The Princess And The Lord-Chapter 1341: Betrayal
Chapter 1341: Betrayal
Somewhere in the most high-end area of Ember City, a luxurious mansion stands splendidly behind a high fence guarded by tight security, a young woman relaxes comfortably in one of the bedrooms. She was busy fixing her blonde hair while having a video call with her friend.
"I know, it’s okay, I don’t think it’s too expensive" She sounded impatient.
Her friend in the video chat was flabbergasted "Are you sure? This jewelry is worth two million rom!"
The woman replied arrogantly "I know, just send it today! do I look like someone who can’t afford to spend two million rom?"
Such arrogance came out of the mouth of a woman who earned her entire income by selling her body to an old man. However, she held her tongue because she needed the money.
The female friend in the video chat pretended to laugh it off, "Of course no, baby! Okay, I’ll send the goods today, oh including the jewelry from the previous order, that means you have to pay five million rom, okay?!" she subtly remind her.
The woman rolled her eyes impatiently "I get it! I’ll tell my boyfriend to send the money now!"
"Boyfriend? You mean sugar daddy" her friend teased.
She snorted "What’s the difference?"
"Nothiiing," she jested.
Suddenly she heard a commotion outside her room that seems coming from downstairs, "Hey, I think I heard something, I’ll call you back!"
"Don’t forget about the—" Sadly she ended the video call before her friend finished her words.
She left the room then peeked down from the railing, then he saw the servants leaving hastily with frightened faces, not long after, she heard a man shouting at the top of his lungs.
"What do you mean my savings in the bank have been frozen?"
The woman’s steps momentarily halted before she went down the stairs and then walked to her boyfriend’s study room. The closer she got the louder her boyfriend’s screams became.
She carefully opened the door without knocking and then heard her boyfriend’s panicked voice, "My savings overseas were also seized, how is that possible? Under whose orders... what do you mean the Minister of Finance... eh, Fredhardt Knoxville...he - he gave the direct orders?...oh," his voice gradually weakened.
She could feel something very bad was happening, not daring to disturb him, she closed the door carefully then walked to the sofa in the corner, and sat quietly while waiting anxiously.
The man didn’t even glance at the woman as he continued talking to the man on the other end of the phone with a defeated tone "Then what is your advice? Should I call a lawyer...oh, okay" he hung up the phone and then turned quiet for a long moment.
The woman couldn’t wait any longer, "Darling... are you okay?" her voice came out stiff and prim.
The man raised his hand dismissively without looking at her, which made the woman even more apprehensive.
Suddenly, the door slammed open then two handsome men and one woman appeared who judging from her facial features looked like someone from Xiya country. The three people entered the room with firm steps, all of them exuded a domineering aura that indicated they were not ordinary people.
"Who-who are you, could you enter my house without permission!" the man jumped up from his chair, then pointed at the strange people who barged into his Manor and began calling the security, "GUARD - GUARD! where’s the guard?"
"Don’t bother calling them" Clift showed the Noxcra identity badge and in an instant, the man clamped his mouth and color drained from his face.
"Now you know who we are, so sit down and listen!" Clift’s words hint with warning and the man obediently returned to his seat.
The young woman found the whole situation ridiculous, even if they were Noxcra, how could they barge into the Mayor’s Mansion without a government letter? However, what baffled her the most was the strange woman who came in carrying a bag of cookies and eating them casually despite the tense atmosphere around them.
Lory had no time to buy cheesecake so for now she must satisfied with a bag of choco chips only. Since she was ’self-proclaimed’ as a sensible princess she accepted it with the guarantee Clift will buy her a cheesecake later.
"Dar - Darling who are these people?" the woman could feel there was something very wrong with this situation, why did her man look so terrified?
It was Lory’s turn to be shocked, "You’re his girlfriend? I thought you were his daughter?"
Lory didn’t mean to humiliate her, she was just surprised because Lory knew the man was in his late sixties but the woman in front of her looked to be in her early twenties so naturally Lory thought that woman was the old man’s daughter.
However, the woman thought Lory mocked her thus she yelled at Lory "Who is this insolent woman, don’t you know who I am!"
"No.." Lory answered frankly then continued munching on her cookies with a flat expression.
Lory’s indifferent attitude made her even more upset. she felt that Lory was looking down on her, hence she couldn’t control herself anymore. The next thing that happened, her pent-up anger exploded uncontrollably, "You! How dare you act like this in my house, I don’t care who you are, you have no right! This is our private property and you all barged into our house without permission, I will sue you, just you wait I will—"
"SHUT UP!" the man shouted at his young girlfriend.
The woman was jumping on her feet from being shouted for the first time. She felt wronged, "Why did you scream at me, It was their fault...hiks,"
If the old man was frustrated with his girlfriend’s stupid action, Doesn’t she hear they are Noxcra agents? Noxcra had special permission from the king that exempted them from several major rules as long as it was for the benefit of the King and the kingdom.
He actually knew the reason why they were here, so instead of being respectful so that their punishment would be lighter, this woman continued to offend them.
"I’m sorry...I just want you to calm down" He wearily said
However, the young woman is still unhappy "But they—"
"ENOUGH!" Clift shouted silenced the couple and the room became a silent drop pin where no one made the sound except the sound of Lory chewing the cakes.
"You know why I came here not the mayor?!" Clift’s eyes did not warm up anything when he looked straight into the eyes of the nervous old man.
"Simon J. Weathon, aged 68, born in Herriond. You are appointed as Mayor of the Ember City twice, that shows how much people trust you but now you betray them ..."
Simon, the Mayor of the Ember City clenched his arms on the armrest as cold sweat drenched her back, still he braced himself to speak, "I...I made a mistake, I don’t mean to..."
