The Princess And The Lord-Chapter 1312 A Fool
Chapter 1312 A Fool
"Where should we go?" Ethan was panting after running for a long time, not to mention his body was suffering from many injuries and they didn't have any Health potions to heal themselves.
After the explosion Ethan and Lory must find the way out at the same time avoid the guards, so, they wander aimlessly and have no idea where they are now. In addition, there are no windows around to check where they are, it is like they falling into a big maze.
"Just keep walking, we'll find out later" Lory answered calmly, she didn't want her imagination to run wild, besides their condition wasn't that bad, just a few scratches and scars on their faces and hands, nothing serious.
"Hey, do you think that guy died after being hit by a bomb that big?" Ethan shivered remembering the face of the big bad guy with the plasma gun as his weapon.
"That Dragxtarn?" Lory chuckled softly, "Nah, he won't die from that, that much of an explosion isn't enough to kill Dragxtarn, but if it did then we don't have nothing to worry about..." Lory didn't sound worried.
Ethan's face paled and his voice rose in panic. "Wait, you really think that guy's still alive? That can't be true, I mean the bomb explodes right on his feet!" Ethan refused to believe it.
Lory found Ethan's panicked face funny, so she couldn't help but tease him a little, "Of course, if he could be killed so easily, they wouldn't be so feared by so many Gifted people." Immediately, the color drained from Ethan's face, making his already pale face even paler. "Then... what happens if that guy finds us..." his voice trembles in fright.
Lory raised her thumb and slowly pointed down, at that moment Ethan's legs instantly became wobbly with fear, he almost fall in his knee if his hands didn't immediately grab the wall. Lory watched him and guffawed, "Don't worry buddy, we won't die from this!" Lory smacked Ethan's shoulder.

Ethan's face eased up a bit "Ha - ha...so you are joking, you almost scare me there...."
Alas, Lory shook her head and then lightly said "Nope!" she grinned and then continued walking.
Ethan's eyes widened "What do you mean? Are we going to be dead or not?" he chassed Lory.
Lory ignored him, she was actually half-joking with Ethan. She wasn't lying that it would be dangerous if Dragxtarn found them. Lory knew it would be hard for her to fight the Dragxtarn and protect Ethan at the same time, especially without her powers but she was also confident that they wouldn't die here, no way! Too many people were dead and hurt in order to keep her alive therefore Lory wouldn't treat her life lightly.
After a while, they arrived at the double glass doors that led to the other side of the building, but the doors were locked.
Ethan shook the door a few times but it didn't budge. "Damn is lock, what should we do now" Ethan kicked the door in frustration.
Lory pointed her gun at the glass door and then shot at the door, instantly the glass door shattered.
Lory lowers her weapon and turns to Ethan "After you"
Ethan blushed in embarrassment "Sorry, I forgot we still have a gun...well, I mean I lost my gun and I...I'm under a lot of stress, you know?" he tried to explain but it only made things worse.
"Of course..." Lory nods in understanding which only makes Ethan more embarrassed.
Ethan cleared his throat awkwardly, "Um, let's go!" The door led to a large white hallway that led them way up, the place is designed with white floors and white walls that adorn only with bright white lights streaming through the walls and ceiling, making the place feel clean but cold.
"I hate places like this" Lory muttered.
"Oh yeah?" This was the first time Ethan heard Lory complain.
"Yeah, this place reminds me of a Zombie apocalypse movie" Lory frowned as she remembered the movie Fred had played for her. She wasn't sure if it was the movie that scared her or if it was Fred's laughter during the entire movie.
Ethan was amused, "It can't be worse than the Dark Age war right?" for Ethan, that time was the darkest time for humanity, he didn't even understand how he could survive.
"Yeah, one apocalypse is enough," Lory said softly.
Ethan realized he didn't know anything about Lory except her name and she was looking for her at her family's request, "You from Xiya country right?"
Lory was confused about why Ethan thought that way, but then she realized she still used Luo Ri Yi's appearance.
Lory was too tired to explain so she answered vaguely "You can say like that..." Of course, what Lory meant was the world of Cultivators which has cultural similarities to the country of Xiya. Thinking back it felt like a long time ago even though it's not even a year since she returned to this world.
Lory brushes him off, "Old enough"
Ethan pursed his lips. "You're not the sharing type, are you?!" Ethan was not happy that Lory didn't give a clear answer, he then asked further, "How old are you?"
Lory brushes him off, "Old enough"
Ethan pursed his lips. "You're not the sharing type, are you?!" "Nope!" Lory gives a perfunctory answer.
Ethan felt a little annoyed. Lory didn't want to open up to him after they went through the past together, he thought they had become friends, but maybe it was just him.
The truth is, Ethan wasn't wrong, for Lory he was an important asset that had to be saved at all costs, or the least to say, Ethan was Lilly's brother and Hugo's son, that's all.
Ethan was a little disappointed but he couldn't say anything, he looked ahead and sighed but suddenly his steps stopped.
"Wait a minute, I know this place!"
