The Overnight Chosen Wife: darling, kiss me deeper-Chapter 608: Not his type
Chapter 608: Not his type
The drive back home felt like a million miles. He knew that he wanted to be nowhere near Han Xichen’s house right now but even then, he couldn’t help stopping after a few miles and turning to glance back. Maybe he should have tried to persuade her a little more. Maybe then she would have listened to him.
However, he knew her better than that. She rarely changed her mind once she made a decision and pushing it might only make her ignore him for weeks. He didn’t want that to happen. Of course, that was only because she was one of his most special friends and he didn’t want to be at loggerheads with her.
There wasn’t anything else to it—though he didn’t know why he felt the need to clarify that to himself.
He parked the car and got out for a moment, letting the cold breeze calm his thoughts. He didn’t know what hit him a moment ago but he had suddenly lost his cool and even... frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
He got back into his car to avoid thinking about it. His parents must be waiting for his return. He had just started working for a company aside from Jiang Corporation for the first time in his life and he didn’t need to tell them anything—they would definitely wait for him even if he arrived at dawn.
Sure enough, he saw that the lights in the villa were still on when he arrived.
A figure bumped into him as soon as he opened the door.
"Urgh!" Xiaomu growled, pulling away from him. "What’s wrong with you?" She spat out angrily.
He wiped imaginary dust off his clothes. "No. What is wrong with you?"
"You are the one who wasn’t watching where you are going." She berated him, smoothing down her hair. "I was here living my best life and then you happened. Do you always have to ruin everything?"
"I literally entered the house. I didn’t even say a word to you before you growled at me like an angry kitten! Why don’t you go where you were going since I’m out of your way?" He stepped aside to evade her.
"What’s the point? My mood is ruined!" She countered.
"Guys, It’s too late to start a fight, don’t you think?" Luna called out from the mezzanine, having heard their argument and left the study to see what was going on. She looked down at her son and daughter who seemed to enjoy having fights for breakfast, lunch and dinner. "I’m trying to create a n application and I need some peace for just a minute."
Xiaomu sulked and crossed her arms. "He bumped into me."
Luna walked down the stairs and placed a hand on her daughter’s shoulder just as the two got ready to start screaming at each other again. "Sweetie, give your brother a break, will you? Work must have been hard for him."
She then hugged Linhou and kissed his cheek.
"Hey, mother."
"How was your day, honey?" She kissed the other cheek while still holding him in her arms.
"I missed you too much. And you have gotten more beautiful."
Before Luna could respond, Xingyu came down the stairs too, having heard the noises of their fight.
"You should spend more time finding a girlfriend than clinging to my wife and trying to charm her." He warned as he stood beside his daughter.
Luna laughed at her husband’s jealous antics. "Xingyu, he is your son."
The man glared at Linhou’s hand that was on Luna’s shoulder. "That doesn’t mean he shouldn’t keep his hands off my wife. He is already too old to want his mom to pacify him for every tiny difficulty. Have you become stable enough to move out yet?" He asked his son.
Linhou knew his father was joking, so he played along. "Well, bad news, father. You still have to see my face for a while longer."
"I’ll make you some food for lunch tomorrow. You will find it on the kitchen counter." Luna promised, rubbing her son’s cheek lovingly.
"Thanks mother." He kissed her forehead despite his father’s glare.
"I can’t stand him." Xiaomu rolled her eyes as Linhou walked past her to go to his room, but that didn’t stop him from ruffling her hair as if flaunting his height. He knew it annoyed her but he couldn’t stop flaunting the fact that he was half a foot taller than her despite being her twin.
Once he got to his room, he routinely gave Yanyan a video call. She was away from the city for her studies and they would talk for a while every night, but tonight, she didn’t seem to be in the mood. She gave him one word responses before finally deciding to end it.
"Are you okay? You don’t look happy tonight." He asked, noticing when she moved and he saw her clearly for a heartbeat, that her eyes were swollen.
"I’m just sleepy. Goodnight." She ended the call abruptly. That was strange.
He caught sight of movement from his open door and turned just in time to see Xiaomu.
"Mumu, do you know..."
He was about to ask her if she knew what was happening with Yanyan but she dismissed him. "I am not my sister’s keeper."
She must have overheard their conversation.
"You make it sound like you hate Yanyan when you clearly love her." He teased her, and he was more convinced that she knew.
"I just hate you, okay? Leave me alone." Xiaomu growled and continued to walk to her room.
He rushed out and grabbed her hand.
"What’s your problem with me anyway? Do you want to talk about it?"
She flung his hand away and entered her room which was the next one after his, closing the door behind her with more force than necessary.
"Okay." He shrugged, taking that as a no.
He went back to his room to get ready for the movie and turned his phone on just in time for Shuihan to call.
"Are you a ghost? We suddenly couldn’t reach you." Shuihan asked when the call connected.
"I had to..." He didn’t want to explain that he had needed to scale the wall to Han Xichen’s villa and failed to achieve what he had aimed for. "I’ll be right there." He promised.
He then grabbed a jacket and his car keys and headed out, pausing after a few steps when he felt eyes on him. That was strange.
He shrugged. Xiaomu didn’t want to see him so it was definitely not her. He ignored the feeling and met Shuihan, who had changed their meeting location from the mall to a club.
He spotted the young man as soon as he walked in. He was sitting on his own and downing drinks like his life depended on them.
He sat down next to his cousin. "You didn’t bring your girlfriend."
"She isn’t my girlfriend." Shuihan downed another beer and sighed.
"She was yesterday." Linhou pushed.
"Yeah."
It was an odd reaction, paired with the beers and change of location, so he asked, "Hey, is everything okay?"
Linhou rested an elbow on the bar to finally face his cousin.
"She really wasn’t the kind of girl I would go for. I was just a coward before and couldn’t face the truth." He shrugged, took another swig and laughed. "I couldn’t be unfair to her anymore. I don’t love her so I told her the truth."
The girl Shuihan was talking about had liked him since they were teenagers. Linhou knew just who Shuihan actually pined for but he pretended not to know.
"Sucks to be her."
"I know." He looked at the door as if waiting for someone else to walk in before asking, "You didn’t talk Yue into coming?"
Linhou wanted something strong to drink after the kind of night he had had. It had only been one hour but it was taking a toll on him. "I swear, there’s something wrong with the women around me. Xiaomu acts like I destroyed her universe and Yue said no. She wanted to come. I could see it in her eyes."
Shuihan burst into laughter before it suddenly made sense. Did Linhou... "You like her, don’t you?" He boldly asked.
Linhou choked on the beer he had just sipped. "Excuse me?"
He then burst out laughing. "No. Don’t be ridiculous. Yue is like a sister to me. That’s all I ever see her as and besides, she’s not even my type."
That was all the confirmation Shuihan needed and he laughed along.
"Uh huh. Of course she isn’t."