"Tell me who are you working for?" Clift wasn’t interested in hearing his excuse, he was only interested in who persuaded him to betray his kingdom.
The old man looked hopeless "I can’t ... I will die" he begged.
"You don’t think I couldn’t kill you?" Clift sarcastically said.
The old man swallowed hard, "I...I don’t mean to get this far ... I just want to make more money, to take care of my family"
"You earned more than most people and that’s enough to support your family, aren’t you just greedy "Jay mocked the old man’s lame excuse.
The old man smiled bitterly, "But...But it is still far less than what an official in other countries earned, besides, I deserve it! After everything I’ve sacrificed for this country, I deserve to be paid more. Why should I be satisfied given so little when the King and the Archnights live in abundance in the luxurious palaces? It’s not fair!"
Jay and Clift Face eyes flashed, they never thought some people would think so little about their king. Clift snapped then jumped across the table and grabbed the man’s neck. He smashes the back of the man’s head against the wall.
"Not fair? What my King has sacrificed, do you even know... the suffering the Lucient family has had to go through just to keep a maggot like you alive!"
The back of the old man’s head throbbed so hard that he almost fainted but the lack of air kept him awake, he waved his limbs wildly as he tried to release himself from Clift’s grip but the grip was like steel that stuck to his neck.
"Darling!" The woman covers her mouth and screams.
"Uhk, h...elp" Simon pleaded while flailing Clift’s hand desperately but to no avail.
The man’s face slowly turned blue as the oxygen in his chest decreased by the second, still, there was no shred of pity on Clift’s face, only disgust and hatred.
Normally Clift is not an emotional person on the contrary compared with the other he is the most rational, responsible, and patient, however, when it comes to Lucas and Lory he can get very emotional, and when he becomes like that there are only a few people who can stop him.
Lory sighed, she then finished her cookie and crumpled up the empty cookie wrapper, after that, she softly said, "Let him go, Clift."
Hearing Lory’s voice, Clift automatically released his grip. The old man’s body slit to the floor gasping and coughing nonstop for a long time while the woman watched everything in horror.
Lory patted the rest of the cookies from her hand and then walked to the pathetic old man on the floor, "You haven’t answered the question, who are you working for?"
The old man did not dare to play anymore, he was sure these people would not hesitate to kill him if he did not cooperate, "It - it was Ingram Terrence himself who contacted me, he just asked me to sign a permit for a new Guild after that he transfer me the money..."
"Leaders of the underground Guild," Jay informs Lory.
"But you and the underground Guild still need a permit from the World Guild association, how did he pass that?" Lory throws another question.
"I don’t know but they have it, and for all I know it was legit," Simon answered.
Clift and Jay were stunned not expecting the World Guild association would help the Underground Guild, Lory contemplated for a second then turned to Clift "We need to check it first" She will not make an assumption without concrete proof.
"Then what about the mine? How did they know there was a Zerenium mine in the Mirror Lake river, did you tell them? Tell me why the Underground Guild is interested in the Zerenium mines in Harland territory. Don’t tell me because they were greedy, because even on their best day, they wouldn’t have the guts to challenge the Lucient family’s authority."
Simon averts his eyes from Lory, "I...I don’t know"
Lory could see the old man was hiding something, Lory squinted her eyes "Is it Luxemborough or S.A.I.N.T. organization? let me guess, it’s both of them"
"You don’t understand, they will kill me and my family if I tell you anything" he cried.
"You should have thought that before betraying your kingdom," Lory replied coldly while pulling the chair and sat down casually.
Regret and despair were plastered on his face. He doesn’t want to admit it nevertheless, she was right. He was stupid thinking he could get away with it.
Lory leaned her head on her fist as she waited unhurriedly for the old man to speak. Jay and Clift are surprised at how calm and firm she is, she reminds them of King Marcus.
His lips were covered in sweat as he started to speak "I don’t know the detail, but..."
Suddenly a bullet shot straight toward Simon’s head, and everyone reflexively shouted in tune, "LORY!"
No matter how vigilant Lory was, she didn’t have time to summon a protective shield to stop the bullet but suddenly giant white wings emerged from her back and blocked the bullets from Simon.
The woman’s jaw dropped when she saw the white wings that somehow emerged from the woman’s back. Who would have thought she wanted to kill Simon? It seems the woman’s identity is not simple.
A remote coldness came into her purple eyes causing the woman to shiver down her spine at that moment Jay and Clift took this chance to strike down the woman. Clift twisted her arm behind her back and pushed her roughly to the floor, while Jay took the gun from the woman.
"AHK!" the woman screamed in pain as her nose hit the floor and bled.
Simon’s face went blank in shock, but not because his girlfriend wanted to kill him but because of the majestic white wings that appeared before his eyes.
Those wings, he had seen them in photos in the news. He had heard rumors and stories about them even though he had never seen them in person.
His lips quiver as he tries to push the words out of his mouth, "P...princess. ..Lorient"
The wings spread gracefully before his eyes covered his vision with an unblemished white color, later on, His eyes fell on the woman’s eyes that gradually changed from black to a dazzling purple color.
Right at that moment all questions in his heart were confirmed, however, the next words came from that woman broke his heart.
"You have disappointed me..." Lory voice was bitter and sad.
The disappointment hidden behind those purple eyes stabbed his heart like a knife then tears rolled down from the corner of his wrinkled eyes to his cheeks.
Just like most people in Harland, he also admires King Marcus and his family. After the Dark Age war ended he was also eager to support the new King to build their country again but what went wrong...?
"I’m...sorry" he lowered his head and sobbed.