"Oh?" Lory welcomed the good news, "Where are we"
"If I'm not wrong, Elena's office is supposed to be up there" Ethan's eyes lit up.
"So, you visited this place before you were captured" Lory looked at him curiously.
Ethan felt uncomfortable with Lory's gaze, "It wasn't like that... At that time I thought she was coerced to work here"
"Oh, why do you think that?" Lory asked.
Ethan hesitated for a moment then said "She said they managed to get Amanda to work for them, that's why Lena...I mean Elena agreed to work for them so she could watch her sister, she said she couldn't leave her sister all alone in this place..." Ethan explained.
"And you trust her?" Lory teased.
"Yes, I did sneak into this place after she called me to come, but turns out Elena was already waiting for me with a man, the man said his name was Carlo Cawthorne and he offered me to work for him but I refused, I couldn't trust Luxemborough people! Long story short, Elena injected me with something that made me pass out and when I woke up I was already here..." Ethan looked crestfallen, he might never have expected Elena would betray him like that.
"How long have you been here?" Lory ask.
"Two or three days, I think... I don't know what she gave me, but other than when she came to coax me to work with her, my mind always felt hazy, I think because I'm a 'Creator they were afraid of what I might do when I'm alone..." Ethan's scoffed in disdain.
How did you create the Mana Deterrent?" Lory wondered where he got that horrifying idea from.
"Not me, but...Elena?" Her last words hit him like a bat, he just realized how fool he was. Ethan brush his hair "Elena gave me an old scroll about an ancient device to control..." Lory gasped in disbelief "Elena gave it to you?"
"Yes, she asked me if it was possible to create such a device today, if we could, we could make the world safer" Ethan spoke in a self-deprecating tone.
Lory was confused, "Safer how?"
"You know after the Dark Ages War ended, most of what was left were, corrupt governments and vile criminals because most of the good and brave people died fighting for us even King Marcus and the princess of Lorient also...." Ethan swallowed the last sentence before smoothly continuing the conversation "These criminals terrorized common folk and mana controllers weren't enough to hold them back, just like handcuffs on criminals wouldn't stop them from escaping"
Lory more or less understood the reason, "And you thought the device would help, but then what you changed your mind, why?"
"At first I was intrigued by the idea and the truth convinced me to start researching the object in the old scroll, but after I made a prototype it struck me how bad this thing is... I realized that if this discovery fell into the wrong hands the results would be catastrophic, like you said one apocalypse is enough...so I stopped"
"Let me guess, Elena disagrees" Lory raised her brows.
"Yeah, she didn't understand why I stopped midway before we perfected the device. We had a big fight over it," Ethan said with a helpless expression.
Lory guessed what the Janitor lady meant about 'Crossing the line and too dangerous'
"Then how did you get hurt?" Lory probed.
"Elena, tell me if he will forget about the matter about the Mana Repellent if I get him the important materials at the Quiet Mountain Peak." "And you just go and got it for her," Lory mocked him.
Meanwhile, Ethan scratched his head in shame.
"What material? Lory raises her chin.
"Zerenium" Ethan replied.
Lory step halted, then stared at Ethan closely "There's Zerenium at the quiet Mountain peak!" Lory was surprised cause she didn't see any Zerenium in that place and the reason why They blew up the whole mountain.
It seems like they not only want to cover up the existence of Maren and kill them, but they also want to cover up the existence of Zerenium because if other countries find out about Zerenium, there will be a big chaos that will result in them not being able to get the Zerenium for themselves.
"Yup, and who would have thought there was a strange creature like Maren guarding the place" He quivered when he recalled seeing Maren up close.
Luckily I've survived" Ethan smiled broadly.
But Lory interrupted "Not by luck though" Ethan looked at Lory in confusion. Lory was amused by his reaction "Trust me, your knowledge about Mana Deterrent is the only thing that kept you alive but if you keep refusing to work with them they will eventually kill you and perhaps your family too..."
Ethan was horrified by Lory's words but Lory ignored him again, "Hey, where is Elena's office?" Lory saw a large number three displayed on the wall, indicating that they were on the third floor, no wonder she was tired, it turned out that she had climbed three floors.
'I'm gonna eat five cakes after this'
"You want to check her office?" Ethan was surprised that Lory wanted to check Elena's office, weren't they in a hurry?
"Duh, are you kidding me, after everything you said about her, you bet I'd check her office..." Lory rolls her eyes.
Ethan shows an apologetic smile, he looks around and then points "I think it should be...right there!"
Lory followed Ethan until he reached a door locked with a keycard lock system.
"Damn, it has to use a keycard!" Ethan grumbled.
"Let me see..." Lory pried the keycard with a knife and then fiddled with the cable, "It should be this - this - and this one..." a few minutes later the sound of the lock shifting was heard, Lory then pushed the door and it opened!
"Still got it!" Lory puffed her chest proudly, after that Lory opened the door for Ethan, "After you" This was the second time, Ethan scrunched up his face he didn't know how many times he had shown his pathetic side to Lory, and he wondered what he could do to salvage his image in front of this girl.
