care to drag this out to hurt her or get something out of her trying to please him.
"You could have her chasing after you. Doing any and everything to get back into your good graces. I thought you were better than this. I thought you knew how to work your way with women, but I was wrong and it is crushing me. I am going to have to place you at the same level as Logan when it comes to women," said Christian.
"Are you trying to say he should have remained angry with her so she would do whatever he wanted like sex to be with him again?" Logan asked, feeling like where this conversation was going.
"No, but that is not a bad point. I meant- Shit! Get down!" Christian yelled, pushing Logan to the side to avoid the helmet being thrown by Rafael. "That could have hit my head if I wasn’t looking."
Logan stayed an arm’s length away from Christian in case something else would be thrown. "Was that helmet meant for him or the two of us because I was only repeating what he said. Are you really angry with us or is it because Annalise is not here with you? Let me just add in also that I am happy my crush on her has ended. I’ve had enough crazy fathers chasing me. I had to jump from a roof to avoid one in the past."
"If the two of you do not leave now, I will personally behead you. I need to rest before going back to meet with Annalise. Find something else to do to entertain yourself. Someone else to bother," Rafael said, hoping they would finally listen to him.
With the knights around, he never had a reason to think of wanting children.
"I will stay watch in case your princess lover comes to see you. It is not safe for her to be here with the guards still angry. Hurry up and get better so the knights can stop worrying about you," Christian said as he walked out of the tent with Logan following him.
Rafael placed his right arm to cover his face. He hoped getting stabbed was the worst of meeting Annalise’s parents. The truce was important, but at the same time, he wanted to get that taken care of quickly to spend time with Annalise to learn more about her. There was no better place to get to know more of Annalise’s secrets than here.
