The Overnight Chosen Wife: darling, kiss me deeper-Chapter 587: Too careless
Chapter 587: Too careless
"What are you doing here?" Xiehan was flabbergasted when he saw Luna. He had not gone home the previous night and had thought that Lanni would be worried despite his reassurance to check on him, but Luna was definitely not one of the people he was expecting to see. Besides, "Don’t you have a meeting to attend?"
"Oh, I do. My meeting with Feng Ji International’s CEO, which should have started five minutes ago. Do you happen to know where he is?" She taunted.
He couldn’t figure out what she was up to, but he made a guess. He led her into his office and let her sit on the chair opposite his, before asking his secretary to bring her a cup of warm milk.
He sat with his elbows on the desk, as his hands frantically rolled a pen. "You know that Xingyu will kill me if he knows you are here, in the middle of a storm that’s waiting to happen." He reprimanded her.
"Oh, don’t worry about him. No one would be mad about a sister-in-law helping her sister’s husband." She sipped her milk. "Lanni is worried about you. This is why I’m doing this."
"What do you have in mind?" He relented and asked. Aside from the fact that she was right, she was highly skilled and might just be the pair of hands the company needed right now before the thief got their hands on more information.
"A virus." She took a USB flash drive out from her pocket with a smile. He couldn’t figure out what she had in mind so he gave her a chance to explain herself.
Instead, she made herself comfortable. "I need a computer. One with super speed. I also need access to all the security cameras."
"On it." He let her use his computer and since he already had access to the security cameras, the latter was a simple task. She asked for half an hour so he left her on her own and met up with the manager of the elaked project. There was no way to retrieve the project from LX Corporation. The only way to save themselves now was to come up with a better one that would surpass the leaked one but at the same time, not seem to be a duplicate.
The meeting went smoothly and as soon as it was done, he rushed back to his office. Luna was still buried behind his computer as her fingers flew across the keys.
"Found anything?" He asked gently.
"Actually, I did. Do you want to take a look?" She offered. He looked over eagerly. The virus was meant to detect irregularities and it had caught one.
"The camera in your office malfunctioned three nights ago at midnight. The feed it gave was a repeat of what had happened the night before." She played both feeds and even she was impressed by the brains behind it. In both cases, the office was still with nothing happening out of the ordinary. After all, Xiehan wasn’t usually at his office at midnight. If it wasn’t for the sheet of paper that was pushed towards the edge of the desk by a gust of wind, she would not have noticed a thing.
"It only took five minutes for the thief to break into your office. That’s fast, even for a professional. It can only mean one thing."
"They are familiar with my office." He finished her train of thought. It narrowed down the suspects greatly as there were only a few employees who accessed his office enough times to be familiar with it.
"It turns out, the computer was not hacked. If it was, the hacker would have retrieved the files on their own. Needing someone to steal the information means they had to get it on a flash drive or something."
She stretched her limbs.
"Thank you." He was relieved. He was too busy to notice anything himself, and she had just saved him a ton of trouble.
"If you want to thank me, you know what to do."
"Treat your sister well?" He guessed, earning a jab.
"No, silly. Help me order fried chicken and don’t tell Xingyu about it." She grabbed the chance to rush for her craving, which her husband would definitely not let her have much of.

Meanwhile, Lanni marveled at the neighborhood that she had not had time to walk around a lot. The place was peaceful and quiet, perfect for a walk with her niece.
The little girl skipped happily, holding her aunt’s hand. When she saw an ice cream stand nearby, she tugged at Lanni’s sleeve.
"Aunty," She called out, looking up at her with adorable eyes as she pointed at the stand.
"You want ice cream? Let’s get some." She was glad that she had carried her purse with her. She had wanted to buy them snacks at the store nearby.
When they got to the ice cream stand, Xiaomu was practically drooling as she eyed the different flavors.
Lanni was aware that she was too young to have a lot of cold food so she asked for an extra small cone.
"What flavor would you like, Mumu?" She asked.
"What’s a flavor?" She asked innocently, not pulling her eyes away from the colorful pictures of different ice cream types.
"Well, which one do you like?" She pointed at the picture that Xiaomu was drooling at, then at the display shelf. The girl excitedly pointed at the chocolate one, probably because she loved chocolate.
"Your daughter is so cute." The ice cream vendor couldn’t help giving them a discount. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
Lanni didn’t correct him and smiled at the compliment, thanking him for the discount.
Lanni took one for herself too and took out her purse to pay and turned to give the ice cream to Xiaomu, just in time to catch her slipping away.
"Mumu!" Her heart skipped a beat. "Come back."
A blaring horn from a bike made her entire being freeze. She dropped everything in her hands and leapt onto the road out of instinct, grabbing Xiaomu and jumping to the other side just as the the bike breezed past.
Her heart lurched in her throat as she hugged her niece tightly.
"Aunty?" The girl was confused, as she didn’t know what was happening.
"It’s okay." Lanni patted her chest in fright. She had only let go of Xiaomu’s hand for half a minute. How could she have been so careless?
The rider was obviously way past the speed limit and probably out of his mind. How he had not gotten pulled over for overspeeding was one thing, but there was no way Xiaomu would survive it if he ran over her.
She straightened up and realized that her legs were too wobbly. She ended up sliding back into a sitting position.
The ice cream vendor was beside her in a flash to help. "Ma’am, are you okay? Crap. I should call an ambulance!"
"Ambulance?" She wanted to tell him that she was alright but when the pain in her abdomen became apparent now that she was no longer trembling in shock, she was alarmed.
"Aunty, blood!" When Xiaomu screeched and pointed at her lower body, she knew that it was over.
